Huddle Up: Jernigan, a third-round pick in 2011, has a total of 3 receptions for 22 yards in 2 NFL seasons, but now moves up on the depth chart with Domenik Hixon and Ramses Barden gone. However, as a long as Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks are still occupying the top spots and remain reasonably healthy, Jernigan's fantasy upside is limited.

Huddle Up: Murphy feels like Victor Cruz insurance. If Cruz returns, Murphy is fighting Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, and Rueben Randle for snaps. Now if the Giants opt not to re-sign Cruz, or Cruz holds out, then Murphy's blip on the fantasy radar gets a little bit brighter.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks called this offseason's left knee surgery a "minor procedure."  He hopes to be a "full-go" by training camp.  That seems like an attainable goal.  Nicks has been running full speed since early April.  That's included running routes for QB Eli Manning.  Barring a setback, Nicks should be 100% when training camp gets going.  It's unclear how much he'll do until then, though.  It'd be nice if he could have a full offseason one of these years.  Nicks is still only 25 with plenty of room for growth.  We'll continue to monitor his status.

Giants WR Hakeem Nicks says he's been running full speed for a couple of weeks now.  He worked out with QB Eli Manning at Duke last week.  Nicks was plagued by foot and knee problems throughout 2012.  He underwent surgery on the knee after the season.  It sounds like he'll be a full-go for the offseason program.  Still, Nicks needs to be considered an injury-risk in fantasy drafts this summer.  He's missed 9 games over his first 4 NFL campaigns.  Nicks also carries plenty of upside, though.  He was a top 12 fantasy WR in both 2010 and 2011, despite missing time with injuries.

New York Giants restricted free-agent WR Victor Cruz has been catching passes from QB Eli Manning this week. Cruz is hoping to sign a long-term contract extension with the team to remain one of Manning's favorite targets. The Giants have until April 19 to make a contract offer to Cruz if another team wants to make a run at Cruz. New York would receive a first-round pick as compensation if they can't match another team's offer. Manning also worked out with WRs Hakeem Nicks and Louis Murphy.
Huddle Up: Giants fans are skittish as long as Cruz hasn't inked a long-term deal to remain in blue, but the fact that he's working out with the team's franchise quarterback should indicate his intention is to remain with the Giants.

The Panthers might have found their new No. 2 wide receiver today. They signed former Giant Domenik Hixon to a one-year deal. Contract terms have not yet been made available. Hixon, 28, has spent the majority of his career on special teams as a returner, but he has been called into duty as a wideout every now and then. Last season, after Hakeem Nicks was forced to miss some time with a foot injury, Hixon picked up the slack. His standout performance came in Week 4 as he caught six passes for 114 yards. He finished the year with 39 receptions in 13 games for 567 yards. FANTASY ANALYSIS: It's not like the Panthers are absolutely stacked at WR. Past Steve Smith, you've got the always-mediocre Brandon LaFell and a bunch of lottery tickets.

The soon-to-be 26-year-old caught just 25 passes for 336 yards and a TD with the Panthers last year after 3 seasons in Oakland. Murphy is merely a depth signing with no fantasy relevance unless someone in front of him gets hurt. (Of course, that's always a good possibility when Hakeem Nicks is involved.) Murphy's arrival also likely signals that the Giants don't expect to retain Ramses Barden or Domenik Hixon. Both are free agents.

Giants insider Jenny Vrentas has learned that WR Hakeem Nicks' recent surgery was on his left knee.  That knee was originally injured in Week 2 and nagged Nicks all season long.  It was reportedly an injury that needed 6-8 weeks to heal, but Nicks ended up sitting out just 2 games.  Give him credit for gutting it out, but his explosion was obviously sapped.  His 13.1 yards per catch was almost 2 yards less than he averaged across his first 3 seasons.  Nicks' health will be worth monitoring closely this offseason.  He's still a WR1 in fantasy when at 100%.

Giants HC Tom Coughlin revealed that WR Hakeem Nicks has "had a scope" since the season ended.  He refused to provide any further details.  The surgery was almost certainly on either the foot or knee that nagged Nicks year.  The term "scope" usually hints at a minor procedure, so Nicks' offseason routine shouldn't be affected too much.  Durability remains a major issue though -- especially with his lower extremities.

Michael Eisen of Giants.com confirms that Rueben Randle is the "heavy favorite" to be the team's #3 WR this coming season.  Domenik Hixon handled that role for most of 2012, but he's a free-agent this offseason.  Randle should be an upgrade anyways.  The 2nd-round pick drew rave reviews last offseason but finished with just 298 yards and 3 TDs.  He averaged 18.6 yards per catch, though, and finished with a 4-58-2 line against the Eagles in Week 17.  Randle is worth monitoring closely this offseason -- and a guy to roster in dynasty and keeper leagues.  He has the size and skill-set to be an NFL starter.  And the Giants might not have the cap space to retain both Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz long term.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, a new long-term deal for WR Hakeem Nicks is one of the Giants' top priorities this offseason.  Nicks has 1 year left on his rookie deal.  That the G-Men want to lock him up isn't a surprise.  But what is surprising is that Nicks is considered a "higher priority" than restricted free-agent Victor Cruz.  Despite a disappointing 2012 season that saw him miss 4 games and finish with career lows in yards (692) and TDs (3), the Giants still view Nicks as a "legitimate #1 receiver."  Consider it a reminder of his fantasy upside in 2013 and beyond.  Nicks has has trouble staying healthy but is a potential top 10 guy whenever he's on the field.
