Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins flashed at rookie minicamp over the weekend. Per insider Nick Scurfield, Hopkins "caught seemingly everything thrown his way," and made "at least one highlight-reel one-handed grab on all three days of practice." HC Gary Kubiak wasn't shy about praising his team's new weapon. “He’s special,” Kubiak said. “Ball skills are extremely special. Very long; long arms. Big hands; you saw the catch he made out here today. He’s going to help us early, and we know that, and that’s why we brought him here.” We wouldn't read too much into rookie-camp performances -- guys are being hyped-up all over the internet right now. But this buzz confirms that Hopkins is ready to step right into Houston's

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has been impressed with what he's seen from first-round pick WR DeAndre Hopkins (Clemson). "He's special," Kubiak said Sunday. "Ball skills are extremely special. Very long; long arms. Big hands; you saw the catch he made out here today. He's going to help us early, and we know that, and that's why we brought him here."
Our View: We agree with Kubiak here. Hopkins reminds us of Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his body control and ability to make difficult catches seem routine. The team finally has a legitimate threat opposite superstar
Andre Johnson. We like him as a WR4 with upside in 2013. His current ADP is WR43 and he's coming off the board at the end of round nine.

DeAndre Hopkins HOU (1st RD) -
While Cordarrelle Patterson may have the best upside from a raw skills perspective in this years class, it is Deandre Hopkins that is No.1 on my board. In Hopkins you have the most polished receiver in this class and he should be a slam dunk, week one starter opposite Andre Johnson.
At worst case Hopkins will be a bye week starting option in his rookie year and at best case he’s probably a weekly WR3 play. By next year we should see his floor at WR3, and his upside could blossom as far as a WR1 in PPR leagues, if the injury bug jumps up and bits Johnson again.

Last season, he caught 82 passes for 1,405 yards and 18 TDs. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Better late than never. The Texans have finally pursued a first-round talent to be paired with

When it comes to rookies conventional wisdom no longer applies. With a few notable exceptions, most first-year players, particularly quarterbacks, were once thought to be multi-year projects, the Steve McNair approach – observe, learn and wait.
But in this day and age where instant gratification is constantly sought after, time isn’t of the essence. Several players picked in April are immediately pressed into competitive situations where often times they emerge as the go-to option, evident in the rapid ascension of guys like Robert Griffin III, Doug Martin and Josh Gordon, to name a few, last year. Because nuances from the college game are commonplace

This is not unexpected considering that Texans wide receiver DeVier Posey would be less than nine months removed from surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon by Week 1, but here it is. ESPN's Adam Schefter has been told by a league source that Posey will open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. That means he will miss at least the first six games on the schedule. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Posey was a third-round selection a year ago and caught six passes in 11 games as a rookie. If he was healthy right now, perhaps Houston would have a different view of its receiving corps heading into this draft, but a difference-making addition was needed either way. Now they have DeAndre Hopkins to go with Posey, Keshawn Martin, and Lestar

ESPN's Adam Schefter hears that Texans WR DeVier Posey is expected to open the season on the PUP list. That'd cost him the first 6 games of the year. No surprise there. Posey tore his Achilles in January. That's an injury that usually takes a full year to return from. Posey is unlikely to contribute much in 2013. It's at least part of the reason Houston grabbed WR DeAndre Hopkins with the 27th overall pick of the draft. Posey is off the fantasy radar for now. Long term, he has a chance to join Hopkins in the starting lineup when Andre Johnson hangs up the cleats.

The Texans finally got serious Thursday about finding a No. 2 wide receiver. Clemson wideout DeAndre Hopkins was the pick by Houston with the No. 27 pick. It's the first time that the Texans have selected a wide receiver before the third round since 2003. That year, they took
Andre Johnson third overall. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's an obviously overdue move. Hopkins doesn't have the eye-popping athleticism of some of the other WRs in this class, but he is a safe, solid choice. He is a fine route-runner with very dependable hands. Will he be a big-time producer in 2013? Probably not. Is he going to be more productive than Kevin Walter? I think so. Hopkins has a good shot at opening the season as a full-time starter across the field from Johnson.

The Texans selected Clemson WR DeAndre Hopkins with the 27th overall pick of the draft. They've finally invested in a WR to play alongside Andre Johnson. Hopkins is one of the more NFL-ready WRs in the class, making him a good fit for a Houston team built to win now. Hopkins isn't a burner, but he has good size (6'1, 214 pounds) and sticky hands. We like his long-term fantasy outlook, although he'll struggle for WR3 value in 2013. Houston will continue to be a run-first offense, and Johnson remains the clear-cut #1 WR.

Huddle Up: Johnson, who will be 32 when the season kicks off, looked to be running a career fade pattern after missing a combined 12 games over the the 2010 and 2011 seasons and recording 119 catches for 1,708 yards, but he nearly matched those totals in 2012 alone, hauling in 112 passes for a career-high 1,598 yards. He most certainly could use a more formidable running mate on the other side, but Johnson again figures to ranks among the top 10 fantasy wideouts this coming season barring an injury.

One of the earliest moves during Tuesday's wild day of roster movement around the NFL was one of the most obvious. The Texans let go of wide receiver Kevin Walter, who had been with the team since 2006. Walter was due to make $3.15 million this season, but the Texans cleared $2.5 million in cap space by cutting him. Walter, who has been the Texans' No. 2 wideout since 2007, caught just 41 passes for 518 yards and two touchdowns last season. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Walter is entering his age-32 season, and although he has blocking skills that some team will covet, he's just not very productive any longer. The Texans desperately need a more explosive option in their starting lineup next to
Andre Johnson. Lestar Jean or Keshawn Martin could be that

The New York Jets want WR Santonio Holmes to renegotiate his contract. He had a team-high $11 million base salary, and $12.5 million cap figure, in 2013. There is no word on whether general manager John Idzik wants Holmes to take a pay cut or restructure. There is offset language in Holmes' contract, meaning if he is released, he can't earn more than $7.5 million.
Huddle Up: It makes sense from the Jets' perspective to reduce Holmes' gaudy salary number; among wideouts only Andre Johnson is a bigger hit to his team's salary cap. Whether Holmes is agreeable, and to what extent, remains to be seen. The best-case fantasy scenario might be Holmes heading somewhere else, where a better quarterback and a more pass-friendly

Huddle Up: The Texans added a trio of young wideouts -- DeVier Posey, Lestar Jean and Keshawn Martin -- last offseason and they might just bank on one of three stepping forward rather thancommiting more resources to the position. Back in October, Mo Williams was one of my building blocks in the Yahoo! Friends and Family League, my sixth-round pick, the 71st player off the board. We had some good times. The team is off to a solid start. We had an enjoyable 9 1/2 weeks.
But this is No Country for Injured Men, not in a league without IR slots. When the news came down Williams would miss at least six weeks due to his busted thumb, I knew it was time to move forward.
Thanks for the memories, baller.

The NFL Playoffs are now set after 17 grueling weeks of play! There are a ton of story lines to follow. Among the more intriguing are three rookie quarterbacks, one of whom is guaranteed to win a playoff game in their first year; a second year quarterback who took over in week ten; a Colt’s team who went from worst last year to a playoff team this year, riding an emotional high after the return of their head coach from a successful bout against leukemia; and a team that went from the favorite for a first round bye to the number three seed in a few short weeks.
These are the overall rankings for the playoffs. Some formats require you to choose from all the teams in the playoffs, others allow you to go week to week. These

Perhaps the dumbest thing a fantasy manager can possibly do is publish player ranks on a mainstream sports site on the morning of a draft. Definitely not recommended. Poor strategy, requiring a special combination of stupidity and hubris. Far from ideal.
Nonetheless, I'm doing it today. My first fantasy playoff draft is coming up in just a few short hours, and I'm publishing ranks in advance. (Again: Unwise). Obviously I'd prefer to post this thing much later in the afternoon, after the draft, but my schedule is pretty jammed. I've blocked off eight-and-a-half hours to watch the Big Ten get mauled across five bowl games. The conference requires my full attention. So let's just rank the NFL playoff field right

Perhaps the dumbest thing a fantasy manager can possibly do is publish up-to-date player ranks on a mainstream sports site on the morning of a draft. Not recommended. This requires a special combination of stupidity and hubris. Far from ideal.
Nonetheless, today you're getting my NFL playoff ranks just a few hours before my first postseason draft of 2013. I'd prefer to publish this thing much later in the afternoon, post-draft, but unfortunately my schedule is pretty jammed. I've blocked off most of the day to watch the Big Ten get mauled for eight-and-a-half hours, across five games. So let's just rank the field right now.
But first, a few details about league settings...

Andre Johnson became the second player in league history with three seasons of 100 or more catches and 1,500 or more yards. He joins former Indianapolis Colts WR Marvin Harrison as the only player to ever accomplish that feat.

So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

Many offensive coordinators had their head in the clouds again this season, evident in the pass-first mentality most teams portrayed. As a result, pass catchers, unsurprisingly identical to quarterbacks, experienced unprecedented fantasy success. In total, 19 wide receivers averaged at least 10.0 points per game in standard formats, up one from last year and four more than five years ago. The usual suspects dotted the landscape, but several newcomers (e.g. Randall Cobb and Eric Decker) made their mark as well. Below is our recap of this season's WR flames and lames with a quick look at what notable names could bring rags or riches in 2013. Ring out the old, ring in the
