DeAngelo Williams' final year in Carolina, the franchise's leading rusher has restructured his contract with the team. Williams, scheduled to earn $5 million in 2013 but carrying a cap hit of $8.2 million, will still earn the $5 million, but his cap number will reflect what he earns. (

The Panthers and RB DeAngelo Williams have agreed to a restructured contract. The new deal will reportedly save the team $3.2 million against the 2013 salary cap. Carolina will also save money in 2014 and 2015. Williams was a potential release candidate this summer, but the restructured contract will keep him around this season -- and maybe the following 2 seasons, too. It's bad news for RB Jonathan Stewart, who will continue to share the backfield with Williams. This past year, J-Stew averaged 10.3 carries and 37 rushing yards per game. Williams was at 10.8 carries and 46 yards. Both guys were outside the top-30 RBs in fantasy points per game.

The Carolina Panthers restructured RB DeAngelo Williams' contract. He was in the third season of a five-year, $43 million contract and was scheduled to earn $5 million with an $8.2 million salary cap number for 2013. Williams will still receive $5 million in cash this year, but the deal has been restructured in a way that reduces his cap number to $5 million, a cap savings of $3.2 million that leaves the team $8.46 million under their adjusted 2013 salary cap number of $126.232 million. Williams was scheduled to earn $4.75 million in non-guaranteed base salary with a $250,000 workout bonus this season. Under the renegotiated contract, Williams' base salary was lowered to $850,000 and his workout bonus reduced to $150,000. The remaining $4

In an interview on ESPN radio, Denver Broncos beat writer Mike Klis stated that he believed rookie RB Montee Ball could get around 225 carries in 2013. That would be the most carries by a rookie RB in the history of head coach John Fox.
Jonathan Stewart (Panthers)had 184 carries as a rookie under Fox in 2008.
Our View: The history of rookie RBs under John Fox is not kind. He tends to favor veterans over rookies but that may change this year in Denver. Fox said today of Ball "He's been very productive and really on all three downs. He's not just a first- and second-down power back. He's got the ability and you can see on tape him doing those things."

New Panthers GM Dave Gettleman offered this ringing endorsement on the radio Tuesday for RB DeAngelo Williams' status: "Right now, he's on the roster." As Pro Football Talk points out, Carolina could have released him already with the June 1 designation to spread out the cap hit. The fact he's still around suggests the team might just keep him. Then again, the Panthers drafted Oregon RB Kenjon Barner into an already-crowded backfield. They might still be hoping to trade Williams to a team that encounters an RB need. Fantasy owners would certainly love any move to take the shackles off RB Jonathan Stewart's significant upside.

Bernard had a hard upbringing as his mom passed away when he was a kid and he even lived with another family for a time, while his Dad went off to look for work.
I love this kid and his pass receiving skills will make him a start in PPR leagues. For now, he will have to play second fiddle to BenJarvus Green-Ellis, but expect the North Carolina star to take over the

Before we let sensationalism draw you into this piece, it should be made clear that DeAngelo Williams is still Carolina's No. 2 back behind
Jonathan Stewart. The point is though that the Panthers' general manager acknowledged that quot;anything's possible [and] the roster is fluid" after a discussion regarding the addition of rookie back Kenjon Barner out of Oregon. Williams had nearly 30 percent of his rushing yardage and 40 percent of his rushing TDs in the regular season finale against the Saints. Before that, he was on pace to have his worst full season since his rookie year. But the Panthers are still expected to cut CB Chris Gamble and DT Ron Edwards. Those moves would free up $10.4 million against the cap, thus getting Carolina under the spending limit. Fantasy football owners couldn't care much less what Olsen or any other Panther is making. But Carolina is about to get under the cap without dumping RB DeAngelo Williams. His contract still far exceeds his value to the team, but that was true when he signed it. As a fantasy player, you should hope that Williams heads elsewhere. According to the Charlotte Observer, a league source says the Panthers hope to keep RBs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. It's not a total surprise. The team did give Williams a big contract with Stewart already around. But it's simply a bad financial decision and unnecessary football move. Stewart is a terrific back when he's allowed to be. Mike Tolbert is plenty capable as a backup. And another body could be added via free agency or the draft's middle rounds. Williams remains a quality player as well, but he's aging and expensive. He'll turn 30 in April and carry an $8.2 million cap number into 2013. Dumping that would provide a lot of relief to a team projected to be about $10 million over the cap. Our hope is this report has

Or maybe not.
The Charlotte Observer reported Saturday that the Panthers believe they quot;can retain Williams at his current numbers." The Panthers reportedly sit about $10 million over the expected 2013 salary cap. It comes as no surprise, then, that they reworked the contracts of C Ryan Kalil and RB Jonathan Stewart. The Kalil move knocks his cap number from $9.85 million down to $6.4 million. The Charlotte Observer points out, however, that Stewart's reworked deal actually increases his 2013 cap number by $200,000. That sure makes it look like the Panthers are locking him in as their lead back for the coming season. Such a move only casts more doubt on DeAngelo Williams' future with the franchise. If you happened to draft Brandon Lloyd this past summer like I did, you’ve probably been shaking your head when watching the Patriots play on prime-time television the past two weeks as the veteran has looked like a Pro Bowl star. In that time Lloyd has been targeted a whopping 25-times, hauling in 17-receptions for 279-yards a score and even picking up a fumble recovery in the end zone for another touchdown.
Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.
