2013 Rookie Dynasty Draft – WR Rankings

DeAndre Hopkins HOU (1st RD) -
While Cordarrelle Patterson may have the best upside from a raw skills perspective in this years class, it is Deandre Hopkins that is No.1 on my board. In Hopkins you have the most polished receiver in this class and he should be a slam dunk, week one starter opposite Andre Johnson.
At worst case Hopkins will be a bye week starting option in his rookie year and at best case he’s probably a weekly WR3 play. By next year we should see his floor at WR3, and his upside could blossom as far as a WR1 in PPR leagues, if the injury bug jumps up and bits Johnson again.

Seahawks HC Pete Carroll says, even with Percy Harvin, his offense will 'attack with running game'
Source: Fantasy Football Toolbox
For a team that registered the most rushing attempts and fewest passing attempts last year, the arrival of Percy Harvin will surely change the Seahawks' offense. So, how much? According to head coach Pete Carroll, none at all. quot; This is not a change at all," Carroll said during a Wednesday radio interview. "... We're gonna do exactly what we wanna do with continuing to send the message about how physical we are, how we attack with the running game and fit off that." FANTASY ANALYSIS: OK, whatever. The Seahawks are going to throw more often this season. When you have a top-10 WR in your mitts, you can do that. According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, the Vikings have agreed to trade top wideout Percy Harvin to the Seahawks. Update: The Vikings will reportedly receive the Seahawks' first-round pick (25th overall) and seventh-round pick this year. They will also get a middle-round pick in 2014. Not bad. Also, multiple reports state that Harvin will sign a long-term contract with Seattle soon, possibly within the next 24 hours. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Wow. The NFL Playoffs are now set after 17 grueling weeks of play! There are a ton of story lines to follow. Among the more intriguing are three rookie quarterbacks, one of whom is guaranteed to win a playoff game in their first year; a second year quarterback who took over in week ten; a Colt’s team who went from worst last year to a playoff team this year, riding an emotional high after the return of their head coach from a successful bout against leukemia; and a team that went from the favorite for a first round bye to the number three seed in a few short weeks.
These are the overall rankings for the playoffs. Some formats require you to choose from all the teams in the playoffs, others allow you to go week to week. These

Submitted for your derision: Fantasy ranks for NFL playoff leagues

Perhaps the dumbest thing a fantasy manager can possibly do is publish player ranks on a mainstream sports site on the morning of a draft. Definitely not recommended. Poor strategy, requiring a special combination of stupidity and hubris. Far from ideal.
Nonetheless, I'm doing it today. My first fantasy playoff draft is coming up in just a few short hours, and I'm publishing ranks in advance. (Again: Unwise). Obviously I'd prefer to post this thing much later in the afternoon, after the draft, but my schedule is pretty jammed. I've blocked off eight-and-a-half hours to watch the Big Ten get mauled across five bowl games. The conference requires my full attention. So let's just rank the NFL playoff field right

While many have made the case for Michael Crabtree being a first round bust, it appears the 4th year receiver is starting to come into his own. Early signs in the off-season suggested this could be a breakout year for Crabtree, if for no other reason than he finally overcame his problematic foot issues.
For the first-time Crabtree actually played in a preseason game this August, and thankfully his foot ailments appear to be a thing of the past.
The best thing that ever happened for Crabtree was Alex Smith’s demotion in the middle of the season. It’s not that Crabtree and Smith weren’t having success together, but more that Colin Kaepernick has the

WR could miss game against the Bills this SundaySeattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice has a bruised foot, is in a walking boot and could be in question for Sunday's game against Buffalo in Toronto. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that the foot problem came out of nowhere. Rice doesn't remember aggravating the foot in last Sunday's blowout win over Arizona, but he woke up Monday morning in pain. Rice had just two catches in the Seahawks' 58-0 win over the Cardinals. Rice leads the Seahawks with 45 receptions for 658 yards and seven touchdowns. (

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice injured his foot and was unable to practice Wednesday. He was seen wearing a walking boot and looks like he may be a game-time decision in Week 15 for Seattle's game against the Buffalo Bills. Rice is currently listed as probably but could be downgraded if he does not practice later in the week. The sixth-year receiver has five touchdowns in his last six games. Head coach Pete Carroll only said he was quot;not sure" when asked if Rice would be able to play. Finally! Dynasty owners like myself with David Wilson on their bench have been waiting for the ultra talented rookie to receive an opportunity to show case what he can do. Earlier in the season he had a long touchdown run against the Browns, but because of early fumbling issues and pass protection concerns, Andre Brown moved past Wilson on the depth chart.
Brown was placed on injured reserve a few weeks back and the Giants countered with Craig Lumpkin as added depth. Lumpkin saw a few snaps against the Redskins, but the Giants decided to use Ahmad Bradshaw as the teams feature back again as a counter to the Brown’s injury, rather than working Wilson in as a

The Chargers finally picked up a win and did so against a playoff caliber team, on the road. While Danario Alexander started off slow, he eventually had his way with the Steelers secondary picking up seven receptions for 88-yards and two touchdowns.
Alexander has done a terrific job in the short passing game, crossing routes and big plays down the field. Those of you that watched the Chargers play the Steelers on Sunday also know he has terrific balance and body control when going up in the air on 50/50 balls against a defender. This makes him a dangerous man inside the red zone and like his first touchdown, his body control around the sidelines allowed him to leap

At this point in the season any running back help is a good thing. When you have a chance to pickup a running back that could see a feature back role, it’s even more important to give them a look. Consider Alex Green of the Packers and Montell Owens of the Jaguars as such options this week.

After struggling through the first half of the season to pickup the teams new zone blocking scheme, Darren McFadden suffered another injury and for the 5th year in a row McFadden will now have missed at least four games. It just so happens that McFadden has only played five season in the league, so fantasy owners who drafted him this summer should have known the risk in taking him as a high round draft pick.
If you happen to be one of the luck fantasy owners that has survived McFadden’s bust season and still made the playoffs, this could be the time to cash in on what you hoped for all year.

It’s hard to like Dez Bryant as a person but when it comes to talent, we’ve known for some time he has the ability to be an elite option at the receiver position. The question was, would Bryant ever figure out what it takes to play at a Pro Bowl level in the NFL?
In his third season Bryant was having an up and down campaign, until the last four weeks. In that time Bryant has posted 29 receptions for 475-yards and six touchdowns. Two of those games came against the Eagles and in the second game Bryant abused the Eagles secondary after the catch, physically running over and past them for two impressive scores.

If we asked you to evaluate two unnamed NFL quarterbacks based only on these stats...
Player A — 7.1 Y/A, 17 TDs, 16 INTs, 54.4% comp, 216 rush
Player B — 7.4 Y/A, 19 TDs, 8 INTs, 63.4% comp, 298 rush
...it's unlikely you'd conclude that Player A was better. You definitely wouldn't suggest that he was substantially better.
However, that's the way many still perceive the relative worth of Andrew Luck (Player A) and Russell Wilson (Player B).
Of course you might also argue that we can't reasonably evaluate QBs based on a few cherry-picked stats, omitting team context and win-loss record — and you'd be right. I'm not all that interested in making

Bears SS Major Wright crushed him at the goal line, jarring the ball loose after breaking the plane. WR takes hard hit to back of headSidney Rice won Sunday's game for his team, catching a pass near the Chicago end zone before crossing the plane for a touchdown. But as he fell to the end zone, he took a hard shot to the head, and he appeared to be unconscious or close to it, with his arms locked in a way that was eerily similar to the concussion Lions running back Jahvid Best suffered in college at California. But Rice, per a league source, has not yet been diagnosed with a concussion. Whether he eventually is or isn't, it's amazing that he has avoided

Adrian Peterson had 55 rushing yards on his first 18 carries Sunday. He ended with 171 rushing yards on 27 carries. Over the last four games, he's rushed for 629 yards while getting 7.7 YPC. He also leads the NFL with 40 broken tackles just 10 months removed from surgery to repair a torn ACL. It's hard not to consider him the No. 1 overall fantasy asset right now…Over the first three quarters in games this season, the Lions have scored a total of 89 points. They have scored 114 points in the fourth quarter/overtime. Time to get in character for another week. The ranks in this exercise are not Week 10 fantasy ranks; instead, we're trying to arrange the players based on what we expect from Weeks 10-16. Assume a standard scoring format (non-PPR), and remember the golden rule: no one gains 10-20 percent of bonus value just because they're on your roster.
That established, if you logically construct a sound argument, I'm all ears. I'll add comments, and tweak a rank or two, as the night goes along. It's quarterbacks and wideouts this week; running backs and tight ends get the floor next week.

Monday Brunch: How soon is now for C.J. Spiller?
Source: Roto Arcade by Scott Pianowski
With just about nine weeks of NFL action in the books, it's clear just two men in the league can stop Buffalo dynamo C.J. Spiller.
Fred Jackson and Chan Gailey, come on down.
I don't have any personal stake in Spiller this year, a major regret. I ranked him after Jackson in the summer. I didn't land No. 28 on any of my teams. I've got nothing to gain from Spiller taking on a bigger role in the Buffalo offense, other than I like to root for logic to win out.
And it's clearly time for the Bills to do the logical thing, to turn their offense over to Spiller. The tape shows it, the stat sheet shows it, and even the quotes from Buffalo are starting to trend that way.

On Sunday, when Brian Urlacher broke the plane on this 46-yard interception return, the Chicago Bears had their seventh such touchdown of 2012, in just their eighth game — which is, of course, ridiculous. The single-season NFL/AFL team record for pick-sixes is nine, set by the 1961 San Diego Chargers. If you want to exclude AFL marks, then the 1998 Seattle Seahawks hold the record with eight.
Chicago's defense also scored on a blocked punt in Week 9, as Sherrick McManis snuffed out a first quarter kick, then Corey Wootton scooped it up plodded into the end zone.
