Ray Rice hoping for bigger receiving role
Source: Draft Sharks
Ravens RB Ray Rice told the Baltimore Sun that he's hoping to see an increased role in the passing game this season. It's certainly possible considering the Ravens lost WR Anquan Boldin and his 65 catches from a year ago. Then again, Rice already leads all RBs with 311 catches over the past 5 seasons. His 2,713 receiving yards trail only Darren Sproles. Rice has caught at least 61 balls in each of the last 4 years. He shouldn't have trouble reaching that mark in 2013. We'll see if he can best his current career high of 78.
Mark Ingram ready for career year?
Source: Draft Sharks
Saints insider Mike Triplett believes RB Mark Ingram is set up for the most productive season of his career. That's not necessarily setting a lofty bar considering Ingram's career highs sit at 602 rushing yards and 5 scores. Triplett throws out 1,000 yards and 10 TDs as possibilities, though. He points to Chris Ivory's departure; the team's rededication to the ground game; and Ingram's full health as reasons to be optimistic. Still, we're struggling to get to those projections. The Saints will remain a pass-heavy offense, and Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles are still around. New Orleans ran for just 1,577 yards as a team last year. And Ingram has yet to top 3.9 yards per carry as a pro. The 10 TDs are probably more in
Pierre Thomas - Saints looking to improve ground game
Source: The Huddle
New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas said head coach Sean Payton wants more focus on the running game this season. 'There's going to be more focus this year on that ground game than any year. He said we've got to get back to running the ball, having 100-yard games non-stop. I can't wait. I'm excited and I know everybody else is excited,' Payton said.Huddle Up: The Saints were a pass-first team with a four-headed RBBC in 2012, but with Chris Ivory traded for the Jets, it makes things more manageable fantasy-wise with Thomas and Mark Ingram as the top 2 RBs and Darren Sproles once again returning as the top pass-catching threat out of the backfield.
New Orleans Saints want to run more in 2013
Source: Draft Sharks
According to Saints RB Pierre Thomas, HC Sean Payton talked about re-establishing the running attack in his very first meeting with the team this offseason. "There's going to be more focus this year on that ground game than any year," Thomas said. "[Payton] said we've got to get back to running the ball, having 100-yard games non-stop. I can't wait. I'm excited and I know everybody else is excited." After finishing 6th in rushing in 2011, New Orleans dropped to 25th last year. Their 370 total rushes ranked 29th in the league -- and were 61 fewer than they recorded the previous season. We can safely expect the Saints to run it more in 2013. But the backfield is still crowded, with Thomas, Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles in the

Chris Ivory - Jets trying to acquire Chris Ivory
Source: The Huddle
The New York Jets are have offered a sixth-round pick for New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory. They are likely to offer a fifth rounder, which may be enough to get him.Huddle Up: In New Orleans, Ivory would be log-jammed behind Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, and Mark Ingram; in New York, he'd be the top candidate to start on a run-first team behind a pretty good run-blocking offensive line. If the trade goes through Ivory will pop up on fantasy radars, likely with too much hype to be considered a true sleeper candidate.
Report: There are 'strong indications' that Jets will acquire Saints RB Chris Ivory
Source: Fantasy Football Toolbox
Running back Chris Ivory, who was a restricted free agent, signed his one-year, $2 million dollar tender offer from the Saints on Friday. But at this point, it would be a surprise if he plays for the Saints this season. ESPN New York's Rich Cimini reports that there are quot;strong indications" that the Jets will strike a deal to acquire Ivory. Cimini says the Jets would be willing to part with a fifth-round pick to get Ivory, but he admits it's unknown if the Saints will take that compensation. Cimini also doesn't mention any trade talks between the two teams. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Still, Cimini wrote on Twitter that he thinks a trade here is "likely." In locker-rooms, on plasma screens or behind podiums, NFL head coaches typically spew one of three different types of propaganda when discussing expectations for newly acquired players – believable, outlandish and whatever the heck flies out of Jim Schwartz’s mouth.
Over the years, Schwartz has rewarded the football community with several golden nuggets, his comparison of Jahvid Best video clips to “porn” being the best. Well, it appears the Old Hyperbolator is at it again. Last week, he divulged to Lions fans running back Reggie Bush is poised for an enormous season.
Joe Morgan the favorite for #3 WR job
Source: Draft Sharks
The Saints haven't shown any interest in bringing back WR Devery Henderson. That has Joe Morgan as the favorite to assume #3 WR duties. The 2011 undrafted free agent has just 10 career catches. But to say he's displayed big-play ability would be an understatement. He's averaged a whopping 37.9 yards per catch and scored on 3 of those 10 grabs. Speed isn't an issue. Morgan is working on becoming a more complete receiver this offseason. "I have to keep that chip on my shoulder so I don't get complacent and think I've done something when in reality I still have a long ways to go," he said. "But I am excited. The opportunity is out there, I just have to seize it." Morgan is worth monitoring as part of New Orleans'
Chris Ivory gets 2nd-round tender
Source: Draft Sharks
The Saints have tendered RB Chris Ivory at the 2nd-round level. That all but guarantees the restricted free agent will return to New Orleans in 2013. Any team interested in signing Ivory would have to surrender a 2nd-round draft pick. Even RB-needy teams aren't likely to make that move. It's unfortunate for Ivory's fantasy football value. He could be a big factor in plenty of other backfields, but New Orleans presents a crowd. Expect Darren Sproles to once again be the only regular starting option for fantasy owners. Ivory will wait around for someone to get hurt.
Giants cut RB Ahmad Bradshaw, open door for RB David Wilson
Source: Fantasy Football Toolbox
The Giants have been perhaps the most active team in releasing players during this first week of the offseason. They have cut defensive players Michael Boley and Chris Canty. Offensive lineman David Diehl and Corey Webster could follow them out the door soon. But the most notable Giant who is now an ex-Giant is running back Ahmad Bradshaw. The team informed him of his release Wednesday. Bradshaw has spent all of his six NFL seasons with the Giants but has also become known for his repeated need for foot surgeries. He is currently recovering from another one on his right foot which was scheduled to replace and re-insert a screw that had been used to repair two previous fractures in his right foot. New Orleans Saints sign Sean Payton to 5-year deal
Source: Draft Sharks
HC Sean Payton and the Saints have agreed to a 5-year contract extension. It keeps the offensive mastermind in New Orleans through the 2017 season. There were rumors that Payton would consider packing his bags for Dallas, but a return to the Big Easy was always the most likely scenario. Payton has won 62 regular season games, plus a Super Bowl, in 6 seasons with the Saints. The team has finished as a top 6 offense each year. Payton's new deal is excellent news for the fantasy values of guys like Drew Brees, Darren Sproles, Marques Colston, and Jimmy Graham.

So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

Saints will see their season end Sunday, and running back Pierre Thomas wasn't going to play anyway due to a knee injury, but he has been placed on injured reserve so the team can add an extra cornerback to the roster. Thomas played through the injury in Week 16 and put up one of his best stat lines of the season. But he was held out of practice all of this week and was ruled out Friday. The Saints enter the season finale against the Panthers with Darren Sproles, Mark Ingram and Chris Ivory sharing the snaps out of the backfield. If you happened to draft Brandon Lloyd this past summer like I did, you’ve probably been shaking your head when watching the Patriots play on prime-time television the past two weeks as the veteran has looked like a Pro Bowl star. In that time Lloyd has been targeted a whopping 25-times, hauling in 17-receptions for 279-yards a score and even picking up a fumble recovery in the end zone for another touchdown.
Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.

For all the success Doug Martin has had in his rookie season, fantasy owners had to be disappointed and a little shocked by his numbers against the Saints last week. Playing against one of the worst run defenses in the league, Martin appeared to be a shoe in for over 100-yards and at least one score, but the Saints built up a big lead in the first half, forcing the Buccaneers to stick with the passing game.
Don’t expect the same situation this week as Tampa Bay heads back home to play the Rams. Look for St. Louis to give them a competitive game, but the game scripts will play out the way we’ve grown accustomed to seeing from this team most of the year, and

In the NFL, it's not often that we can accurately say we've never seen something before, that an individual or team accomplishment is completely without precedent in the league's 90-plus-year history. But at this point, I think that's where we are with Adrian Peterson.

I was knocked out of my highest priority league last week because I made the wrong choice at QB between Andrew Luck and Colin Kaepernick. It was the second week in a row that I made the wrong choice, and it was the umpteenth reminder that I really hate not having one franchise QB that I simply never have to think about benching — there's maybe 6-7 of them, with Luck just missing that elite cut. At any rate, I still have a couple other dogs in the hunt among all my leagues, but as I pointed out with the Luck/Kaepernick example, one wrong move can provide a swift ending to the '12 season. Should I go with Brandon Weeden or Ben Roethlisberger? Steve Smith or Owen Daniels? You might be able to win a championship even if you don't make all

Finally! Dynasty owners like myself with David Wilson on their bench have been waiting for the ultra talented rookie to receive an opportunity to show case what he can do. Earlier in the season he had a long touchdown run against the Browns, but because of early fumbling issues and pass protection concerns, Andre Brown moved past Wilson on the depth chart.
Brown was placed on injured reserve a few weeks back and the Giants countered with Craig Lumpkin as added depth. Lumpkin saw a few snaps against the Redskins, but the Giants decided to use Ahmad Bradshaw as the teams feature back again as a counter to the Brown’s injury, rather than working Wilson in as a

Darren McFadden returned last Thursday night after missing four games with a lower leg injury. His performance brought mixed results as he carried the football 11 times for 52-yards and hauled in two receptions for 12-yards and a touchdown.
McFadden had one good run of the night as he had a nice block on the edge, turned the corner and picked up 37-yards on the run. On that play it appeared McFadden was wincing in pain and he seemed to almost go into a jump when he had to cut back to his right throughout the night.

One assumption I'm making with this exercise: I don't think Shady McCoy plays again in 2012. I also don't think there's anything fluky about Bryce Brown: he's quick, he's powerful, and he's making things work despite a patchwork Philadelphia offensive line. He needs to get a hold on the fumbling problem, but otherwise, he's

Saints RB Chris Ivory has been added to the Week 14 injury report as doubtful with a hamstring. It's unclear when the injury occured, but it looks like he'll be inactive for tomorrow's game against the Giants. After carrying just 3 times last week, Ivory wasn't a fantasy option anyways. His absence will mean a few more touches will be spread between RBs Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, and Darren Sproles.

After struggling through the first half of the season to pickup the teams new zone blocking scheme, Darren McFadden suffered another injury and for the 5th year in a row McFadden will now have missed at least four games. It just so happens that McFadden has only played five season in the league, so fantasy owners who drafted him this summer should have known the risk in taking him as a high round draft pick.

With the playoffs on the line last week fantasy owners with Arian Foster had to be disappointed in the distribution of touches in Houston’s backfield. Justin Forsett carried the football 14 times, the same amount as Foster and he actually ran for more yards than the star veteran.
Credit this committee approach to the fact that the Titans made it easy (big lead by half time, horrible play from Jake Locker) on Houston, it probably made sense to ease Foster’s workload as the Texans have an all-important matchup against the Patriots this week. Expect Forsett to give Foster a breather at times this week, but this should be a game where Foster touches the football

One of the top prospects in the nation coming out of high school, it looked like Bryce Brown was headed towards a promising college career, but it didn’t work out that way. If things would’ve gone according to plan we could’ve seen Brown as a first-round pick last spring, instead he was a seventh-round pick that the Eagles took a chance on.
For all the problems Andy Reid’s team has had this year, one move that clearly paid off was bringing Brown to Philadelphia. Brown outplayed Dion Lewis and Chris Polk to run away with the backup role to LeSean McCoy and had earned more time on the field, before McCoy’s concussion a few weeks ago.
