San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said the team isn't considering re-signing WR Randy Moss after learning that WR
Michael Crabtree (Achilles') tore his Achilles' Wednesday, May 22. Harbaugh said the team is intrigued with the depth of young receivers they have on roster, and they are looking forward to them stepping up to the task. WR A.J. Jenkins, the team's 2012 first-round pick, will have a chance to make an impact in his second year. Jenkins has spent the offseason adding muscle and working with QB Colin Kaepernick.

That gasp you heard after the news broke about
Michael Crabtree's reported Achilles tear wasn't just from his keeper owners; it also came from those buying into the hype over Colin Kaepernick. With his No. 1 receiver out for a significant period of time, it's going to be even tougher for Kaepernick to perform up to his lofty draft status.

Michael Crabtree suffered a torn Achilles tendon while participating in organized team activities on Tuesday. He will undergo what may be season-ending surgery. There has been no official word from the organization at this time. This injury places added pressure on the development of second year wideout AJ Jenkins and rookie Quinton Patton. Mario Manningham and the recently acquired Anquan Boldin are the 49ers' most two veteran receivers at the top of the depth chart. FANTASY ANALYSIS: This is a big blow to an offense that already lacks proven players at the wide receiver position.

The 49ers haven't commented yet on the injury, which used to be an automatic season-ender but has since become one that can sometimes be rehabbed in a matter of months - as Baltimore Ravens LB

Huddle Up: Crabtree's injury wipes out what was expected to be a promising fantasy season; it also has a ripple effect throughout the 49ers, starting with a ding to Colin Kaepernick's fantasy value. A.J. Jenkins and rookie Quinton Patton are the most likely candidates to replace him in the 49ers' lineup, as Mario Manningham is still coming back from a torn ACL and Kyle Williams is more of a return man than a receiver. Don't rule out the 49ers looking for a veteran option to complement Anquan Boldin; Brandon Lloyd is a distinct possibility.

Taking a very early look at the 49ers 53-man roster, CSNbayarea.com beat writer Matt Maiocco projected fourth-round selection Quinton Patton among the wide receiver quot;locks." Also in that category,
Michael Crabtree and Anquan Boldin, but not Mario Mannigham and A.J. Jenkins. Several draft touts talked up the Patton before the draft, but the talented Louisiana Tech product slipped into the middle rounds. So why the early hype in terms of sticking with the team? Huddle Up: The Niners spent a first-round pick on A.J. Jenkins last year, but aside from Michael Crabtree they have little in the way of long-term solutions at wide receiver. They also have an abundance of picks this year and could package two or three to move up and grab a quality player in a draft class deep at wideout.

Crabtree said he took such a shot from Baltimore Ravens CB Jimmy Smith that he temporarily couldn't see. 'When the guy hit me, he hit me all in the face,'
Crabtree said. 'I'm not tripping. I'm not one to whine about nothing, but he hit me all in the face and I couldn't really see after he hit me ... It's not concussion-like. Why did 49ers WR Michael Crabtree finally break out with QB Colin Kaepernick under center after struggling for 3-and-a-half seasons with QB Alex Smith? Crabtree says it's simply about trust. "I think [Kaepernick] trusted me more," Crabtree said. "Playing wide receiver, you need a quarterback who trusts you." The numbers certainly back that up. In his first 51 career games, Crab averaged 7.1 targets. But with Kaep under center for the final 10 games of 2012 (including playoffs), Crabtree saw an average of 9.4 looks. He racked up 61 catches, 880 yards and 8 TDs over that span. That extrapolates to a 98-1,408-13 line over 16 games. Those are top-3 fantasy numbers. But he never became the game-changing wide receiver the Raiders envisioned him being when they took him with the seventh overall pick. Crabtree, who was widely considered to be the best wideout in that year's draft, was chosen by the 49ers three picks later. "You know, when I look at the organization and what they’re about, and as a football team, the talent that they have, I think it's a good, good place for me to be." Boldin's physical style of play makes him a perfect fit with the 'Niners. And he'll have a good shot at a 2nd straight Super Bowl. The 49ers have acquired WR Anquan Boldin from the Ravens in exchange for a 6th-round pick. The cap-strapped Ravens wanted to keep Boldin, but not at the $6 million he was scheduled to make in 2013. San Francisco took advantage of the situation. They acquire a physical, veteran possession receiver for dirt cheap. Boldin has trouble separating at 32 years old, but he knows how to use his frame and still possesses some of the strongest hands in the game. He'll be a nice complement to the younger, speedier Michael Crabtree. QB Colin Kaepernick now has a vast array of weapons at his disposal. His ceiling pushes even higher with the addition of Boldin. We'll have to see what the Ravens plan to do at WR opposite Torrey Smith.

If you beat 'em, join 'em? I don't think that's how the adage goes, but that's how you can describe Anquan Boldin's move today. The Ravens have traded the 32-year-old wide receiver to the team they defeated in last month's Super Bowl, the San Francisco 49ers. Baltimore received a 2013 sixth-round pick in return. Boldin, who will turn 33 in October, caught 65 passes for 921 yards and four touchdowns last season. FANTASY ANALYSIS: The Niners have found the veteran wide receiver to replace Randy Moss, I guess. Boldin was absolutely, positively not going ot take a pay cut and without one, the Ravens were just going to release him. So, while Boldin is worth more than a sixth-rounder, the team did a nice job of getting anything for a player who

San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore did not take issue with the team's offensive playcalling in their final series of Super Bowl XLVII. With first-and-goal from the Baltimore Ravens seven-yard-line, the 49ers handed off on first down to RB LaMichael James, who gained two yards, then ran three consecutive passing plays, on which QB Colin Kaepernick targeted WR
Michael Crabtree. Gore was on the field for the final three plays, but said he wasn't second-guessing the play selection. Gore had 19 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown in the game. 'That's why we've got coaches,' Gore said. 'Every player wants the ball at that time. But our coaches made the decision and we tried our best to make it happen.'

Michael Crabtree said following Super Bowl XLVII he believed he was interfered with on multiple plays in the game. 'There was a couple of plays where the guy was on me before the ball got to me,'
Crabtree said. 'I don't even want to talk about it. It's frustrating, man. It's the game-winning touchdown - makes me sad. It's the Super Bowl. It's what you live for.'

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh criticized the officials for what he believed was a pivotal non-call in the final minutes of Super Bowl XLVII. Officials determined Baltimore Ravens CB Jimmy Smith's contact with WR
Michael Crabtree was incidental, but Harbaugh insisted a penalty should have been called. 'I really want to handle this with class and grace, and we had several opportunities in this game,' said Harbaugh. 'We didn't play our best game, and the Ravens made a lot of plays and battled back. They competed to win. But there's no question in my mind that there was a pass interference - and then a hold on
Crabtree on the last one.' Harbaugh would later criticize the officiating again during his postgame news conference. 'I

San Francisco 49ers wide reciever Randy Moss was his usual honest self when he told the media that he does not like his role. quot;I like to be out there playing football," Moss added. The 49ers power run scheme isn't an ideal fit for the 35-year-old receiver. He caught 28 passes this season as a situational threat. The 49ers have leaned heavily on
Michael Crabtree (85 catches this season) while Moss finished tied for fifth on the team. Moss also later said he was the greatest receiver to ever play the game. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Moss has five receptions for 71 yards in San Francisco's two postseason games. While his career isn't technically over, how much is really left in the tank?
