According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens think WR Deonte Thompson has the “inside track” for their #2 WR role. Thompson, 24, caught just 5 balls for 51 yards in 2012. But he brings an interesting skill set to the table as a home run threat. “I have athleticism and the ability to make big plays,” he said. “I'm fast, can stretch the field and have run the 40 in 4.23. I think the sky is the limit for me, but I still have to prove myself on the field.” HC John Harbaugh sounded less enthusiastic, saying he “could sneak in there” and that “the best player will play.” He’ll battle with Jacoby Jones, David Reed, LaQuan Williams and Tandon Doss for snaps alongside Torrey Smith. Smith, Ray Rice and Dennis Pitta will

Baltimore Ravens WR Tandon Doss is a candidate for a much bigger role in the team's offense after WR Anquan Boldin was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason. Doss should compete for playing time behind WRs

WRs LaQuan Williams, David Reed, Deonte Thompson and Aaron Mellette are the other receiving options that will compete in offseason workouts and training camp. Baltimore is open to signing a veteran wideout to compete in camp, as well. Doss said he's completely healthy right now and has worked hard on his durability. The Baltimore Ravens could use more two-tight end sets in 2013 to help overcome the loss of WR Anquan Boldin. "We've got some tight ends who can pick up the slack," assistant general manager Eric DeCosta siad. "Ed Dickson made some big plays last year in the Super Bowl, really played his best football in the playoffs. We're excited to see him become what we thought he was going to be. We really think this is his chance to become a really good tight end in the NFL. Obviously, we've got Dennis Pitta, we've got

But he's never been short on playmaking ability. "We're very excited about Jacoby and the progress he made throughout last season," Assistant GM Eric DeCosta said. Dallas Cowboys rookie WR Terrance Williams was one of the biggest deep threats in this draft class. Since the start of the 2011 season, Williams has 39 receptions and 17 TDs on passes 20 yards or more downfield. Both numbers lead the FBS.
Our View: The Cowboys didn't have a great draft, but the addition of Williams is a solid one. Some in the scouting community have compared Williams to
Torrey Smith (Ravens) because of his speed and ball tracking ability. He'll be WR3 for the Cowboys behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant in 2013. However, someday soon he'll be starting opposite Bryant.

He also hauled in 8 scoring passes to pace the Ravens. Smith still be the team's home-run hitter, but he'll need to contribute more on short and intermediate routes next season to become the complete wideout the Ravens need.

The 49ers have acquired WR Anquan Boldin from the Ravens in exchange for a 6th-round pick. The cap-strapped Ravens wanted to keep Boldin, but not at the $6 million he was scheduled to make in 2013. San Francisco took advantage of the situation. They acquire a physical, veteran possession receiver for dirt cheap. Boldin has trouble separating at 32 years old, but he knows how to use his frame and still possesses some of the strongest hands in the game. He'll be a nice complement to the younger, speedier Michael Crabtree. QB Colin Kaepernick now has a vast array of weapons at his disposal. His ceiling pushes even higher with the addition of Boldin. We'll have to see what the Ravens plan to do at WR opposite Torrey Smith.

Among the more intriguing are three rookie quarterbacks, one of whom is guaranteed to win a playoff game in their first year; a second year quarterback who took over in week ten; a Colt’s team who went from worst last year to a playoff team this year, riding an emotional high after the return of their head coach from a successful bout against leukemia; and a team that went from the favorite for a first round bye to the number three seed in a few short weeks.
These are the overall rankings for the playoffs. Some formats require you to choose from all the teams in the playoffs, others allow you to go week to week. These

Perhaps the dumbest thing a fantasy manager can possibly do is publish player ranks on a mainstream sports site on the morning of a draft. Definitely not recommended. Poor strategy, requiring a special combination of stupidity and hubris. Far from ideal.
Nonetheless, I'm doing it today. My first fantasy playoff draft is coming up in just a few short hours, and I'm publishing ranks in advance. (Again: Unwise). Obviously I'd prefer to post this thing much later in the afternoon, after the draft, but my schedule is pretty jammed. With the Ravens having already locked up the AFC North and playing for just the No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the playoffs, they have decided to rest him instead. That means rookie running back Bernard Pierce will get the start. FANTASY ANALYSIS: Say hello to reason No. 39,203 why playing for a fantasy football title in Week 17 is ill-advised. Healthy studs who would never be sitting in any other week are going to be inactive today, and it screws everything up. So there may not be a worse time to draft a 2013 fantasy league than today, before the final week of the 2012 regular season has even kicked off. We still have dozens of injuries ahead, plus the usual off-season player movement and coaching changes. And then there's April's NFL Draft.
Thus, we begin this feature with an important warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
It's fine for me to conduct a one-man 2013 mock in 2012, of course, because I'm a fully licensed fantasy professional. Ordinary citizens shouldn't think about drafting a league for another seven or eight months, however. Today's exercise is simply a guessing game, based on an incomplete picture of the league. It's theoretical fantasy football. But

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Ravens RB Ray Rice will NOT play against the Bengals this afternoon. He's completely healthy, but Baltimore will give him the week off with today's game unlikely to impact their playoff seeding. Rice has racked up 315 touches over the first 15 games. RB Bernard Pierce figures to start in his place and is a solid RB2 in fantasy. The rookie is averaging 5.2 yards per carry this season. Guys like Joe Flacco, Torrey Smith, and Anquan Boldin probably won't play much, if at all, today either. This is why all fantasy leagues should be wrapped up by Week 16.

Smith was able to practice on Thursday and Friday and reportedly gained full clearance over the weekend. He has 44 catches for 767 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. FANTASY ANALYSIS:

Pro Football Talk reports that Ravens WR Torrey Smithh (concussion) has been cleared to play in today's game against the Giants. He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. Although he's been ice cold lately, Smith always carries WR1 upside. And he has a plus matchup against the league's 29th-ranked WR defense. He's a classic boom/bust fantasy option.

Huddle Up: The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Smith is expected to play, but it's always extra murky when it comes to concussions, and those fantasy owners hoping to start Smith should definitely double-check the WR's official status on Sunday.

Ravens WR Torrey Smith (concussion) is listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Giants. He put in limited practices on Thursday and Friday. It's unclear if Smith has been cleared for game action, but HC John Harbaugh said Friday afternoon that he's "encouraged" by Smith's progress. We're expecting him to play, but owners planning on using him should add WR Jacoby Jones (or another late-game WR) as a handcuff.

Normally we give you an Injury Wrap in this space on Fridays, and we will get to plenty of injuries after the jump. But with less in-flux injury news than usual this week, and a few non-injury situations worth discussing, we're broadening the scope of today's piece. Good luck to everyone in their playoff games.
I've enjoyed the Danario Alexander run as much as anyone. I picked him up where I could, started him aggressively, blogged about him constantly. Until the Week 15 bagel, it was a fun and rewarding ride.
But in Week 16, a one-game season, there's no time for sentimentality and future speculation. If you don't like someone's chances at points this weekend, you cut the cord. And with
