Alright, gamers, this is the one Shuffle Up that matters the most. If you could consistently figure out the fickle sighs and signs of these sirens, everything else would be a breeze.
Our goal is to rank all the roto-relevant starting pitchers for the rest of 2013, thinking 5x5 value in a mixed league. The prices are used for comparison tools; don't worry about the numbers in a vacuum. Players at the same cost are considered even.
I'll add commentary later today and I welcome your intelligent disagreement. Win the debate, win the rank. But remember to support your dissent, and never forget the golden rule of roto: a player doesn't gain (or lose) 15-20 percent of bonus value simply because you're

[player]Daniel Descalso[/player] is in questioning about the murder. Let's go back now, and take a moment and recount the life of Ian Kennedy's fastball. It originally came up in the Yankee organization, where it showed promise, but one two many times it was left out over the plate and hitters clobbered it. They didn't quite murder it like last night. No, that was saved for a balmy night in St. Louis. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kennedy family. Wait, now I understand they are transporting Daniel

Source: SI.com
We've seen our fair share of odd injuries this season, from Zack Greinke breaking his clavicle during a brawl against the Padres to Bryce Harper cutting his chin on the outfield wall. This past week brought two doozies: Boston's Clay Buchholz, who's 7-0 on the season, was scratched from his start Monday because of collarbone soreness that stemmed from falling asleep while cradling his daughter in his arm. Arizona's Ian Kennedy, meanwhile, also missed his scheduled Monday start after cutting his finger while washing dishes. Clearly, earning millions of dollars doesn't prevent baseball players from suffering the bizarre injuries that befall most other humans. Here's the latest injury news:Pitcher Profile: Tyler Skaggs Debuts A Memorial Curveball

After an underwhelming cup of coffee last year, [player]Tyler Skaggs[/player] looked primed for the 5th spot in the Diamondbacks rotation, only to lose out to [player]Patrick Corbin[/player]. I remember there was some dissension with that decision, but you don't hear any of those arguments now! With Corbin obviously one of the biggest surprises of the season, Skaggs had a really rough start to his AAA assignment with his ERA climbing close to 7.00 through six starts, but then again it was with Reno in the Pacific Coast League. Skaggs has put it together recently though, racking up a 30:5 K:BB ratio in 25.1 May innings and three straight quality starts.

Alright, gamers, settle in and let's get to work. Of all the baseball shuffles, this is the one that really matters: the starting pitcher shuffle. The fickle men of the mound are sure to define our season, for good or for bad.
We're trying to gauge everyone's 5x5 value going forward - everything to this point is merely an audition. We're only playing for 2013 here, and we're assuming a mixed-league environment. Source: Roto Arcade by Brad Evans
Youth is often unreliable. Last year, the Diamondbacks learned the hard way.
After Arizona shocked the baseball world in 2011, taking the NL West crown, expectations were relatively high for a strong encore. Instead, Kirk Gibson's club straddled the fence, splitting its 162 game slate straight down the middle (81-81). Early season physical setbacks to Chris Young and Daniel Hudson combined with Justin Upton's dramatic power outage, likely a consequence of a thumb injury suffered in April, explained the team's ordinariness.
Unhappy with last year's mediocrity, GM Kevin Towers has racked up the cell phone minutes this offseason. Young was sent packing to Oakland in

So, how’s everyone holding up without fantasy baseball every day? I don’t know what to do with myself! I don't know that there's a best way to present the final 10 days of the regular season, but this is how we'll look at it.
In this post is a listing, and ranking, of every pitcher slated to work twice over the final 10 days of the season. It's as tentative as tentative can be. Some contending clubs will get ready for the post-season once a spot is secured (and maybe go easy on stars). Some non-contenders might shift into shutdown mode. The Tigers playoffs hopes just took a shot in the lower extremities. Now if they get to the playoffs, they’ll have to pitch Verlander 4 times in a 5 game series with Miggy pitching the other game. That’s not our concern though, is it? Of course, it isn’t. Our concern is on the fantasy diamond, which is also what you proposed to your baby’s mama with. ”Shizz is on layaway, baby, you know I got you when my checks come in. Sorry There Ol’ Chapman
Source: Razzball by grey@razzball.com (Grey Albright)
Aroldis Chapman is being shut down ‘for a couple of days’ with shoulder fatigue. Dusty actually admitted ”We’re lucky we got to this point” which made every Cub fan both nod and shake their heads. To be fair to Dusty, his usage of Chapman seems reasonable. 64G/67 IP this year after 54 G/50 IP last year does not seem abusive. Perhaps hurling a ball 100 MPH isn’t good for your arm. In Chapman’s stead, Jonathon Broxton picked up the save. Broxton should feel comfortable pitching for Dusty as he had the ultimate ‘pen melter in Joe Torre as a coach for 5 years (his 2007 usage – 83 G / 82 IP – makes my arm hurt). Broxton is a must-own as I think it’s likely that Chapman is shut down for

Just in time for the H2H playoffs, Troy Tulowitzki returns to throw a quandary into your lineup. Do you bench a guy that has actually been performing for a guy that hasn’t done anything this year and is coming back from an injury? Let’s answer that question with other questions. Do the Rockies start Tulo in every game risking injury? Do they have aspirations of moving up to finish with a slightly better record while still coming in last? Do the Rockies risk next year for that? Why is Tulo even coming back at all? Are all planets round or are there some, say, triangle planets? Are the Rockies trying to boost his value for an offseason trade? What is the point of him returning? If with age comes

I have no clue on how to pronounce it, but it has 14 ‘u’s’, 8 apostrophe’s and 1 consonant. So your guess is as good as mine. The actual Span that we talked about, however, appears to have become a dish full of meh. I did see an ample opportunity to capitalize on some stats in multiple categories for the week 20 scoring period. That's Detroit starter Doug Fister pictured above, auditioning for another turn in your fake team's rotation. He's still available in a significant percentage of Yahoo! leagues (45 as of this writing) and he's coming off back-to-back excellent efforts. Just check the game log. Fister has struck out 18 batters over his last two appearances, walking just two and allowing only five hits and two runs.
No, this hasn't been a stellar season thus far for the right-hander — he's visited the DL twice and his ERA is 4.04. But when we toss his stats in the SABR-a-tor, it spits out a not-terrible result (3.16 xFIP).

Source: Razzball by grey@razzball.com (Grey Albright)
It’s not the Year of the Tiger, but don’t tell Doug Fister that. And don’t ask Mr. Fister to sing Kyrie, because that song kills kittens. Fact! He just followed up a strong start @BAL with a dominating performance against the T & T Angels: 8 IP, 10K, 1 ER, 4 baserunners. It’s like September 2011 all over again. I can’t wait to see that Straw Dogs remake! Ever since Fister’s become a Tiger, he went from a pitcher with great control (generally less than 2 BB/9) and pathetic K-rates to one with great control and very good K-rates. As long as Fister stays healthy and manages anything over a 7 K/9 rate, he’s a top 25 pitcher. Worst case, you can at least make fun puns with his last name.

As far as starts at Yankee Stadium go, this one could have been a lot worse. If you had the cajones to start him at least you got a win and 5 Ks. I still like Quintana a lot, but I’d steer clear of his start vs. Texas next week. Quintana aside, it was the White Sox offense that were the real stars last night and got Jose the win. A.J.
