The Panthers and RB DeAngelo Williams have agreed to a restructured contract. The new deal will reportedly save the team $3.2 million against the 2013 salary cap. Carolina will also save money in 2014 and 2015. Williams was a potential release candidate this summer, but the restructured contract will keep him around this season -- and maybe the following 2 seasons, too. It's bad news for RB Jonathan Stewart, who will continue to share the backfield with Williams. This past year, J-Stew averaged 10.3 carries and 37 rushing yards per game. Williams was at 10.8 carries and 46 yards. Both guys were outside the top-30 RBs in fantasy points per game.

New Panthers GM Dave Gettleman offered this ringing endorsement on the radio Tuesday for RB DeAngelo Williams' status: "Right now, he's on the roster." As Pro Football Talk points out, Carolina could have released him already with the June 1 designation to spread out the cap hit. The fact he's still around suggests the team might just keep him. Then again, the Panthers drafted Oregon RB Kenjon Barner into an already-crowded backfield. They might still be hoping to trade Williams to a team that encounters an RB need. Fantasy owners would certainly love any move to take the shackles off RB Jonathan Stewart's significant upside.

Owners who invested an exorbitant pick in china doll Darren McFadden last year are still sorely regretting it. Chucking hard inflatable balls at his dome, Mike Rice-style, would be an acceptable form of cathartic release.
When not sidelined for the 10 millionth time with a lower body ailment (last year a high-ankle sprain), the disappointing rusher appeared overly timid, lacked explosiveness and was generally terrible, an ill-fit for Greg Knapp’s zone-blocking scheme. Shockingly 82 of his 216 rushing attempts (37.9 percent) went for one, zero or negative yards. His overall yards per carry average (3.3) was the lowest of his career, by a wide margin. According to

Fantasy football owners couldn't care much less what Olsen or any other Panther is making. But Carolina is about to get under the cap without dumping RB DeAngelo Williams. According to the Charlotte Observer, a league source says the Panthers hope to keep RBs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. It's not a total surprise. The team did give Williams a big contract with Stewart already around. But it's simply a bad financial decision and unnecessary football move. Stewart is a terrific back when he's allowed to be. Mike Tolbert is plenty capable as a backup. And another body could be added via free agency or the draft's middle rounds. Williams remains a quality player as well, but he's aging and expensive. He'll turn 30 in April and carry an $8.2 million cap number into 2013. Dumping that would provide a lot of relief to a team projected to be about $10 million over the cap. Our hope is this report has

The Panthers reportedly sit about $10 million over the expected 2013 salary cap. It comes as no surprise, then, that they reworked the contracts of C Ryan Kalil and RB Jonathan Stewart. The Kalil move knocks his cap number from $9.85 million down to $6.4 million. The Charlotte Observer points out, however, that Stewart's reworked deal actually increases his 2013 cap number by $200,000. That sure makes it look like the Panthers are locking him in as their lead back for the coming season. Such a move only casts more doubt on DeAngelo Williams' future with the franchise. Carolina has not received much of a return of investment on Stewart after re-signing him to a six-year deal this offseason which expires after the 2017 season. If you happened to draft Brandon Lloyd this past summer like I did, you’ve probably been shaking your head when watching the Patriots play on prime-time television the past two weeks as the veteran has looked like a Pro Bowl star. In that time Lloyd has been targeted a whopping 25-times, hauling in 17-receptions for 279-yards a score and even picking up a fumble recovery in the end zone for another touchdown.
Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.

Playing against one of the worst run defenses in the league, Martin appeared to be a shoe in for over 100-yards and at least one score, but the Saints built up a big lead in the first half, forcing the Buccaneers to stick with the passing game.

Each week the Noise highlights 12-13 somewhat obscure, unobvious names who he believes are destined to torch the competition. To qualify, each player must be started in fewer than 60 percent of Yahoo! leagues. Speaking as an accountability advocate, I will post the results, whether genius or moronic, the following week using the scoring system shown here. If you're a member of TEAM HUEVOS, post your Week 16 Flames in the comments section below.

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (ankle, finger) completed 19 of his 33 pass attempts for 231 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 15 win against the San Diego Chargers. He also had four runs for seven yards. Newton banged his right index finger on the helmet of San Diego Chargers DL Cam Thomas, cutting his knuckle. He said that, and the twisted ankle he also suffered, were fine.
Huddle Up: Newton definitely did his part but didn't need to be Superman with RBs Mike Tolbert (40 yards, 2 TDs) and DeAngelo Williams (144 total yards, TD) gashing the Chargers.

In the NFL, it's not often that we can accurately say we've never seen something before, that an individual or team accomplishment is completely without precedent in the league's 90-plus-year history. But at this point, I think that's where we are with Adrian Peterson.
All-Day rushed for another 212 yards on Sunday, raising his league-leading season total to 1,812. Here's the highlight run, an 82-yarder. Peterson has topped the 200-yard plateau in two of
