Arm surgery, partying, infection, partying, rehab, partying – it’s been an offseason filled with anesthesia and booze for Rob Gronkowski.
With recent reports about the former Pro Bowler’s recovery from a broken forearm ranging from glowingly optimistic to frustratingly somber, pinpointing exactly what the tight end is worth has been an exercise in futility. However, Wednesday’s news, as first reported by the Boston Herald, finally provided clarity prospective buyers were

On the NFL calendar, May is usually marked with contract disputes, unsubstantiated rumors and, in the case of Justin Blackmon, unlawful acts. However, an interesting tidbit trickled off the wire last week prompting Eagles, and fantasy, fans to reminisce about 2010.

The Bills have signed undrafted free-agent WR Da'Rick Rogers. Off-field issues crushed this guy's stock. Rogers was booted from Tennessee after multiple drug issues. He's admitted to failing at least 3 drug tests. From a pure talent perspective, though, he could have been a 1st-round pick. Rogers went for 1,040 yards and 9 scores in his final season at Tennessee in 2011. He transferred to Division I-AA Tennessee Tech this past year, finishing with 61 catches, 893 yards and 10 TDs. Rogers goes 6'3, 217 pounds with 4.5 speed. He's drawn comparisons to Brandon Marshall as a physical possession receiver. And he instantly becomes the most physically gifted WR on the Bills roster. The Vikings' lack of depth at the position offers a fairly clear path to early starting duty. Rhodes brings some big-play ability with 8 INTs and 23 pass breakups over 3 years at FSU.

Unless something pops up, Johnson will be and should be the first wide receiver off the board. If you are looking for an elite wide receiver in 2013 though, where do you turn after that?

Bears' QB to remain starter for foreseeable futureLovie Smith is out, but
Jay Cutler still has a home in the Windy City. [On Tuesday,] Cutler was being given another vote of confidence as a "franchise quarterback" in Chicago. At least for one more year. "Jay's won a lot of games," GM Phil Emery said on Tuesday. "I think the important thing is we continue to build around him. That to me is part of the equation." And as to whether Cutler is the long-term answer for the Bears, "that answer is going to come as we move forward with a new head coach," said Emery, whose fate as a general manager now rests very heavily on Cutler's success. ...

Chicago Bears fire HC Lovie Smith

The Bears have fired HC Lovie Smith. It's the first firing that wasn't fully expected. Smith's squads have been consistently mediocre lately. They've reached the postseason just once in the past 6 years. Look for Chicago to pursue an offensive-minded HC this offseason. It should be good news for QB Jay Cutler and WR Brandon Marshall.

So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole is reporting that the head coaches of the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, and Chicago Bears will keep their jobs based on sources he has from around the league. Arizona has only won one game since Week 5. Chicago is on the door step of making the playoffs but will need help from Minnesota. Detroit seemed to be turning around a disappointing season by winning three of four games after their Week 5 bye. Since then, they've lost seven straight. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Arizona is making a big mistake unless they really nail their next draft. Their offense is in shambles and their line can't pass protect at all. Chicago was smart to bring in
Brandon Marshall but can you imagine that offense without him? Ugly! Let's also

Many offensive coordinators had their head in the clouds again this season, evident in the pass-first mentality most teams portrayed. As a result, pass catchers, unsurprisingly identical to quarterbacks, experienced unprecedented fantasy success. In total, 19 wide receivers averaged at least 10.0 points per game in standard formats, up one from last year and four more than five years ago. The usual suspects dotted the landscape, but several newcomers (e.g. Randall Cobb and Eric Decker) made their mark as well. Below is our recap of this season's WR flames and lames with a quick look at what notable names could bring rags or riches in 2013. Ring out the old, ring in the

Just two weeks ago, we were all concerned that Dez Bryant's season might end before the fantasy playoffs began. He was meeting with hand specialists, contemplating surgery on his fractured left index finger.
Today, however, Dez is looking like the MVP of the fantasy postseason. He embarrassed the Saints defense on Sunday afternoon, hauling in nine balls for 224 yards on 12 targets, finding the end zone twice. Both of his scores were 58-yarders, with corner Patrick Robinson getting roasted each time.
