When Mr. Irrelevant, South Carolina tight end Justice Cunningham, had his name called in front of a small group of reasonably sauced lingerers at last month’s NFL Draft, Fantasyland’s finest quickly began formulating thoughts and assembling cheat sheets for this year’s fake football drafts.
Mock season officially kicked off …
Over the next several weeks, armchair quarterbacks of various backgrounds will hone their draft skills in preparation for main events come August. During these exercises, participants will tinker with new strategies, rack their brains over complicated backfields and shout out expletives when desired players are pilfered just before their pick, all the while proclaiming

Denver Broncos WR Tavarres King, their fifth-round draft choice, has speed as his biggest asset, and he figures to add field-stretching ability to a stable of wide receivers - Wes Welker,
Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker - that is best known for their short to intermediate passing contributions. King may see some playing time for this reason as another option for QB Peyton Manning. 'As a receiver I'm a guy that gets deep in a hurry, (I) led the FBS in yards per catch last year with 22. (I'm) somebody that you guys are going to be able to depend on, somebody who will do exactly as Peyton says,' King said. 'Peyton's going to put me in a position to succeed.'

On the NFL calendar, May is usually marked with contract disputes, unsubstantiated rumors and, in the case of Justin Blackmon, unlawful acts. However, an interesting tidbit trickled off the wire last week prompting Eagles, and fantasy, fans to reminisce about 2010.
Ahh, the good ol’ days.
Last Thursday, with teammates looking on, Michael Vick went all Usain Bolt on LeSean McCoy, burning the gum-flapping youngster, a player eight years his junior, in a 40-yard footrace, a resounding victory for

New York Jets WR Stephen Hill said he is not feeling pressure entering this season but believes he needs to step up his play after being with the team for a season.
Our View: Hill needs to play with urgency and work towards developing a better pro game. Like
Demaryius Thomas before him, Hill was extremely raw as a route runner coming out of Georgia Tech. He's got upside but needs to stay healthy and prove that he's more than just a '9' route guy.

DeAndre Hopkins HOU (1st RD) -
While Cordarrelle Patterson may have the best upside from a raw skills perspective in this years class, it is Deandre Hopkins that is No.1 on my board. In Hopkins you have the most polished receiver in this class and he should be a slam dunk, week one starter opposite Andre Johnson.
At worst case Hopkins will be a bye week starting option in his rookie year and at best case he’s probably a weekly WR3 play. By next year we should see his floor at WR3, and his upside could blossom as far as a WR1 in PPR leagues, if the injury bug jumps up and bits Johnson again.

When it comes to rookies conventional wisdom no longer applies. With a few notable exceptions, most first-year players, particularly quarterbacks, were once thought to be multi-year projects, the Steve McNair approach – observe, learn and wait.
But in this day and age where instant gratification is constantly sought after, time isn’t of the essence. Several players picked in April are immediately pressed into competitive situations where often times they emerge as the go-to option, evident in the rapid ascension of guys like Robert Griffin III, Doug Martin and Josh Gordon, to name a few, last year. Because nuances from the college game are commonplace

One of the most productive running backs in NCAA history is now a Bronco. Denver selected Wisconsin's Montee Ball in the second round of the draft Friday. Ball ran for more than 5,000 yards in college and owns the record for career all-purpose touchdowns with 83. Ball's presence has big implications on Willis McGahee and Ronnie Hillman. FANTASY ANALYSIS: I guess I should also mention Knowshon Moreno, but most believe his time was already up in Denver. Ball is not a special athlete, but he can be a workhorse runner. He has good vision and power and should be seen as the Broncos' new lead back. With Ball around, it would feel kind of redundant if Denver kept Willis McGahee, a somewhat similar player. Hillman would remain a change-of-pace

Peyton Manning threw for 4,659 yards and 37 touchdowns last season at the age of 36. He was named the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year. He made his 12th Pro Bowl and was the runner-up in the Most Valuable Player voting. Not bad for someone who wasn't -- and still isn't -- fully recovered from multiple neck surgeries two years ago.
quot; When you're dealing with nerves, I've learned it's a patience deal," Manning said in a TV interview Friday. "They kind of say it could be a year or two, or it may never come back, so I'm kind of hopeful. I kind of wish certain things would come back a little bit more, but I have learned to adjust and compensate in the state that I am. I still would like to make some more improvement. I still work at

Roughly seven weeks ago the final seconds ticked off the Superdome clock. Confetti cascaded from the rafters. A champion was crowned. Baltimore fended off a late-charge by San Francisco to take Super Bowl XLVII. Its fans entered a perpetual state of euphoria. The rest of the pigskin community, however, mourned.
Tears streamed down wing-stained checks. Jerseys went into hibernation. Fantasy discussions around the water-cooler subsided. Life became unfulfilled.
The annual football famine was officially underway.
Now multiple firings, several cuts and one bloated Joe Flacco contract later, the NFL is again a hot topic. In recent days, seismic trades (e.g. Alex Smith to KC, Percy

WR Wes Welker has agreed to a 2-year, $12 million deal with the Broncos. This is easily the most impactful news of free agency -- both in real life and fantasy. The balance of power in the AFC shifts as the game's most productive slot receiver goes from one powerhouse to another. It's a big blow to QB Tom Brady's fantasy outlook. He's always gotten it done regardless of who's been catching passes in New England, but the loss of Welker will likely knock him out of the top 5 at the position. We'll see if they can land free agent Danny Amendola to replace Welker. QB Peyton Manning, meanwhile, picks up another big-time weapon to go along with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker. His ceiling will be as high as any QB in the league in

Welcome to the biggest story of quot;Free Agent Frenzy." Wes Welker is a Denver Bronco. ESPN's Adam Schefter first broke the news and tweets that the deal is worth a total of $12 million. NFL Network's Albert Breer followed up by saying Welker has signed a two-year contract. Welker has caught 672 passes since 2007, the NFL leader during that period by far. He is the only wide receiver in league history with five 100-catch seasons on his resume, and now he goes from Tom Brady to Peyton Manning. FANTASY ANALYSIS: OK, first, let's take a deep breath and soak this all in.

Source: Draft Sharks
TE Fred Davis is reportedly "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from last year's ruptured Achilles tendon. That doesn't necessarily mean he'll be ready for the 2013 season opener though. Davis went down last October, and it's an injury that usually takes at least a year to rehab. It's a tough injury to return from in any timeframe, although Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas is a shining example that it is possible. Davis' situation is even more interesting because he's a free-agent this offseason. The 'Skins won't franchise-tag him and would like to wait until the spring to check on his rehab before making a decision on whether or not to bring him back. We'll see if another team swoops in before then. Over the past 2 seasons,

If the Denver Broncos decide to make a big splash in the offseason, the wide receiver position is where the team could spend significant money. With his career winding down, QB Peyton Manning would like another big weapon to throw to. New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Wes Welker is an option, as could Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent WR Mike Wallace. The team could also attempt to trade for Minnesota Vikings WR Percy Harvin.
Huddle Up: While Manning might enjoy adding Welker or Harvin alongside Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, it would be a fantasy bummer with three talented receivers all drinking from the same cup. Then again, Manning has produced a season where three receivers all topped 1,000

Elsewhere on the offensive side in Indy, it appears tight end Dwyane Allen has a fan in offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton. Hamilton told the team's official website that Allen quot;is a tremendous weapon that you want to have in any offense" because Allen can lineup all over the field, block and win one-on-one matchups against defenders. The NFL Playoffs are now set after 17 grueling weeks of play! There are a ton of story lines to follow. Among the more intriguing are three rookie quarterbacks, one of whom is guaranteed to win a playoff game in their first year; a second year quarterback who took over in week ten; a Colt’s team who went from worst last year to a playoff team this year, riding an emotional high after the return of their head coach from a successful bout against leukemia; and a team that went from the favorite for a first round bye to the number three seed in a few short weeks.
These are the overall rankings for the playoffs. Some formats require you to choose from all the teams in the playoffs, others allow you to go week to week. These

So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

Many offensive coordinators had their head in the clouds again this season, evident in the pass-first mentality most teams portrayed. As a result, pass catchers, unsurprisingly identical to quarterbacks, experienced unprecedented fantasy success. In total, 19 wide receivers averaged at least 10.0 points per game in standard formats, up one from last year and four more than five years ago. The usual suspects dotted the landscape, but several newcomers (e.g. Randall Cobb and Eric Decker) made their mark as well. Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.

While many have made the case for Michael Crabtree being a first round bust, it appears the 4th year receiver is starting to come into his own. Early signs in the off-season suggested this could be a breakout year for Crabtree, if for no other reason than he finally overcame his problematic foot issues.
For the first-time Crabtree actually played in a preseason game this August, and thankfully his foot ailments appear to be a thing of the past.
The best thing that ever happened for Crabtree was Alex Smith’s demotion in the middle of the season. It’s not that Crabtree and Smith weren’t having success together, but more that Colin Kaepernick has the

Jason Witten you make me angry. Why don’t you score more touchdowns for me? You are top 10 in the league, INCLUDING receivers in targets with 134. That’s more than the likes of Demaryius Thomas, Victor Cruz, Roddy White, and Steve Smith. How do you only score two touchdowns?! You would figure a tight end would score more touchdowns than a receiver with his targets, right? Being a big comfort target in the red-zone and all. Watch a Cowboys game and literally every time Tony Romo needs to pick up a first down late in the game he goes to Wiitten. Every time. So why when it comes down to throwing touchdown passes are you SO selfish? Jason has been with you all throughout your time at Dallas, throw him a bone…or touchdown now and then. That being said Witten is a great fantasy play in any format, and especially in PPR leagues. Witten is bound to catch a touchdown or two in his final two games. If you have the future Hall of Famer on your team sit tight, and be patient. The touchdowns will come…I hope.

In the NFL, it's not often that we can accurately say we've never seen something before, that an individual or team accomplishment is completely without precedent in the league's 90-plus-year history. But at this point, I think that's where we are with Adrian Peterson.
All-Day rushed for another 212 yards on Sunday, raising his league-leading season total to 1,812. Here's the highlight run, an 82-yarder. Peterson has topped the 200-yard plateau in two of

Finally! Dynasty owners like myself with David Wilson on their bench have been waiting for the ultra talented rookie to receive an opportunity to show case what he can do. Earlier in the season he had a long touchdown run against the Browns, but because of early fumbling issues and pass protection concerns, Andre Brown moved past Wilson on the depth chart.
Brown was placed on injured reserve a few weeks back and the Giants countered with Craig Lumpkin as added depth. Lumpkin saw a few snaps against the Redskins, but the Giants decided to use Ahmad Bradshaw as the teams feature back again as a counter to the Brown’s injury, rather than working Wilson in as a

Since returning from injury, DeMarco Murray has 44 carries for 136 yards, good for a 3.1 YPC mark, although he's salvaged fantasy value by scoring twice. Among Murray's 21 rushing attempts Sunday, his longest gain was seven yards, although in fairness the Bengals are actually the best team in the NFL at limiting long runs, as they've allowed just five carries for 20+ yards and zero for 40+ on the year…BenJarvus Green-Ellis had one carry that went at least 30 yards during his career entering Week 12. He's had runs for 48, 41 and 38 yards in each of his past three games, respectively…Assuming you weren't on bye, A.J. Green sure picked a bad week to have his worst game of the

The Chargers finally picked up a win and did so against a playoff caliber team, on the road. While Danario Alexander started off slow, he eventually had his way with the Steelers secondary picking up seven receptions for 88-yards and two touchdowns.
Alexander has done a terrific job in the short passing game, crossing routes and big plays down the field. Those of you that watched the Chargers play the Steelers on Sunday also know he has terrific balance and body control when going up in the air on 50/50 balls against a defender. This makes him a dangerous man inside the red zone and like his first touchdown, his body control around the sidelines allowed him to leap

Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas missed the entire 2nd quarter of Thursday night's game with a shoulder injury. He returned for the 2nd half, though, hauling in 3 balls for 52 yards. Thomas finished the night with 83 yards on 5 grabs. He also drew 34 yards worth of pass interference penalties. “Oh, I’ll be fine,” Thomas said after the game. “As long as I can play, I’m good.” With 10 days off, the shoulder should be a non-issue for Week 15. Thomas remains a must-start in fantasy.
