Green Bay Packers have battle for #4 WR spot
Source: Draft Sharks
Packers beat writer Tyler Dunne sees “a wide open competition” for the 4th spot on the WR depth chart. The departure of Greg Jennings leaves Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson and James Jones atop the ranks. But in the Packers' prolific offense, the #4 spot is worth monitoring. Dunne sees 2nd-year-man Jarrett Boykin battling with rookie 7th-rounders Kevin Dorsey and Charles Johnson for that honor. Johnson is easily the most intriguing of the bunch. The 24-year-old racked up 72 grabs for 1,200 yards and 16 TDs at tiny Grand Valley state last season. He goes 6’2, 215 pounds and ran a 4.38 40-yard dash. He'll likely need some seasoning at the next level but could be a deep sleeper if he grabs that #4 WR job.

The Vikings, ever so desperate for a skilled wide receiver following the trade of Percy Harvin, have their man. Former Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings signed with Green Bay's NFC North rival on Friday. Jennings signed a five-year contract with Minnesota that will last through his age-34 season.
Jennings played in every game from 2008-10 and was one of the league's most productive wideouts. But he has battled injuries in recent years. The Green Bay Packers are still mulling using the franchise tag on impending free-agent WR Greg Jennings before the deadline to use the tag Monday, March 4. General manager Ted Thompson said at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team would like to retain Jennings.
Huddle Up: Fantasy owners of James Jones and Randall Cobb would prefer to see Jennings elsewhere, but Jennings couldn't ask for a better quarterback to be throwing the ball to him than Aaron Rodgers. However, Jennings' fantasy numbers might be better as an unchallenged WR1 elsewhere, depending on where he lands.

Packers WR James Jones can do simple math. He believes the subtraction of free-agent WR Greg Jennings will mean the addition of more targets in 2013. "It's exciting because it means more opportunities," Jones said. His 98 targets this past season were a career high. But Jennings didn't impact Jones' workload. Jones saw 49 targets in the 8 games Jennings played, and 49 targets in the 8 games he missed. With Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb still around, Jones' target upside is capped. And while he should improve upon last year's 12.3 yards-per-catch average in 2013, he's unlikely to match the 14 scores. We'd bet against him matching last year's 16th-place fantasy finish -- despite the departure of Jennings.

Packers WR Jordy Nelson was clearly limited in the team's win over the Vikings on Saturday night. He played just 19 of 68 offensive snaps, finishing with 3 catches on 6 targets for 51 yards. It's unclear how much the reduced playing time had to do with Nelson's bum knee -- and how much had to do with the recent play of Greg Jennings, James Jones, and Randall Cobb. We'll keep an eye on Nelson's practice reps this week, but he's shaping up as a risk/reward fantasy play for this weekend's game against the 49ers.

Among the more intriguing are three rookie quarterbacks, one of whom is guaranteed to win a playoff game in their first year; a second year quarterback who took over in week ten; a Colt’s team who went from worst last year to a playoff team this year, riding an emotional high after the return of their head coach from a successful bout against leukemia; and a team that went from the favorite for a first round bye to the number three seed in a few short weeks.
These are the overall rankings for the playoffs. Some formats require you to choose from all the teams in the playoffs, others allow you to go week to week. These

Perhaps the dumbest thing a fantasy manager can possibly do is publish player ranks on a mainstream sports site on the morning of a draft. Definitely not recommended. Poor strategy, requiring a special combination of stupidity and hubris. Far from ideal.
Nonetheless, I'm doing it today. My first fantasy playoff draft is coming up in just a few short hours, and I'm publishing ranks in advance. (Again: Unwise). So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

Many offensive coordinators had their head in the clouds again this season, evident in the pass-first mentality most teams portrayed. As a result, pass catchers, unsurprisingly identical to quarterbacks, experienced unprecedented fantasy success. In total, 19 wide receivers averaged at least 10.0 points per game in standard formats, up one from last year and four more than five years ago. The usual suspects dotted the landscape, but several newcomers (e.g. Randall Cobb and Eric Decker) made their mark as well. It's not looking good for Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson and running back Alex Green in Week 16. Both players have yet to practice this week, and that didn't change on Thursday. Nelson was left to do only some running drills on the side during Thursday's session. He has been out of action since Week 13 due to a hamstring injury.
Green has a concussion and has yet been cleared to practice. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Barring some big change, I don't think either of these players suit up against the Titans this weekend. The Packers' offense has been OK without Nelson, and the fantasy impact here is that

Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.

Early signs in the off-season suggested this could be a breakout year for Crabtree, if for no other reason than he finally overcame his problematic foot issues.
For the first-time Crabtree actually played in a preseason game this August, and thankfully his foot ailments appear to be a thing of the past.
The best thing that ever happened for Crabtree was Alex Smith’s demotion in the middle of the season. It’s not that Crabtree and Smith weren’t having success together, but more that Colin Kaepernick has the

OK, maybe you personally were smart enough (or needy enough) to start James Jones in Week 15. If so, congrats. You're getting a huge day from No. 89.
However, plenty of Jones' owners are staring at this nonsense on their fantasy bench right now...
...and they're sick about it.
Jones is rostered in 83 percent of Yahoo! leagues, but he was only 32 percent started in Week 15. There's basically nothing worse than leaving a monster stat line on your bench in the playoffs, so I'm not going to twist the knife here. (Plus I'm a Bears fan, so I'm hurting enough already). Let's simply note that Jones is beasting this week in Jordy Nelson's absence.

It comes as no shock, but the Packers have ruled out wide receiver Jordy Nelson for Sunday's game against the Bears. This will be Nelson's second straight missed game and his third missed this year due to a strained hamstring. The Packers will move forward with Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings and
James Jones as Aaron Rodgers' top three targets on the outside. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Head coach Mike McCarthy called Nelson a quot;longshot" to play in this game earlier in the week, so he's probably not a great bet to play next week versus the Titans either. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Cobb is a must-start this weekend, even against the Bears' defense in Chicago.
James Jones is way too up and down to trust. I do want to trust Greg

Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bears. He was unable to practice all week and should be considered iffy for Week 16. Meanwhile, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, and James Jones will continue to serve as Green Bay's top 3 WRs.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy called WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) a "long shot" to play against the Bears after he was unable to practice on Wednesday. It's disappointing after McCarthy sounded more optimistic earlier this week. Nelson needs to be on fantasy benches for Week 15. Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, and James Jones will once again serve as Green Bay's top 3 WRs.

Heading into the second week of the fantasy playoffs, I can understand if fantasy owners are down on those players who failed to help them last week. However, one bad game doesn’t mean a player is going to let you down again this week. While rookie Bryce Brown struggled against the No.1 defense in the league against the run, expect a bounce back performance as the Eagles return home for a Thursday night matchup against the Bengals.

The Chargers finally picked up a win and did so against a playoff caliber team, on the road. While Danario Alexander started off slow, he eventually had his way with the Steelers secondary picking up seven receptions for 88-yards and two touchdowns.
Alexander has done a terrific job in the short passing game, crossing routes and big plays down the field. Those of you that watched the Chargers play the Steelers on Sunday also know he has terrific balance and body control when going up in the air on 50/50 balls against a defender. This makes him a dangerous man inside the red zone and like his first touchdown, his body control around the sidelines allowed him to leap

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 14 after missing practice all week. The team hopes to have Nelson return in Week 15 against the Chicago Bears. Meanwhile, the Packers also have ruled out RB James Starks (knee), DE C.J. Wilson (knee), LB Clay Matthews (hamstring) and CB Charles Woodson (collarbone).
Huddle Up: This will be Nelson's third missed game in the past 6 weeks, and in the other 3, fantasy owners didn't get a whole lot out of the wideout, who totaled 6 catches, 126 yards and a TD. The news isn't nearly as grim for the fantasy owners of Aaron Rodgers, who still has Greg Jennings, Randall Cobb and James Jones to throw to.

Packers WR Jordy Nelson to miss another game due to hamstring injury

For the second time this season, Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson will have to sit down on game day because of a hamstring strain. Nelson suffered the injury in Week 13 and didn't practice at all this week. The Packers officially ruled him out on Friday. Nelson missed Week 8 versus the Jaguars because of a bum hamstring. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Lions are a great matchup for any passing offense, and I expect Aaron Rodgers to completely obliterate them Sunday night in Green Bay. I'm predicting at least four touchdown passes from him, especially since the Packers pretty much don't have a running game right now. While the Lions have given up multiple scores in a game to WRs just twice this year, that secondary got burnt by the likely of Donnie

As expected, Packers WR Jordy Nelson (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Lions. He didn't practice all week and never had a shot to play. Consider Nelson questionable for Week 15. Meanwhile, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings, and James Jones will serve as Green Bay's top 3 WRs in what should be a shootout.

After struggling through the first half of the season to pickup the teams new zone blocking scheme, Darren McFadden suffered another injury and for the 5th year in a row McFadden will now have missed at least four games. It just so happens that McFadden has only played five season in the league, so fantasy owners who drafted him this summer should have known the risk in taking him as a high round draft pick.
If you happen to be one of the luck fantasy owners that has survived McFadden’s bust season and still made the playoffs, this could be the time to cash in on what you hoped for all year.
While we don’t know what his workload with be this Thursday it
