Joe Morgan poised for bigger role

The Times-Picayune reports that Saints WR Joe Morgan is excited about the possibility of becoming the team's #3 WR this season. Morgan served as WR Devery Henderson's virtual understudy the past 2 years. The Saints have yet to re-sign Henderson this offseason, though, which clears the way for Morgan to find more work. After spending his rookie season on IR, Morgan caught 10 balls for 379 yards and 3 TDs last season. Those scores came from 80, 48 and 34 yards out. Any role in the Saints' passing game brings potential fantasy relevance. The injury histories of WR Lance Moore and WR Marques Colston certainly don't hurt Morgan's upside. He still looks like more of a waiver-wire candidate, but we'll keep an eye on the young

The Saints haven't shown any interest in bringing back WR Devery Henderson. That has Joe Morgan as the favorite to assume #3 WR duties. The 2011 undrafted free agent has just 10 career catches. But to say he's displayed big-play ability would be an understatement. He's averaged a whopping 37.9 yards per catch and scored on 3 of those 10 grabs. Speed isn't an issue. Morgan is working on becoming a more complete receiver this offseason. "I have to keep that chip on my shoulder so I don't get complacent and think I've done something when in reality I still have a long ways to go," he said. "But I am excited. The opportunity is out there, I just have to seize it." Morgan is worth monitoring as part of New Orleans'

As of today, the Saints have yet to re-sign unrestricted free agent wide receiver Devery Henderson nor are they expected to. That means once you get past starters Marques Colston and
Lance Moore, Joe Morgan is currently slated to be the Saints' No. 3 wideout.
Nakia Hogan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune wrote a piece Thursday that centers around Morgan preparing for the upcoming season and a larger role in the Saints' offense.
quot;I have to keep that chip on my shoulder so I don't get complacent and think I've done something when in reality I still have a long ways to go," Morgan said. "But I am excited. The opportunity is out there. I just have to seize it."
Morgan's calling card is his straight-line speed and big-play ability. The

If you happened to draft Brandon Lloyd this past summer like I did, you’ve probably been shaking your head when watching the Patriots play on prime-time television the past two weeks as the veteran has looked like a Pro Bowl star. In that time Lloyd has been targeted a whopping 25-times, hauling in 17-receptions for 279-yards a score and even picking up a fumble recovery in the end zone for another touchdown.
Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.

While many have made the case for Michael Crabtree being a first round bust, it appears the 4th year receiver is starting to come into his own. Early signs in the off-season suggested this could be a breakout year for Crabtree, if for no other reason than he finally overcame his problematic foot issues.
For the first-time Crabtree actually played in a preseason game this August, and thankfully his foot ailments appear to be a thing of the past.
The best thing that ever happened for Crabtree was Alex Smith’s demotion in the middle of the season. It’s not that Crabtree and Smith weren’t having success together, but more that Colin Kaepernick has the

In the NFL, it's not often that we can accurately say we've never seen something before, that an individual or team accomplishment is completely without precedent in the league's 90-plus-year history. But at this point, I think that's where we are with Adrian Peterson.
All-Day rushed for another 212 yards on Sunday, raising his league-leading season total to 1,812. Here's the highlight run, an 82-yarder. Peterson has topped the 200-yard plateau in two of

Finally! Dynasty owners like myself with David Wilson on their bench have been waiting for the ultra talented rookie to receive an opportunity to show case what he can do. Earlier in the season he had a long touchdown run against the Browns, but because of early fumbling issues and pass protection concerns, Andre Brown moved past Wilson on the depth chart.
Brown was placed on injured reserve a few weeks back and the Giants countered with Craig Lumpkin as added depth. Lumpkin saw a few snaps against the Redskins, but the Giants decided to use Ahmad Bradshaw as the teams feature back again as a counter to the Brown’s injury, rather than working Wilson in as a

The Chargers finally picked up a win and did so against a playoff caliber team, on the road. While Danario Alexander started off slow, he eventually had his way with the Steelers secondary picking up seven receptions for 88-yards and two touchdowns.
Alexander has done a terrific job in the short passing game, crossing routes and big plays down the field. Those of you that watched the Chargers play the Steelers on Sunday also know he has terrific balance and body control when going up in the air on 50/50 balls against a defender. This makes him a dangerous man inside the red zone and like his first touchdown, his body control around the sidelines allowed him to leap

After struggling through the first half of the season to pickup the teams new zone blocking scheme, Darren McFadden suffered another injury and for the 5th year in a row McFadden will now have missed at least four games. It just so happens that McFadden has only played five season in the league, so fantasy owners who drafted him this summer should have known the risk in taking him as a high round draft pick.

It’s hard to like Dez Bryant as a person but when it comes to talent, we’ve known for some time he has the ability to be an elite option at the receiver position. The question was, would Bryant ever figure out what it takes to play at a Pro Bowl level in the NFL?
In his third season Bryant was having an up and down campaign, until the last four weeks. In that time Bryant has posted 29 receptions for 475-yards and six touchdowns. Two of those games came against the Eagles and in the second game Bryant abused the Eagles secondary after the catch, physically running over and past them for two impressive scores.

The Broncos threw us a curveball on Sunday as we found out Knowshon Moreno, not rookie Ronnie Hillman would be the starter against Kansas City. Talk throughout the week made it seem that Denver would use a three back committee with Moreno, Hillman and Lance Ball but that strategy proved to be false when you look at the snap count distribution throughout the game.
Hillman played all of seven snaps, Ball only one as Moreno saw a feature back work load with 55 snaps,

A pair of Detroit receivers went over the century mark on Thanksgiving as Calvin Johnson turned in another dominant performance and rookie Ryan Broyles filled in nicely for Titus Young, who was serving a one-game suspension.
While Johnson is back to his old self over the past month, we shouldn’t discount Broyles odds of maintaining WR3 status down the stretch. The rookie will be a big part of what the Lions will do on offense in the future, but the question is, can Matthew Stafford play more like he did against the Texans or will he regress back to his poor play he’s shown us for most of the season?

Hillman worked his way into the prime backup job to McGahee over a month ago, now he has the starting job but expect Lance Ball and Knowshon Moreno to see some time on the field this week.
Only time will tell if Hillman can hold onto the job, but the Broncos clearly drafted him with the intention of being the replacement for McGahee in the future.

Hey, wait, hold up. Who invited the 2008 Texans to the 2012 season?
Houston's defense is no longer supposed to be a team weakness, but an asset. In fact, the Texans D entered the week ranked second in the NFL in yards-allowed (281.6) and third in points (15.9). Sure, they were destroyed by the Packers in Week 6, but they've still held six opponents to 14 points or less this season. Ever since the Green Bay loss, this defense has been absolutely dominant.
This isn't a team that finds itself in weekly shootouts anymore, as was the case early in the Gary Kubiak era. These days, Houston holds your offense to a low number and they steamroll your defense with Arian Foster. That's the formula. Game

One thing we can count on in New Orleans is a running game clustered with multiple tailbacks coming in and out of the lineup. With Joe Vitt back from his suspension, leading the charge as the Saints head coach there are some things have changed that we need to take note of.
For one, Vitt is open about wanting to run the football more, using ball control to take pressure off the defense. A smart move, and with Sproles out of the lineup, Chris Ivory has been pressed back into action as the third option in the

The Raiders have struggled to run the football all year forcing Carson Palmer and the passing game to play well in order to remain competitive. With the way their defense has played of late and the Saints coming to town, you can bet Palmer is in for a day of possibly over 50 passing attempts and that means big things for Denarius Moore.
Moore struggled with hamstring problems this summer and came on slow this season as a result, but in the past five weeks Moore is seventh in the league in targets, with 22 receptions for 392 yards and four touchdowns. Few wide receivers can rival those numbers and with possibly his most favorable game of the year, you can understand why

These are the numbers we hoped for when Marshall was sent packing out of Miami and re-united with Jay Cutler in Chicago. The chemistry between Cutler and Marshall is top notch but with success comes the attention from opponents to figure out ways to take this combination away.

Time to get in character for another week. The ranks in this exercise are not Week 10 fantasy ranks; instead, we're trying to arrange the players based on what we expect from Weeks 10-16. Assume a standard scoring format (non-PPR), and remember the golden rule: no one gains 10-20 percent of bonus value just because they're on your roster.
That established, if you logically construct a sound argument, I'm all ears. I'll add comments, and tweak a rank or two, as the night goes along. It's quarterbacks and wideouts this week; running backs and tight ends get the floor next week.

Not only did Andrew Luck set an NFL rookie record with 433 passing yards (he had a career-high 273 by halftime, and this included T.Y. Hilton dropping a perfectly thrown would-be 40-yard TD), he did so while committing zero turnovers and against a Miami defense that entered having allowed just 6.8 YPA with an 8:8 TD:INT ratio. Maybe even more impressively, he took just one sack and got 9.0 YPA on a whopping 48 pass attempts. There's a pretty strong argument that two rookies are among the five most valuable commodities in the NFL right now. Luck's monstrous game was actually bittersweet for me, as while I started him in multiple other leagues, I benched him in my big money NFFC one, instead going with Ben Roethlisberger. My third

The Bills have struggled to say the least against the run this year and the way New England uses there running backs, we should consider Shane Vereen as a flex option. Keep an eye on Brandon Bolden status through practice this week, but I have a feeling Vereen has earned the right to be the primary backup to Stevan Ridley, even if Bolden is healthy.
Even Danny Woodhead is worth a look as a flex, at least in PPR leagues because the Patriots are sure to build a big lead and use all three running backs. Vereen and Woodhead will also see action in the passing game, and Vereen trades off with Ridley in goal-line responsibilities.

Andre Johnson has failed to haul in a touchdown for five straight weeks. Fantasy owners have to be disappointed in Johnson’s numbers this year, but credit a stingy defense and a terrific running game as some of the reasons for Houston’s failure to give him more work.
Then again, Johnson has no less than eight receptions in each of his past three games, and had his second highest receiving total last week with 118 yards against the Bills.
While Johnson may not be the elite WR1 option he was in the past, he’s still a weekly WR2 play, even in standard leagues. Based on his recent workload in the offense, we should expect his touchdowns to come and

If you were one of those fantasy owners who took a shot on Matthew Stafford in the second round of your draft this summer, it’s been a disappointing season. Finally last week, Stafford put together the type of numbers we would expect from a quarterback that threw for over 5,000 yards and 41 touchdowns the year before and hopefully it’s the begging if a big second half.

You should know the rules of the game by now, amigos. Shuffle Up is a forward-looking piece. The ranks below are not Week 8 ranks; they're rest-of-season ranks. If I had a fresh draft starting right now, this is the blueprint for the quarterback and wide receiver position. Next week (and all odd-numbered weeks), I'll rank the running backs and tight ends.
Your respectful disagreement is always welcome. Win the debate, win the rank. I might tweak this list as the day goes along. Let's figure out this crazy world together.
Strength of schedule is one additional piece of the puzzle as we run the Shuffle this week. While I'm not the biggest fan of looking ahead too far in the NFL - things change so

New Orleans Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt said TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) will test his injured ankle Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Huddle Up: Graham's numbers are down this season, but his owners are very anxious to have him back in the fold. If he misses more time Lance Moore figures to pick up extra touches.

On Saturday, the Saints ruled out tight end Jimmy Graham for Week 7. He didn't make the trip to Tampa Bay with the team. Graham was very limited in practice on Thursday and Friday and was looking like a game-time decision, but the Saints thought it would be best to give his injured right ankle another week off. Graham injured the ankle in Week 5 against the Chargers. Although he kept playing in that game, he looked very hobbled, and the bye week wasn't enough time for him to completely heal. FANTASY ANALYSIS: And so, the Saints help out fantasy owners. I, for one, was really not looking forward to making the decision to either sit or start Graham if he was active Sunday morning. He might have been nothing more than a decoy. But now he is

We get one break with the Week 7 Sunday schedule: most of the games are early. As things sit right now, only three games will come after the first segment (the Pats and Jets, the Raiders and Jaguars, and the Bengals and Steelers). So game-time decisions and Sunday calls won't be as hairy this week as they normally are.
Let's get to the clipboard. Please have your copay ready.
• Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) missed all of Friday's practice after doing some work Thursday. He's questionable on the injury report and seems like a game-day decision for the match against Washington. Bradshaw's level of play has been stellar in recent weeks and he's one of the toughest pound-for-pound backs in the league, but

Saints TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) did not travel with the team to Tampa and has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bucs. The fact that he was able to practice a bit this week makes us think it's not a high-ankle sprain he's dealing with. But Graham should still be considered iffy for Week 8. David Thomas will step in as New Orleans' starting TE but is just a desperation option in fantasy. Marques Colston, Lance Moore, and Darren Sproles should all pick up extra targets in Graham's absence.

New Orleans Saints TE Jimmy Graham (ankle) will not travel with the team for their Week 7 game so he can rest his injured ankle.
Huddle Up: Headed into the weekend as a game-time decision, but no longer. David Thomas will likely take over as the passing-down tight end, but is no real fantasy option. Look for the passing game to lean heavily on Darren Sproles and the wideouts - Marques Colston, Lance Moore and Devery Henderson.

New Orleans Saints WR
Lance Moore (hamstring) fully participated in practice Friday, Oct. 19, and is probable for the team's Week 7 game.
Huddle Up: With TE Jimmy Graham a major question mark, Moore's return will be a boon for the Saints in terms of the underneath and middle-of-the-field routes.

The good news for the Saints is that wide receiver
Lance Moore is ready to get back into the fold after missing a game due to a hamstring injury. The bad news is tight end Jimmy Graham's status for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers is much more uncertain. According to Mike Triplett of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Graham quot;is as questionable as it gets after being limited all week. Might be limited even if he plays." FANTASY ANALYSIS: Graham is going to be a game-time decision, and his fantasy owners have a tough decision to make if he is active Sunday morning. Even if he's limited, Graham is a phenomenal talent and a mismatch against any defense. If he's at only 70 or 80 percent, it's going to be hard to bench him. But there is a
