San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't considering re-signing WR Randy Moss after learning that WR Michael Crabtree (Achilles') tore his Achilles' Wednesday, May 22. Harbaugh said the team is intrigued with the depth of young receivers they have on roster, and they are looking forward to them stepping up to the task. WR
A.J. Jenkins, the team's 2012 first-round pick, will have a chance to make an impact in his second year.
Jenkins has spent the offseason adding muscle and working with QB Colin Kaepernick.

San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree suffered a torn Achilles' tendon during organized team activities Tuesday, May 21, and will undergo what could be season-ending surgery.
Huddle Up: Crabtree's injury wipes out what was expected to be a promising fantasy season; it also has a ripple effect throughout the 49ers, starting with a ding to Colin Kaepernick's fantasy value. A.J. Jenkins and rookie Quinton Patton are the most likely candidates to replace him in the 49ers' lineup, as Mario Manningham is still coming back from a torn ACL and Kyle Williams is more of a return man than a receiver. Don't rule out the 49ers looking for a veteran option to complement Anquan Boldin; Brandon Lloyd is a distinct possibility.

Taking a very early look at the 49ers 53-man roster, CSNbayarea.com beat writer Matt Maiocco projected fourth-round selection Quinton Patton among the wide receiver quot;locks." Also in that category, Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, but not Mario Mannigham and
A.J. Jenkins. Several draft touts talked up the Patton before the draft, but the talented Louisiana Tech product slipped into the middle rounds. So why the early hype in terms of sticking with the team? Because head coach Jim Harbaugh already tagged Patton as "my favorite player" after the rookie flew out to the 49ers headquarters on his own dime before mini-camp because he was excited to begin his pro career.
FANTASY ANALYSIS: Considering Patton's potential, it would be hardly

Huddle Up: With Michael Crabtree and newcomer Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree the unquestioned starters, Manningham was the favorite to win the No. 3 job, but that will definitely be in question if his knee doesn't cooperate, opening the door for Kyle Williams, A.J. The 49ers selected WR Quinton Patton near the end of the 4th round. Most draftniks had the Louisiana Tech product as a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Patton goes just 6'0, 204 pounds with 4.5 speed, but he draws high marks for his hands and route running. That makes him sound ready to contribute right away. But in San Fran, he'll be battling 2012 1st-round pick A.J. Jenkins for the #3 WR job. Patton won't be worth considering in redraft leagues.

Huddle Up: The Niners spent a first-round pick on A.J. Jenkins last year, but aside from Michael Crabtree they have little in the way of long-term solutions at wide receiver. They also have an abundance of picks this year and could package two or three to move up and grab a quality player in a draft class deep at wideout.

Huddle Up: The injury looked bad on the field Sunday, and the news was indeed bad Monday. Manningham was the Niners' second-leading receiver (41 catches for 449 yards and a TD) through Week 15 so look for his targets to be spread out among fellow wideouts Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss and TEs Delanie Walker and Vernon Davis (if he plays). San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree (ankle) missed his sixth consecutive practice Friday, Aug. 3. Crabtree is considered questionable for the team's preseason opener Aug. 10 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Huddle Up: The 2012 preseason is off to a frustrating start for Crabtree, who is entering his fourth season as a pro. His receptions and yards have increased in each of his three seasons, but during the offseason the Niners signed Mario Manningham and Randy Moss and drafted Illinois' A.J. Jenkins in the first round, so they're obviously looking for more production from the receiver slots. Crabtree has fallen behind early and might need to play a little catch-up in order to remain the team's No. 1 wideout.

Back at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2006, Davis ran a sub-4.4 forty, posted a 42-inch vertical jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 33 times as a prospect out of the University of Maryland.

San Francisco 49ers WR
A.J. Jenkins was inconsistent during organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp.
Jenkins needs to work on building up his upper-body strength in order to hold up against aggressive press cornerbacks at the pro level, according to sources.
Huddle Up: Jenkins already was drafted by a team that throws less than most and is firmly behind Michael Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Randy Moss in the pecking order on a good day. He has potential value in a dynasty league for future seasons but his rookie year looks like a complete non-factor so far.
