Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said the team drafted WR
Ryan Broyles in part because of his return abilities.
Our View:
Broyles is a dangerous weapon but durability is a huge concern. Over the last two years (one in college, one with the Lions) he's seen his season cut short by devastating knee injuries. If he can get healthy and stay healthy then
Broyles can help out in many ways.

DeAndre Hopkins HOU (1st RD) -
While Cordarrelle Patterson may have the best upside from a raw skills perspective in this years class, it is Deandre Hopkins that is No.1 on my board. In Hopkins you have the most polished receiver in this class and he should be a slam dunk, week one starter opposite Andre Johnson.
At worst case Hopkins will be a bye week starting option in his rookie year and at best case he’s probably a weekly WR3 play. By next year we should see his floor at WR3, and his upside could blossom as far as a WR1 in PPR leagues, if the injury bug jumps up and bits Johnson again.

The Detroit Lions selected Mississippi State CB Darius Slay with the 36th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Our View: The Lions needed to continue to improve the secondary even though Chris Houston is back. This is where they passed on good corners last year for
Ryan Broyles, and this year they don't repeat that mistake.
Facing Cutler and Rodgers twice a year, the Lions had to improve the secondary and Slay will do that.

Lions WR Nate Burleson is ahead of schedule in his recovery from last October's broken leg. "The great news is I'm healed up," he said. "I just got news from my doctors that the bone is good. I'm running and jumping three months ahead of schedule." Burleson should be a full-go for training camp. And the broken leg isn't something that should linger. He'll turn 32 in August but had shown no signs of slowing down prior to the injury. He was on pace for 83 catches last year -- and racked up 73 in 2011. Burleson is currently sitting #2 on Detroit's depth chart. He'll need to fend off WR Ryan Broyles once he recovers from last year's torn ACL. The Lions also figure to draft competition this week.

In locker-rooms, on plasma screens or behind podiums, NFL head coaches typically spew one of three different types of propaganda when discussing expectations for newly acquired players – believable, outlandish and whatever the heck flies out of Jim Schwartz’s mouth.
Over the years, Schwartz has rewarded the football community with several golden nuggets, his comparison of Jahvid Best video clips to “porn” being the best. Well, it appears the Old Hyperbolator is at it again. Last week, he divulged to Lions fans running back Reggie Bush is poised for an enormous season.

Not that such a result would create much shock given the player in question and the offense in which he operates, but still. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Tuesday that Reggie Bush quot;could potentially catch 60-70-80 passes" this season, via DetroitLions.com writer Tim Twentyman. FANTASY ANALYSIS: That's a lot of receptions, but it's not totally out of this world for Bush. He caught 88 passes as a rookie and then 73 passes in 12 games the following year. Yes, that was seven seasons ago, but Bush is still a top-notch receiving back, and the Lions are still going to throw it a ton. Consider two things:
One, Joique Bell caught 52 passes for the Lions last year. Is it really inconceivable that a more-talented RB who is still in his prime

A #2 WR is at or near the top of the Lions' wish list, according to insider Carlos Monarrez. They have the best receiver in the game in Calvin Johnson. But WRs Nate Burleson and Ryan Broyles are both coming off injury and are better off in the slot. Titus Young was supposed to be the long-term answer opposite Megatron, but those plans crashed and burned. Detroit has shown interest in free agents Darrius Heyward-Bey and Domenik Hixon. They could also add a WR in the middle rounds of the draft. Whoever lines as across the field from Johnson this year will carry intriguing fantasy potential as part of Detroit's pass-heavy offense.

The Lions have released WR Titus Young. The 44th overall pick of the 2011 draft definitely earned his ticket out of town. Young's misbehavior started this past spring when he punched teammate Louis Delmas. Then in a Week 11 game against the Packers, Young purposely lined up on the wrong spot on the field. He's also been late to team meetings and ripped the organization on Twitter. On the field, Young hasn't lived up to his 2nd-round billing. He's averaged just 12.2 yards per catch and struggled for consistency across his first 2 seasons. His untapped potential will assure him another shot in 2013 though. We'll see who's willing to roll the dice on him. As for the Lions, they'll be in the market for a WR again this offseason.

Lions WR Ryan Broyles' rookie season was cut short by a torn ACL on December 2nd. It was the 2nd straight year Broyles shredded a knee -- he tore the opposite ACL at Oklahoma in November of 2011. That injury kept Broyles off the practice field until late-July. And he wasn't ready to make a significant impact until October. GM Martin Mayhew is looking at a similar timetable in 2013. "I feel pretty confident he's going to get through this one too, but next year might be the same as this year was where he may not do much during camp and he may come on around midseason," Mayhew said. According to Lions general manager Martin Mayhew, wide receiver
Ryan Broyles will probably experience a lot of deja vu next season. Broyles, a second-round pick last April, didn't play in a game until Week 7 as he recovered from a 2011 ACL tear while at the University of Oklahoma. Then, just as he was coming into his own at the pro level,
Broyles tore the ACL in his other knee in early December.

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said he will look to add a playmaker in the passing game this offseason. Mayhew has taken one wide receiver in each of his four NFL Drafts as Lions general manager. 'The way I look at it, when you've got a quarterback like Matthew Stafford, you want to keep giving him weapons, and that's what we're going to try to keep doing,' Mayhew said. 'If it's a receiver, if it's a tight end, if it's a running back that can catch passes out of the backfield, all those things help Matthew to be better, and they help Calvin to be better.'
