Alex Green will be healthier this season

Packers RB Alex Green admits that he rushed back from his 2011 torn ACL this past season. He was never at 100%. "I came back, I got close to it, but once I got close, then I had a couple setbacks," Green said. "I was never really quite where I wanted to be, but I made great strides in the off-season. I'm definitely getting ready for this year." Green appeared in 12 games last year, averaging a miniscule 3.4 yards per carry. He was scratched for the Packers' playoff loss to the 49ers. With Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin added to the backfield, Green will be fighting for a roster spot with DuJuan Harris and James Starks. All 3 guys are off the fantasy radar at this point.

The Green Bay Packers went all-in at the running back position by selecting Alabama's Eddie Lacy and UCLA's Jonathan Franklin. The Pack may already have DuJuan Harris, Alex Green and
James Starks, but that doesn't mean the rookies don't factor into their immediate plans. In fact, Lacy has already told reporters he quot;expects to see work when the season starts." Green led the team in rushing yards last season with only 464 yards on 135 carries. Someone must emerge from the pack and provide the team some consistency and Lacy appears up for the challenge. FANTASY ANALYSIS: There are some concerns with Lacy's toe, which is rumored to have required a surgery while he was in college the could keep him in pain to some extent for the remainder

Green Bay Packers RB Eddie Lacy (toe) said he is ready to go and will be 100 percent entering camp. Teams shied away from drafting him early in the draft due to a toe fusion surgery.
Huddle Up: Lacy, the Packers' second-round pick, is the early favorite to win the Pack's starting job, provided he's healthy. If he's not, though, the team suddenly isn't lacking in RB options with fellow rookie Jonathan Franklin and holdovers James Starks and DuJuan Harris all vying for carries.

Even though the Packers had a huge need at running back, many people didn't think Eddie Lacy would be in play for Green Bay in the first round, because they don't have a history of taking running backs early. But what if that same first-round player falls to the back of the second round? It was too perfect for the Packers to pass up. They drafted Alabama running back Eddie Lacy with the 61st overall pick Friday. Concerns about hamstring and foot injuries helped push his stock down. FANTASY ANALYSIS: DuJuan Harris became an intriguing player last year, but Lacy should be the Packers' No. 1 RB by the start of the season. I think it will still be a split in some way, but he'll play the lead. It's an outstanding value pick. Lacy can be a

Last season began with Cedric Benson looking like a solid fantasy football sleeper as the starting running back of the Packers. This season, the Packers and fantasy owners could be in a similar position with another running back. Except this player is six years younger and 4 inches shorter. That would be DuJuan Harris, a second-year undrafted free agent who got his shot during the final month of the regular season and became the Packers' leading rusher, averaging more than four yards per carry and scoring four touchdowns in six games, including playoffs.
The Packers signed Harris to their practice squad in October, something that head coach Mike McCarthy wishes would have happened sooner.

The Packers don't believe RB Alex Green was ever at 100% this past season after suffering a torn ACL in September of 2011. "He was limited all through camp and really into the opening part of the season he was limited in practice reps, so that right there tells you it wasn’t 100 percent," RBs coach Alex Van Pelt said. “His knee wasn’t completely healed, so him battling through that I’m sure had something to do with it breaking down toward the end of the season.” Green actually led Green Bay in rushing in 2012 -- but that was with just 464 yards on a 3.4-yard average. We're not ready to throw in the towel here yet though. Green should regain explosion as he puts that knee injury further behind him. And he has a good

Green Bay Packers running backs coach Alex Van Pelt told the Green Bay Gazette that running back
James Starks is best-suited as a change-of-pace back. The Packers leaned heavily on Cedric Benson early in the season and relied on DuJuan Harris, Alex Green, and even Ryan Grant at different times during the 2012 season. This running back carosuel may appear like a depth-rich position, but the Packers left open the possiblity of drafting a workhorse back. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Grant is unlikely to return after being re-signed late in the year. Injuries were the main concern throughout the year as back after back was in and out of the starting lineup.
