Mostly MLB Notes: Albert Pujols’ decline, Carlos Santana’s emergence and examining David Price
Source: Roto Arcade by Dalton Del Don
We held a mid-season draft Monday, and I ended up taking Albert Pujols with the 19th pick. Judging by Yahoo’s updated rest of season rankings, I guess this could be considered something of a reach. I’m not necessarily going to argue against that, but it’s remarkable someone who was a unanimous top-three pick last year and was generally considered a top-10 pick this year is now a
Fantasy do-over: Auditing results from an in-season experts draft

At the risk of tearing down the entire "fantasy expert" scam, we begin today with an admission: Occasionally, fantasy gurus get stuff wrong.
It's rare, but it happens. Back in March, it's possible that some of us led you to believe Roy Halladay was salvageable and that Adam Dunn was not terrible at baseball. We apologize for these misunderstandings.
With six weeks of MLB data in the books, it's time to reassess the player pool. We've assembled a group of 10 experts for an in-season baseball draft. The league settings are fairly standard: 5x5, mixed player pool, CI & MI, head-to-head, weekly lineups. Nothing too exotic.

When it comes to fake baseball, the outfield is where the fun is. The first couple of rounds will always include some of these stat-grabbing giants, and yet the waiver wire in an average mixer consistently offers something for the discerning shopper. Add it all up and there's a lot to digest.
The prices you see in this piece are roughly how I rank the roto-eligible outfielders going forward. What we've seen to this point is merely an audition; if you want a list of the top players to this point, there are plenty of places you can access that.
Don't obsess over the prices in a vacuum: what really matters is how the players relate to one another. Assume a 5x5 scoring format, as always, and players at the same price

The outfield is the fun place to go shopping in fantasy baseball. Power, sure, you'll find it here. Plenty of guys run. A few players do everything. And the two most exciting young position players in the game happen to reside here, too. Everyone likes picking out their outfield.
The goal today is to rank all the mixed-league worthy outfielders going forward in 5x5 fantasy value, 2013 only. Don't read too much into the dollar values in a vacuum - they're merely used as a tool to compare players. And when commodities share the same price, they're considered even. (Players on the DL and minor-league prospects are not eligible for ranking.)
I reserve the right to tweak this list as the day goes along,

Pressing Questions: The San Francisco Giants
Source: Roto Arcade by Dalton Del Don
The Giants improbably won their second World Series over the past three years in 2012, once again riding strong pitching and terrific defense in the postseason. They did so despite being down 2-0 against the Reds while heading to play the next three games in Cincinnati and then down 3-1 against the Cardinals in the NLCS, only to outscore their opponents 36-7 over the next seven games – all wins. San Francisco became champs while hitting by far the fewest home runs in major league baseball, although that had plenty to do with AT&T Park, which had the lowest HR Park Factor (0.522) of any stadium since 2002.
The Giants somehow won the World Series despite Tim Lincecum finishing with a 5.18 ERA,

There are established veterans with lengthy track records, and young players on the cusp of becoming superstars. Oh, and the position is also home to two players who are going one and two overall in many fantasy drafts.

When Hunter Pence arrived in San Francisco after being traded from the Phillies, he received a hero's welcome. Seriously, I was watching the post-game show the night Pence landed for the first time in SF to meet his new teammates. The Giants broadcast crew treated him like he was the President, tracking him everywhere with cameras and hounding him for short sound bytes. You couldn't blame the Giants for being desperate for Pence's production, though. At that point in the season, on August 1, they hardly looked like the Championship

Throw Robert Griffin's stat line completely out the window, as Washington receivers committed at least 10 drops, and that's no exaggeration. It's not often you see a quarterback commit pass interference, but so was the case with RG3 on Sunday…Heath Miller is on pace to finish with fewer than 800 yards, but thanks to nine targets inside the 10-yard line (more than any other receiver in football), he has six touchdowns and has been the No. 3 fantasy tight end so far this year…Did you see Antonio Brown run backward for the final 20

Starlin Castro – In the crazy town of Chicago, this 22-year-old shortstop certainly has the gift of game. He has been approaching the level of top tier at his position, but this has as much to do with his upside as the general lack of talent among other shortstops in the league. Looking at his 2012 season, it could very well be interpreted as a disappointment due to his drop in batting average, on base percentage, and slugging. To contrast, he has already reached a career high in home runs and should do the same in stolen bases. On the surface, his strikeout rate and frequency of pitches outside of the strike zone that he is swinging at have both increased, a potential cause for concern. However, when combined with

Sleepers: Domonic Brown
Source: Sporting News Fantasy Source Baseball
When a former top prospect starts heating up, fantasy owners should start paying attention -- at least more than the mere 4 percent of Yahoo! owners who are warming up to the Phillies' Domonic Brown.
Brown went 2-for-4 with a double and his first homer of 2012 on Wednesday, giving him a modest four-game hitting streak. That might not be all that exciting in itself, but Brown is 7-for-15 (.467) with seven RBIs and four extra-base hits in that short stretch.
That's a positive power development for the 6-5, 200-pound outfielder, who hasn't lived up to the hype in the majors yet. Another reason to be optimistic about Brown's developmental path is his 9-9 K-to-BB ratio in 88 plate appearances since being recalled

The Pittsburgh Pirates, second in the National League Central were in the unusual position of actually not being sellers in late July. DEMPSTER TO RANGERS. After flirting with seemingly every contender in baseball, the Chicago Cubs traded Ryan Dempster to the Texas Rangers.
The veteran pitcher is enjoying a career year with a 2.25 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, and the move to Texas should give him a chance for more wins.
That is, if he can handle the pressure. The Rangers clearly are looking for a pitcher they can trust in the postseason, and Dempster has pitched in just two postseason games, both during his time with Chicago.
It's better to gauge what Dempster can give owners for the next two months. A look at his line over the past three years in August (9-5, 3.47 ERA, 99 Ks) and September (6-7, 3.42 ERA, 95 Ks) suggests he'll
