Darrius Heyward-Bey - Colts think DHB could provide explosive plays
Source: The Huddle
The Indianapolis Colts believe WR Darrius Heyward-Bey could be an explosive playmaker this season that could get behind the defense. Heyward-Bey is expected to receive more opportunities than he received when he was with the Oakland Raiders.
Huddle Up: After a career season in 2011 (64-975-4), DHB's numbers slipped to 41-606-5 this past season, but playing with one of the game's top young QBs in Andrew Luck and having talented WRs Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton to help divert defensive attention should net a statistical uptick for Heyward-Bey.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told reporters that when he was with the Indianapolis Colts as offensive coordinator and eventually interim head coach last season, WR
Reggie Wayne started to embrace the idea of lining up at different spots along the line of scrimmage. Arians said WR Larry Fitzgerald has welcomed the idea, as well, as he's being tried in the 'X,' 'Z' and 'F' positions.
Huddle Up: Moving around in the Indy offense led to Wayne seeing 195 targets last year, second-most among NFL wideouts. Despite three 100-catch seasons, two more with 90 grabs, and six 1,000-yard campaigns Fitz has never seen more than 173 targets. Larry Fitzgerald is a very smart player with a very high work ethic. Both his smarts and that work ethic are being put to the test in the Cardinals' new offense under head coach Bruce Arians. Besides learning a new offense and new routes for the first time since 2007, Fitzgerald is learning how to play three wide-receiver positions. He is lining up at both outside positions as well as in the slot. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Fitzgerald admitted that he doesn't feel very comfortable right now, but again, his IQ and work ethic are so high, he will find his groove in time. Moving Fitzgerald around the formation should be to his benefit as he will not be facing the opponent's top cornerback constantly. It's similar to what Arians did with

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has been seeing lots of time in the slot during minicamp practices. That's a significant change for Fitz, who ran just 19% of his routes from the slot last year. It looks like he'll be moving all over the formation in new HC Bruce Arians' offense. We saw Arians deploy a similar strategy with WR Reggie Wayne last year. It was at least part of the reason Wayne enjoyed a big-time bounce-back campaign (Andrew Luck didn't hurt either). Fitz is looking at a similar recipe this year: pass-happy Arians calling plays and an upgrade at QB in Carson Palmer. Still just 29 years old, Fitz seems ripe for a big 2013 season.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak has been impressed with what he's seen from first-round pick WR DeAndre Hopkins (Clemson). "He's special," Kubiak said Sunday. "Ball skills are extremely special. Very long; long arms. Big hands; you saw the catch he made out here today. He's going to help us early, and we know that, and that's why we brought him here."
Our View: We agree with Kubiak here. Hopkins reminds us of
Reggie Wayne (Colts) because of his body control and ability to make difficult catches seem routine. The team finally has a legitimate threat opposite superstar Andre Johnson. We like him as a WR4 with upside in 2013. His current ADP is WR43 and he's coming off the board at the end of round nine.

Over the next several weeks, armchair quarterbacks of various backgrounds will hone their draft skills in preparation for main events come August. Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald managed just 71 catches, 798 yards and 4 scores last year. The catches were his fewest since 2006, and the yards and TDs were his lowest marks since his 2004 rookie campaign. Fitz recently called it "the most disappointing season of my career." He said he's in "prove-it mode" in 2013. Fitzgerald obviously doesn't have anything to prove. But the added motivation can only help. The pieces are falling into place for a big-time bounce-back season. He has a pass-happy HC in Bruce Arians who just guided WR Reggie Wayne to a 106-catch season. And Carson Palmer finally gives Fitz a QB capable of consistently getting him the ball. We like Fitzgerald to rise back into the top-10 fantasy WRs in

New Cardinals HC Bruce Arians plans to move Larry Fitzgerald around the formation to create opportunities to get him the ball. The obvious comparison here is to Reggie Wayne's resurgent 2012 under Arians. The problem: That came with a top-notch rookie passer. With crappy QBs in 2011, Wayne caught 75 balls for 960 yards and 4 TDs. That looks a lot like Fitz's 71-798-4 line from last year. The plan to get Fitz the ball at all costs is sound. His ceiling will be lower, however, until the Cards get better play at QB.

That bodes well for Vick Ballard at the outset, though we'll obviously have to see if Indy pursues another backfield option. Hamilton also wants to feature short, high-percentage passes. Reggie Wayne will obviously have a place, and T.Y. Hilton could be the top playmaker that Hamilton looks to open things for. The TEs will be interesting to watch. Marques Colston (WR)

Is there another receiver in the NFL that goes under the radar like Marques Colston? I don’t think so. Colston has the NFL record for most receptions by a player in his first 2 years…and he was a 7th round draft pick! All the guy has done is record at least 1,000 yards, and 70 catches every season for 7 years with the exception of 2007 when he missed substantial time because of a broken thumb. That’s incredible, and because he isn’t in the news much, and isn’t the most vocal guy, he flies below the radar. You wouldn’t think that he would have outscored the likes of Wes Welker, Reggie Wayne, and Victor Cruz this year, but he has. With Colston’s consistency you can’t go wrong drafting him in 2013. He has a hall of fame quarterback throwing it to him and one of the most innovative coaches in the NFL coming back next year. Don’t let Colston slip off your fantasy radar just because you don’t hear his name as much as you do other big time WRs. He may not be in commercials or all over ESPN, but Colston produces year in and year out. I’d advise you to look into acquiring Colston in dynasty leagues as I feel he’s undervalued, and could be traded for without giving up your studs. He could be a nice piece moving forward, and will undoubtedly in my mind total over 1,200 yards, 80 catches, and 10 touchdowns yet again next year.

Perhaps the dumbest thing a fantasy manager can possibly do is publish player ranks on a mainstream sports site on the morning of a draft. Definitely not recommended. Poor strategy, requiring a special combination of stupidity and hubris. Far from ideal.

So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

Many offensive coordinators had their head in the clouds again this season, evident in the pass-first mentality most teams portrayed. As a result, pass catchers, unsurprisingly identical to quarterbacks, experienced unprecedented fantasy success. In total, 19 wide receivers averaged at least 10.0 points per game in standard formats, up one from last year and four more than five years ago. The usual suspects dotted the landscape, but several newcomers (e.g. Randall Cobb and Eric Decker) made their mark as well. While it might make sense for younger guys like Andrew Luck, Vick Ballard, and T.Y. Hilton to play a full game, it wouldn't be surprising to see 34-year-old Reggie Wayne get some rest. There's risk in starting any of these guys in fantasy this week.

Those of you who choose to settle fantasy championships in Week 17 understand the pitfalls, no doubt. A few of the NFL's better teams have already clinched everything they can clinch, so there's a risk of shutdown. It's the usual end-of-year worry.
If you've been riding various Falcons this season, for example, then you're probably a little panicked about their availability in title week. Atlanta has already locked up home field advantage throughout the post-season in the NFC. Thus, the risk-reward calculation gets tricky for head coach Mike Smith. A win versus Tampa Bay means little, and an injury to a key starter would be disastrous. But Smith probably doesn't want to see his team stumble into the bye-week, either; it's

If you happened to draft Brandon Lloyd this past summer like I did, you’ve probably been shaking your head when watching the Patriots play on prime-time television the past two weeks as the veteran has looked like a Pro Bowl star. In that time Lloyd has been targeted a whopping 25-times, hauling in 17-receptions for 279-yards a score and even picking up a fumble recovery in the end zone for another touchdown.
Problem is, many of you didn’t have him in your lineup let alone on your team at this point, after Lloyd struggled throughout the season and was demoted out of two receiver sets against the Dolphins and Colts.

While many have made the case for Michael Crabtree being a first round bust, it appears the 4th year receiver is starting to come into his own. Early signs in the off-season suggested this could be a breakout year for Crabtree, if for no other reason than he finally overcame his problematic foot issues.
For the first-time Crabtree actually played in a preseason game this August, and thankfully his foot ailments appear to be a thing of the past.
The best thing that ever happened for Crabtree was Alex Smith’s demotion in the middle of the season. It’s not that Crabtree and Smith weren’t having success together, but more that Colin Kaepernick has the

As an Arian Foster owner in numerous leagues, it was frustrating to see him not score in a game for just the second time all season, especially at home in such a favorable matchup, but he really piled on the yards late, finishing with 165 rushing, so it's tough to complain too much. In fact, his 6.1 YPC was by far the best of the year. He also had a 27-yard touchdown run called back due to a hold…Reggie Wayne picked a poor time to have his three lowest yardage totals of the season, which have occurred over the past three games, including a season-low 14 yards Sunday…Vick Ballard was highly impressive. He's an interesting keeper league commodity moving forward…Sunday marked

Reggie Wayne had three catches in the Week 15 game against the Houston Texans, extending his NFL record with at least three grabs to 62 consecutive games.
Huddle Up: Wayne just extended the streak with a 7-yard catch on the game's final play, but wasn't a factor all game with only 3 catches for 14 yards as he was covered for most of the contest by Texans' standout CB Jonathan Joseph.

The Colts can still catch the Texans for the AFC South crown, and whether
Reggie Wayne or Andre Johnson can be stopped is a good predictor for victory.

Finally! Dynasty owners like myself with David Wilson on their bench have been waiting for the ultra talented rookie to receive an opportunity to show case what he can do. Earlier in the season he had a long touchdown run against the Browns, but because of early fumbling issues and pass protection concerns, Andre Brown moved past Wilson on the depth chart.
Brown was placed on injured reserve a few weeks back and the Giants countered with Craig Lumpkin as added depth. Lumpkin saw a few snaps against the Redskins, but the Giants decided to use Ahmad Bradshaw as the teams feature back again as a counter to the Brown’s injury, rather than working Wilson in as a
