Fantasy baseball Trade Tips: It's time to sell Rickie Weeks

A little advice for owners proposing a trade: float an actual trade, not a fishing line. It's fine to ask about the availability of a player, but those kinds of talks rarely develop into an actual trade. Owners need to propose a framework of value and kick in a few names to get talks moving. Sure,
Mike Trout is available, but for the right price.

The soul of Closing Time is the bullpen chase, so our logical first step takes us to Colorado. Settle in, Rafael Betancourt owners, and have your copay ready.
The Rockies closer has been working through a groin problem for almost a month now, and it forced him out of Tuesday's appearance in the tenth inning. He's scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday.
Players are wired to downplay injuries, and Betancourt is no different. Here's what he told

We held a mid-season draft Monday, and I ended up taking Albert Pujols with the 19th pick. Judging by Yahoo’s updated rest of season rankings, I guess this could be considered something of a reach. The prices you see in this piece are roughly how I rank the roto-eligible outfielders going forward. What we've seen to this point is merely an audition; if you want a list of the top players to this point, there are plenty of places you can access that.
Don't obsess over the prices in a vacuum: what really matters is how the players relate to one another. Assume a 5x5 scoring format, as always, and players at the same price

Last week I took a foggy, sleep deprived look at Carl Crawford prime years and what his numbers would look like with a completely arbitrary 20% regression built in. From there I looked at what 90%-80%-70%-60% of that slash line would look like. So what was the point of all of that and why am I about to do it again (without the arbitrary 20% original regression)? Well, there may not really be a point. But if I can try to rationalize it anyway...
Some people are visual learners. So while they may understand what it means when one says "Mike Trout is due for some regression", it might not be readily apparent what the regression would look like. The

The outfield is the fun place to go shopping in fantasy baseball. Power, sure, you'll find it here. Plenty of guys run. A few players do everything. And the two most exciting young position players in the game happen to reside here, too. Everyone likes picking out their outfield.
The goal today is to rank all the mixed-league worthy outfielders going forward in 5x5 fantasy value, 2013 only. Don't read too much into the dollar values in a vacuum - they're merely used as a tool to compare players. And when commodities share the same price, they're considered even. (Players on the DL and minor-league prospects are not eligible for ranking.)

1. Tiger third baseman Miguel Cabrera was the most expensive player auctioned, as he went for $43 to ESPN's Matthew Berry. I am surprised he didn't go for a few dollars more, but it is rare to see a player auctioned for more than $40-45 in these experts leagues.
2. Mike Trout was the second most expensive hitter drafted as he was auctioned at $40 by defending champion Larry Schecter. Schecter spend $110 of

The first thing to know about this exercise is that it's mostly out of context. I'm in a bunch of leagues every year (too many, really, but it's a labor of love) and they come from all angles. Mixed leagues. Mono leagues. Keeper leagues (well, one). Redraft leagues. Drafts and auctions, with the player-penetration level constantly changing.
At this time of year I like to look back (though I'm not done drafting) and see what players I've landed more than once. Repeated ownership generally means I like a player, at least more than my opponents do - but it's obviously a lot more complicated than that. And sometimes I find myself missing on players I actually do like a lot because of circumstances I can't really control (I only have

Thirty Bold Predictions for 2013

I wrote my 30 Bold Predictions for 2012 last March as as exercise to show how baseball is so tough to predict sometimes. Every year, we see someone put up a breakout season that no one saw coming. Case in point: Mike Trout in 2012. Who saw that coming? I would have to say no one did. So, with that in mind, here is a look at my 30 bold predictions for 2013, by division and by team. Just remember, these are BOLD predictions, so the likelihood of any of these predictions actually happening is very small.

I apologize for being a day late on this article. I took a deeper dive than initially planned in order to make it up to you.
As I noted in my Initial Thoughts post here, Alex and I conducted the Fake Teams H2H Points League on Wednesday night. I won't re-hash any issues covered in my original post, so let's get right into the draft analysis. I will have a snapshot of each team's roster with a Best Pick and Worst Pick as well as a general analysis of the roster.

Last season, the players who ranked first, second, fourth and sixth in terms of overall fantasy value were all outfielders. This spot gave us one player who went 30/40 in home runs and stolen bases (Mike Trout), and another who went 40/30 (Ryan Braun). Seven different outfielders gave us 20/20 seasons. Thirty-seven outfielders finished with at least 35 homers-plus-steals.
Simply put, this position is a smorgasbord of stats. Among the outfielders, you'll find several of our game's most useful multi-category contributors — guys like Trout, Braun, Kemp, McCutchen, Heyward, Harper, both Uptons and both Car-Gos. You'll also find a collection of high-quality category specialists in the outfield — burners like Ben Revere and

I just keep doing fantasy baseball drafts don’t I? Seems like every time I wake up I get my bowl of cereal, my Red Bull (sometimes there is vodka in it), answer a plethora of tweets and emails, and then I end up being in a draft of some kind. Which draft am I talking about in this article? It’s the SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio draft, populated by the genius minds of the network. How did my team turn out? Before I get to that, here are the rules.

If you are getting ready for fantasy baseball season, here are some tips about last year’s top fantasy baseball rookies in the National League.
Bryce Harper was the big National League rookie name going into the 2012 season and he ended up winning NL Rookie of the Year, but the four other players who finished in the top five could also have bright fantasy futures.
Bryce Harper, Outfielder, Washington Nationals
Harper scored 98 runs with 18 steals while hitting 22 homers and batting .270. The only other players to reach all those numbers were Ryan Braun, Mike Trout and Andrew McCutcheon. And Harper did it as a
