The Boston Herald's Karen Guregian has confirmed that Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski will undergo a 4th forearm surgery on Monday at 2 pm ET. Doctors will go in and determine whether or not the infection has cleared. But contrary to previous information, Guregian reports that Gronk will need a 5th surgery regardless. If the infection has cleared, that procedure to replace the plate in his forearm will take place in about a week. Gronk would then begin a 10-11 week recovery phase. If the infection is still present, "it's back to square one, and the possibility of missed games creeps into the equation," Guregian writes. We'll continue to stay on top of this situation.

Rob Gronkowski (forearm, back) is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday, May 20, on his injured forearm. The doctors are expected to take cultures from his forearm to see if the infection is still there. If there is no infection, the plate in his forearm will be replaced and
Gronkowski would start a 10- to 11-week rehab process. The plate will not be replaced if there is still signs of an infection.
Huddle Up: Best case scenario here is that Gronk returns early in camp, but there's also the possibility of a lingering infection and also the reports of a back issue that have cropped up over the past week. Translation: The TE's availability for Week 1 is still very much in question.

In every corner of the sports universe hard-to-explain anomalies push the boundaries of flukiness, crazy events that leave eyewitnesses with jaws dropped.
Fantasy football is no exception.
From Jerome Harrison’s trampling of Kansas City Week 14 2009 to Billy Volek’s unforgettable two-game stretch with the Titans in 2004 to an entire offseason week where neither Kenny Britt or Titus Young are incarcerated, unforeseen occurrences happen all the time, changing previously conceived notions about a particular player or team.
Take Detroit’s Matthew Stafford.

2 important updates on the Rob Gronkowski back story. First, Pro Football Talk has learned that Gronk is awaiting a 2nd opinion but will "probably" need surgery to address the disc problem. Second, we've learned more about the timetable for the procedure and recovery. PFT reports that Gronk will go under the knife 3-4 weeks after the final forearm procedure. That could be Monday, or it could be later if he needs that 5th surgery. (Still following?) Then Gronk will need 10 weeks of rehab after the back surgery, according to ESPN. If our math is right, that means Gronk will be back in 13-14 weeks, assuming he doesn't need a 5th forearm surgery. The 2013 season starts in 16 weeks. If everything goes to plan, Gronk would

Rob Gronkowski's (back, forearm) 'chronic' back problem, even if it does require surgery, won't keep him from participating in training camp, unless his forearm needs several more surgeries. Gronkowski's disc problem is different from the disc problem he dealt with in 2009, when he had the disc shaved down. However, his new disc problem dates back to last season. The star tight end was surrounded by rumors in 2010 that he dealt with spinal stenosis, or the narrowing of the spinal column that can lead to degenerative discs and joint pain. However, those rumors were quickly dismissed.

Edelman should be safe as long as he can move past that bum foot. And Boyce would need to flop to end up getting cut. Our money is on Jones winning the 5th spot.
