When Mr. Irrelevant, South Carolina tight end Justice Cunningham, had his name called in front of a small group of reasonably sauced lingerers at last month’s NFL Draft, Fantasyland’s finest quickly began formulating thoughts and assembling cheat sheets for this year’s fake football drafts.
Mock season officially kicked off …
Over the next several weeks, armchair quarterbacks of various backgrounds will hone their draft skills in preparation for main events come August. During these exercises, participants will tinker with new strategies, rack their brains over complicated backfields and shout out expletives when desired players are pilfered just before their pick, all the while proclaiming

Browns HC Rob Chudzinski believes TE Jordan Cameron is a good fit in the offense. “This is an offense that has featured tight ends and tight ends have always been a big part of it,” Chud said. “He has the skill set that fits.” Cameron has intriguing physical ability as a 6'4, 245-pound former basketball player. And he's in an offense led by a couple of guys with a history of getting big-time production from the TE position (Chudzinski with Kellen Winslow, Antonio Gates and Greg Olsen; and OC Norv Turner with Jay Novacek, Vernon Davis and Gates). Cameron is short on production -- just 16 career college catches and 26 in the NFL -- but 2013 could be a breakout year. He'll be worth targeting as a sleeper in the later

Jordan Cameron) stands to benefit from the change in coaches and offensive systems. Head coach Rob Chudzinski, a former college tight end and Browns tight ends coach, and coordinator Norv Turner, intend to develop Cameron into the next tight end to make plays, not just catches. (

When it comes to rookies conventional wisdom no longer applies. With a few notable exceptions, most first-year players, particularly quarterbacks, were once thought to be multi-year projects, the Steve McNair approach – observe, learn and wait.
But in this day and age where instant gratification is constantly sought after, time isn’t of the essence. Several players picked in April are immediately pressed into competitive situations where often times they emerge as the go-to option, evident in the rapid ascension of guys like Robert Griffin III, Doug Martin and Josh Gordon, to name a few, last year. Because nuances from the college game are commonplace

Cleveland Browns TE Jordan Cameron is expected to serve as the No. 1 tight end in head coach Rob Chudzinski's offense, and the position is very busy in the team's new scheme. "Well he's not ready right now, we are working through that with him," Chudzinski said Wednesday, April 17. "He is learning the offense obviously. This is an offense that has featured tight ends and tight ends have always been a big part of it. He has the skill set that fits and he has had a good couple days."
Huddle Up: Chudzinski is a former tight end and tight ends coach, and his offenses have tended to feature the position--most recently Greg Olsen in Carolina. Cameron has the physical tools to create mismatch problems at the tight end position,

Huddle Up: The Panthers have cap issues, so Olsen is taking one for the team to help Carolina get under the cap. Olsen also lost a bit of value (and leverage) when offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski, known for his work with tight ends, left to become the Browns' head coach.

Panthers TE Greg Olsen became the 4th Carolina player to restructure this offseason. His money shift leaves the team about $6..6 million over the cap, according to the Charlotte Observer. But the Panthers are still expected to cut CB Chris Gamble and DT Ron Edwards. Those moves would free up $10.4 million against the cap, thus getting Carolina under the spending limit. Fantasy football owners couldn't care much less what Olsen or any other Panther is making. But Carolina is about to get under the cap without dumping RB DeAngelo Williams. His contract still far exceeds his value to the team, but that was true when he signed it. As a fantasy player, you should hope that Williams heads elsewhere. That could enable him and Jonathan Stewart

New Browns coach Rob Chudzinski likes to use his tight ends in the offense, and right now Jordan Cameron is the only tight end on the roster. The team wants more depth at the position. Some potential targets might be impending free-agent TEs Dustin Keller, Fred Davis or Delanie Walker.
Huddle Up: Chud is a tight end guy; look no further than Greg Olsen's season in Carolina last year with Chudzinski as OC for proof. From a very early age I've always been a list-driven person. I probably checked out Phil Pepe's "The Sports Book of Lists" from my local library 8-10 times as a kid. And I loved the Top 5-driven theme of High Fidelity, a theme I'm going to shamelessly borrow in this exercise.
Keep in mind there's no preferred order with these Top 5 lists unless specifically noted, and also accept that this is one of the most subjective of undertakings. So you like different football players or music or movies than I do? It's all good. There's no problem. That's the fun of it, the disagreements.

For the first time in the fantasy era, a pair of tight ends were weighed by drafters at the Round 1 turn. In the eyes of millions, Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham, off historic 2012 campaigns, were position titans equal to or better than some of the virtual game's most established wide receivers. Unfortunately, injuries and inconsistency hindered the duo in the follow-up. Overall, after a year of unprecedented production, the position as a whole slipped. Though still deep, only four TEs finished the season with at least 120 total points in traditional formats, the lowest total since 2008. Below is our recap of this season's TE flames and lames with a quick look at what notable names could

I was knocked out of my highest priority league last week because I made the wrong choice at QB between Andrew Luck and Colin Kaepernick. It was the second week in a row that I made the wrong choice, and it was the umpteenth reminder that I really hate not having one franchise QB that I simply never have to think about benching — there's maybe 6-7 of them, with Luck just missing that elite cut. At any rate, I still have a couple other dogs in the hunt among all my leagues, but as I pointed out with the Luck/Kaepernick example, one wrong move can provide a swift ending to the '12 season. Should I go with Brandon Weeden or Ben Roethlisberger? Steve Smith or Owen Daniels? You might be able to win a championship even if you don't make all

Outside of Jimmy Graham, Tony Gonzalez, Aaron Hernandez and Jason Witten it’s starting to get ugly at the tight end position for fantasy options. Super star names like Vernon Davis and Antonio Gates continue to play way below the expectations we have for them, while other options like Kyle Rudolph and Brandon Myers have good games then disappear for a week or two.
After the top names, look to Jermaine Gresham as the most reliable player for production. For the first time last week Gresham has had at least 43-yards in a game or he’s made up for it with a touchdown in the past six straight weeks.
Cincinnati is still pushing for the playoffs

The Raiders are horrible and changes will be coming in Oakland soon after the season is over, once again. For all the problems this team is having there is one man who won’t let this team down, nor his fantasy owners and that is Brandon Myers. So much for Vernon Davis struggling without Alex Smith. Second-year quarterback Colin Kaepernick was terrific in his first start of his career on Monday night, and Davis was clearly featured in the offense. What has been another up and down season for Davis in terms of his stats, should turn into two solid performances in a row as San Francisco heads out to New Orleans this week.
While we shouldn’t expect the type of numbers Davis up against the Saints in the playoffs last year, consider him a lock to at least repeat the production he put up against the Bears, whether Kaepernick or Smith start at quarterback.

Someone in Cincinnati needs to step up as a consistent No.2 option in the passing game. While Jermaine Gresham has the ability to be that option, he needs to show us he can put together consistent numbers.
Three weeks ago Gresham had 68 yards and a score, only to go for 19 yards before the teams bye week. Gresham bounced back against the Broncos with six receptions for 108 yards and for the second time in three weeks, he has a play of over 50 yards.
Because of the way the Bengals are structured as a team, Gresham should continue to benefit from the Bengals finding themselves in pass heavy situations weekly. Consider Gresham a low-end TE1 going forward, even if

Everybody hurts, sometimes. Here's the 1.0 volume of the Wrap; we'll update the file a few times during the day as more news is available.
• Jonathan Dwyer looked terrific in his last couple of games but he might not be healthy enough to matter this week. Dwyer is dealing with a sore quad and had limited practices Thursday and Friday; it doesn't sound like he'll play this week. With Rashard Mendenhall also out, look for Isaac Redman to get the start Sunday against the Giants. (This also looks like a week where Ben Roethlisberger and Co. will chuck it all over the yard; have

In the world of spies, they mock what they don't understand. In the world of fantasy, we want to understand, so we mock.
Truth be told, this 220-pick exercise wasn't really a mock — it's a real thing. I assembled 10 of my flatliner roto friends (industry and non-industry folks included) and we're all standing behind our teams. While we won't do any maintenance to the rosters we drafted Tuesday night, we are keeping score and we are playing for a financial stake. If you can't go full out, why go at all?
We'll use best-ball scoring to determine the winners; everyone will have their best theoretical score assigned to them after each go-round. It's a total-points grab, there are no head-to-head games. We're using the

A couple of my fantasy teams are fairly sunk at this point. The common thread(s) between these teams are Pierre Garcon, Jonathan Stewart and Antonio Gates — a more miserable combination of mid-round draft picks you probably couldn't have made this past draft season. They might all still have their shining moment in '12 (if you don't count the first eight minutes of the season for Garcon), but it'll be too late for most anyone that heavily invested in them. It's pretty hard to be successful through the bye season when you miss on your RB3 and WR3, and also buy earlier than most on a tight end that hasn't panned out to this point. I'm guessing I'll probably diversify my portfolio a little more in next year's drafts. But at least I still

Brandon Myers only received three targets against the Chiefs but credit his light usage to the Raiders posting a rare big lead on their opponent. On the other hand, Myers did made the most of his opportunities with three receptions for 49 yards on the day.
While Denarius Moore is starting to emerge as the Raiders top receiver and Darrius Heyward-Bey has successfully returned from a scary hit leading to a concussion back in September, the Raiders are still in need of help in the passing game.
Myers has decent skills and should continue to be Carson Palmer’s favorite target over the middle of the field. He’s capable of more and we should look to Myers as a

Almost two months into the season, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at a breakdown of targets over the past month of the season. NFL teams tend to scout an upcoming opponent in the four previous games they’ve played before they face them. It’s a good way to track what’s going on, numbers wise, from a game plan standpoint for your fantasy options.
Larry Fitzgerald Top Dog In Targets Over Past Month
One would think John Skelton returning to the starting lineup would be a good thing for Larry Fitzgerald but against the Vikings that wasn’t the case. No receiver has more targets over the past four weeks than Fitzgerald but most
