In 2012 Steelers rookie WR Markus Wheaton had 21 receptions, on passes of 15 yards or longer, which ranked 2nd in Pac-12 last year behind Marqise Lee (USC).
Our View: Mike Wallace who? That's what the Steelers are hoping Wheaton makes fans say. Wheaton is fast like Wallace but a more natural receiver who does a good job of adjusting to poorly thrown passes. He'll compete for playing time as the Steelers third WR behind Antonio Brown and
Emmanuel Sanders in 2013.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes that 3rd-round WR Markus Wheaton could make the biggest impact of any Steelers rookie this season. Wheaton brings good downfield speed and polished route running. Doug Farrar of Yahoo!'s Shutdown Corner blog compared him to Brandon Lloyd. Wheaton, of course, will likely compete with 1st-round OLB Jarvis Jones and 2nd-round RB Le'Veon Bell for the "most impactful" label. But the fact that he's in the discussion makes Wheaton worth a look later in your fantasy draft. He might open the season behind only Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders on the WR depth chart.

Emmanuel Sanders said the team was not on the same page offensively, and that it was obvious, even though it was was not because of the running game. 'I like Jonathan Dwyer. We had a new offensive coordinator. At times, we weren't on the same page. And that's obvious,'
Sanders said.
Our View: Hopefully year two in the Todd Haley system will be better. It will help the entire offense if they can run between the tackles with greater effectiveness. Last year they averaged 3.5 YPC between the tackles, a full yard lower than their average in 2011.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is "really excited" to have WR Emmanuel Sanders back in the fold for 2013. “He’s a lot better than people give him credit for being,” Big Ben said. “He’s really smart. If he stays healthy I think he can do some great things." Roethlisberger added that Sanders can work in the slot or outside the numbers because of his "good mix of speed and quickness." We continue to believe Sanders is capable of providing WR3 production for fantasy squads this year.

ESPN's Jamison Hensley agrees with the Steelers' decision to retain WR Emmanuel Sanders, calling him a "good fit" in OC Todd Haley's offense. "Sanders doesn't have the same straight-line speed as [Mike] Wallace (few do), but he has great quickness and is better than Wallace at generating yards after the catch." Sanders did, in fact, average more yards-after-the-catch than Wallace last year (5.1 to 4.4). He also finished with a better drop rate than his former teammate. It's all good news as Sanders looks to move into the starting lineup in a passing game that relies on receivers securing the football and making plays in the open field.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Steelers have matched the 1-year, $2.5 million offer sheet extended to WR Emmanuel Sanders by the Patriots. QB Ben Roethlisberger pushed the team to hang on to Sanders and got what he wanted. That would seem to bode well for Sanders’ 2013 fantasy football value. He set career highs this past year with 44 grabs and 626 yards. Now he’ll step into Mike Wallace’s spot in the Steelers’ offense. That position produced 100+ targets in each of the past 3 seasons. Sanders could make a run at triple digits this year. He’ll carry intriguing upside in fantasy drafts this summer. The Patriots, meanwhile, will likely look to bolster their WR corps in the draft later this month.

Huddle Up: Great news for QB Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers in the short term, but Sanders' long-term future will now become an issue. That, in all likelihood, be decided by Sanders' on-field performance in 2013 with the wideout now expected to step up with the departure of Mike Wallace.

Emmanuel Sanders is still a Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver. Jordan Woy, Sanders' agent, tweeted Sunday that the team has matched the Patriots' one-year, $2.5 million offer to the 26-year-old wideout, meaning
Sanders will spend his fourth season in Pittsburgh. If the Steelers hadn't matched Sanders' offer by midnight tonight, he would have become the Patriots' property. FANTASY ANALYSIS: I guess all of that lobbying by Ben Roethlisberger to keep
Sanders worked. It's a worthwhile match for the Steelers, who were looking at the possibility of at having a huge void at WR heading into the draft. They could definitely use more there, but a combination of

ESPN's Adam Schefter has learned that the offer sheet the Patriots signed WR Emmanuel Sanders to is a 1-year, $2.5 million deal. It's a cheap offer, and one the Steelers should be able to match. Sanders was already on Pittsburgh's books for $1.3 million this season, so the new contract would only count another $1.2 million against their cap. If the Steelers don't match New England's offer, it's because they'd rather have the 3rd-round pick. That would say a lot about how the team feels about Sanders' ability.
