Mostly NBA Notes: Andre Drummond, the Rudy Gay trade and down goes Rondo

Andre Drummond has the sixth-most dunks in the NBA despite averaging just 20:11 mpg. He’s one of only six players in the league to average at least 1.5 bpg and 1.0 spg and among those half dozen, his 0.8 tpg are easily the fewest. Drummond has grabbed 32 rebounds over the past two games (in modest playing time as usual), and did I mention he’s just 19 years old? Admittedly, he’s a terrible free throw shooter (he shot 29.5 percent from the line at Connecticut. 29.5!), but Drummond’s 3.92 blocks per-48 minutes rank seventh in the league, ahead of Dwight Howard. Playing with a true point guard (Jose Calderon) for the first time as a pro should be beneficial as well. In

Tayshaun Prince, Austin Daye and a second-round pick.

Line of the Night: I guess LaMarcus Aldridge’s (2.56) back is doing just fine, thank you very much. A night after sitting out with a sore back, Aldridge returned to the lineup against the Pistons and had his best game of the season, scoring 32 points, and adding 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks in 41 minutes on the court. Word is that the Pistons focused their defensive efforts on stopping Damian Lillard, leaving Aldridge (relatively) free to do his thing. The result was a huge night for Aldridge, a quiet one for Lillard, and one win for the Pistons. Still, its great news for anxious Aldridge owners, who can now relax just a bit.
Honorable Mentions: The Thunder absolutely destroyed the

Source: Give Me The Rock by Patrick
Line of the Night: Amazingly, Deron Williams (2.94) edges out Kevin Love’s 40 point performance with a 30 point, 4 three, 9 assist and 2 steal game against the Pacers. How did he do it? Williams shot better from the floor and the line than Love, had more assists and fewer turnovers. Of course, the big negative is that he didn’t have 19 rebounds like the #2 player on the night.
Honorable Mentions: Just how good has Kevin Love (2.62) been recently? Love’s 40 point, 19 rebound and 4 three game against Charlotte just missed out on the fantasy line of the night, which would have been his third line of the night in four days. Love is now #3 on our player rater for the 2011-12

Line of the Night: Al Jefferson (2.95) must have been lying in wait like a lion, ready to attack the next team that strayed near his den. He tore apart the Wizards – JaVale McGee or no – for 34 points (16-23 from the field), 12 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, and 0 turnovers. It’s kind of ironic, because I just saw this article in a Google Alert today about how Greg Monroe is a better value pick than Al Jefferson in daily fantasy leagues. That’s probably true in general, but you would have been very disappointed if you’d made that decision last night, with

Dirk Nowitzki's protracted offensive issues continued Wednesday - and arguably hit a low point - as he scored eight points on 2-of-15 shooting and missed all five of his threes in 38 minutes of a 95-86 loss to the Thunder. Nowitzki has now averaged 9.3 points on 28-percent shooting in three games since returning from his rest period and has missed all 11 of his long-range attempts. Dirk says the swelling in his knee is gone, and now it's just a matter of working to get his shooting rhythm back and find confidence in his shooting stroke. We're in a situation where he have to take him at his word that he's feeling fine

Line of the Night: It has been one wild ride this year for Tyreke Evans (2.57 WARP). Horrible shooting performances and single-digit scoring games followed by games like this against the Jazz: 31 points, with 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 2 steals. Evans owners would surely appreciate a little more consistency from Evans this season, but his highs keep them coming back for more.
Honorable Mentions: Memphis lost to the hot mess known as the Phoenix Suns, but Marc Gasol (2.18) had the second best fantasy line of the night with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks in the game. Thanks Phoenix and your 36% shooting as a team. Or more specifically, thanks Channing Frye (more on that below).

Andrea Bargnani called Wednesday's calf injury "much worse" than the the first one, which cost him six games. Bargnani is due for an MRI on Thursday but figures to be lost for a while in any case. As we saw during his first stretch of missed games, the Raptors will struggle mightily on offense for as long as he's out. Aaron Gary will likely remain as the starter center by default, but will top out at 20 minutes on most nights. That leaves a combined 124 minutes behind Gray at center and between the two forward spots, which will be divided between James Johnson (SF/PF), Linas Kleiza (SF/PF), Amir Johnson (PF/C), and Ed Davis (PF/C). That means regular playing time for all four players - Johnson deserves near-universal roster

Line of the Night: Anyone who listens to the podcast knows that I went all in on Stephen Curry (3.58 WARP) this year in my personal leagues. Well, I couldn’t be happier this morning thanks to a season-high 32 points from Curry, who shot 12-19 from the field and added 6 threes, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals in a 101-93 win over the Blazers. Does it make the two weeks he was stashed on my bench all forgotten? No. But it is nice to see him playing like the Curry of old in his third back from that ankle sprain.
And now I can almost guarantee he sprains his ankle in the Warriors’ next game.

Alvin Gentry adjusted his starting five on Wednesday - replacing Channing Frye and Jared Dudley with Markieff Morris and Ronnie Price - in what he described as an effort to get more scoring out of his team's second unit. Morris only last six minutes because of stomach flu but his two-way play to this point of the season means this move clearly can stick. While this should largely remain a timeshare with Frye, a more consistent 25 minutes for Morris will produce good numbers - he's averaged 11.1 points, 1.6 threes, 6.9 boards, 0.7 steals, and 0.7 blocks in the eight games where he's

If you were presented with a decision between drafting Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry before the start of the season, who would have thought that Ellis would have been the correct answer?
