Shuffle Up rankings are for the rest of the season. These are not Week 4 ranks. What's happened to this point is an audition, nothing more. If I were starting a fresh league tonight, here's how I'd attack the quarterback position.
If you have a comment on the ranks, I'm all ears. Best place to get my ear: respond to me on Twitter. Use the hashtag #shuffleup.

Take a quick photo of your fantasy squad. Done? Good. Because in most cases, you’re never going to feel as good about your team as you do right now. Soon the season will begin, injuries will befall you and some of those high-round stars, and late-round sleepers won’t work out the way you’d hoped.
Fear not, because an astute fantasy owner is always on the prowl to enhance his or her squad, keeping names others might not think about on their watch list as they try to improve areas that need help.
This week I don’t have a long list of waiver pickups, but I will give you a long watch list of names I will be paying attention to through the early portion of the season. Maybe these names won’t appeal to you

The third preseason game is supposed to be the dress rehearsal for most NFL teams. Not so for the San Diego Chargers. Head coach Norv Turner has decided that Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates won't play tonight versus the Minnesota Vikings.
It has nothing to do with an injury. Rather, it's a move to make sure the Chargers keep those two away from injury. Turner thought it was best to sit Rivers because three starters on his offensive line are hurt and will miss this game as well.
Charlie Whitehurst will take the first snaps.
According to the North County Times, Gates is quot;as healthy as he's ever been." But with his long history of foot ailments, the Chargers want to guarantee that he reaches the regular season like that. FANTASY ANALYSIS:

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates will both sit for Friday's preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. The Chargers still have two preseason games remaining and head coach Norv Turner expressed an interest in seeing backup QB
Charlie Whitehurst play with the starters. quot;Charlie is going to start, and I'm anxious to watch him in a starting role. It's something we may be in the position during the regular season that we have to do that, and it's a good experience for him." FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's worth noting that San Diego's offensive line will be without three starters so this is likely a precaution in order to avoid Rivers getting beat up unnecessarily. Gates on the other hand is reportedly

Source: Fantasy Football Toolbox
San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Brown suffered a broken left ankle during Saturday's preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys. While hauling in an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback
Charlie Whitehurst, Brown went down and was carted off. The penciled-in starters at wide receiver for San Diego should be Robert Meachem, Malcom Floyd and Eddie Royal in the slot. FANTASY ANALYSIS: With Brown out for nearly half the season, this is a death blow to his fantasy status. After a solid rookie year in 2011, the second-year wideout out of San Diego State was poised to take a big step forward and see a definite increase in playing time. This injury puts that potential to bed and Brown should be limited to dynasty rosters only. The Chargers

Here's my top-20 ranking of fantasy football's best NFL backup quarterbacks right now, regardless of their No. 2 or 3 standing with their current teams.
In the course of compiling these rankings—which only account for statistical success—a few assumptions were proffered:
Matt Hasselbeck opens the season as Tennessee's starting quarterback. The Browns won't make any quarterback-themed trades in the next four months. Ryan Tannehill opens the season as Miami's quarterback, even if he's not ready. Kevin Kolb trumps all comers for the Arizona starting job, a byproduct of his

For all we know, Matt Flynn could end up as the next Rich Campbell, Randy Wright, Anthony Dilweg, Jay Barker, Ingle Martin, Craig Nall or Brian Brohm—Packers draftees from the last 31 years who never evolved into established NFL starting quarterbacks.
Or he could become the next Mark Brunell or Matt Hasselbeck or Kurt Warner—one-time backup quarterbacks to Brett Favre in Green Bay who found varying levels of success, fame and fortune in other markets.

Over the past few days, a number of highly sought after signees inked exorbitant deals. Suffice it to say, in a league fixated on the pass, it's good being a wide receiver ($32.5 million to Laurent Robinson? Really Jacksonville? Really?). However, wideouts aren't the only ones that benefited greatly. From a fantasy perspective, here are six of the biggest winners so far in the mad free agency dash.

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms with free-agent QB Matt Flynn to a three-year deal worth as much as $26 million. The deal includes $10 million in guaranteed money. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson will be competing for the starting quarterback job.
Huddle Up: Flynn replaces the failed Charlie Whitehurst experiment and should be able to best the inconsistent Jackson. There is some fantasy upside to the Seattle gig, though much of the offense will run through the ground game and Marshawn Lynch.

The Seattle Seahawks may be considered the frontrunner to acquire Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning if he is released by the Colts. Head coach Pete Carroll is believed to have a strong interest in at least exploring the possibility of signing Manning.
Huddle Up: Manning would be an upgrade over Tarvaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst, though if he returns to anything close to form he would make it tough for Carroll to position himself for a reunion with Matt Barkley in the 2013 draft.
