Kansas City Chiefs WR Jonathan Baldwin appears to be the favorite for the No. 2 wide receiver job at this point but has not emerged as the dominant offseason player like he was last offseason. WRs Donnie Avery, Dexter McCluster and Terrance Copper are also expected to be candidates for the job.
Our View: Baldwin has the skill set to be a top 32 WR in the game today. He's failed to play up to his potential as a pro but he could be re-energized under new head coach Andy Reid. With
Dwayne Bowe taking the attention of the defense away the WR2 is going to see plenty of single coverage.

Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe told the Kansas City Star Ledger that he plans to “lead the league in receptions” this year. “When we get in full gear and pads and close to the season, it’s going to be a show to watch,” he added. Bowe is plenty confident coming into 2013 with a new HC, and, more importantly, a different face at QB. But it'll take a heroic effort to lead the league in catches. Bowe's career-high sits at 86, which came in 2010. That was good for just a 10th-place finish. Still, it's a good sign that that the Chiefs players are excited about the new system brought in by Andy Reid. Bowe should bounce back as a WR2 working with Alex Smith in 2013.

Perhaps a sign the Bengals aren’t happy with what they’ve seen from Jermaine Gresham as they went for the top tight end in this years draft, with one of their two first-round picks.
I had the chance to hear an interview with Eifert on Movin’ The Chains, about a week before the draft and they asked him if he’d visited any teams for workouts.
To my surprise Eifert told them he hadn’t visited teams, but radio host Pat Kirwan said that was a good thing in his case because it meant teams “knew” what they were getting in him.

The Chiefs have signed WR Donnie Avery. He was inefficient in his lone season with the Colts, hauling in just 53.6% of his targets. He did finish with career highs in both catches (60) and yards (781) though. In an ideal world, Avery will slot in as KC's 3rd WR behind Dwayne Bowe and Jon Baldwin. But if Baldwin fails to take a step forward, Avery could serve as the #2 WR. That could be enough for him to garner WR3 attention in fantasy leagues. Meanwhile, T.Y. That'd allow him to make his point but still accrue an official year of service and hit unrestricted free agency next offseason. It's the same move Vincent Jackson pulled as a Charger back in 2010. Harvin is reportedly looking a contract closer in value to what Calvin Johnson got ($16.5 million per year) than Dwayne Bowe ($11 million). As special as Harvin is, that's a lot of coin to cough up to a headcase with a sketchy medical history. Those demands will also make it tough for Minnesota to trade him. The St. Louis Rams likely will not show interest in Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Greg Jennings or Kansas City Chiefs impending free-agent WR
Dwayne Bowe because they consider Jennings an injury risk and are worried that Bowe's play could decrease after he receives a big contract.
Huddle Up: The Rams may not go big with a FA WR signing but they're going to have to dip into the pool at some point as their top 2 wideouts -- Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson -- are unrestricted free agents.

The Kansas City Chiefs are actively working on a new contract for impending free-agent WR
Dwayne Bowe and have met with his representatives. The two sides are expected to continue to talk over the next few weeks.
Huddle Up: The Chiefs have plenty of other questions to answer without letting Bowe go and leaving their WR cupboard completely bare. Look for a deal to get done.
