Vitor Belfort Is Granted License, Will Face Chris Weidman At UFC 181 In December[Yardbarker: Wed 7/23 3:38 PM]
RIO DE JANEIRO -- There can only be one Bellator bantamweight champion.
Eduardo Dantas and Joe Warren, Bellator champion and interim champion, respectively, will square off for the undisputed 135-pound title in September, Dantas’ coach and manager Andre Pederneiras said during a media day at Nova Uniao on Wednesday.
"September," Pederneiras said when asked when Dantas will fight again. "He has a fight scheduled, but I don’t have the exact date of the fight."
Former UFC fighter and current nutrition consultant to the stars Mike Dolce has worked with many fighters to drop weight, including Daniel Cormier. Cormier, of course, became the number one UFC heavyweight contender but decided instead to drop down to the light heavyweight division and avoid fighting his friend and teammate, champion Cain Velasquez.
To help him get down in weight, Cormier brought in Dolce,
It will have been a very long time since former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz last fought when he steps into the cage September 27th against Takeya Mizugaki - About three years, actually. Despite the long lay off due to a series of serious injuries, Cruz is confident that he is back to 100 percent.
"I believe I'm me right now," he recently told Luke Thomas.
"I have no question in my mind. I believe I am who I always was. You're going to see
UFC middleweight contender Vitor Belfort has been granted a license by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) on Wednesday at a hearing in Las Vegas. Per commission orders, Belfort cannot compete prior to December, he must fight in Las Vegas for his next bout and is subject to random blood and urine testing no matter where he is. Belfort must also pay for the enhanced testing procedures.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission granted UFC middleweight competitor Vitor Belfort licensure to compete in the State of Nevada. He is expected to face Chris Weidman on December 6 in Las Vegas.
Vitor Belfort is once again licensed to compete in the State of Nevada.
The Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously granted the former UFC light-heavyweight champion licensure to fight in Nevada if the Brazilian agreed to three non-negotiable conditions. Firstly, the fight would not take place before December, with the second condition emphasizing that the bout is to take place in Nevada. The third condition was that Belfort would be subjected to any amount
Ahead of his bout against Bobby Green at UFC on Fox 12, Josh Thomson shares his thoughts on the UFC's higher weight classes.
It's long been known that the smaller weight class fighters are generally more technical. They're better wrestlers, better kickboxers, and better grapplers, at least from a pure technique stanpoint. But, Josh Thomson is taking his rhetoric a step further in suggesting that fighters in the higher weight classes aren't even really competing as mixed martial artists. It came up in this interview with Fox
UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis discussed his time on the sidelines recovering from a PCL injury, as well as his upcoming title fight against Gilbert Melendez.
Anthony Pettis may not feel the urge to endlessly defend himself on twitter but he does admit that the recent criticism directed at him has certainly gotten on his nerves.
The UFC lightweight champion has been out of action for the better part of the last year since defeating Benson Henderson via submission to win the championship. His lengthy spell on the sidelines has prompted a slew of frustrated lightweights to aim a handful of complaints in his direction. Some have expressed their
Live updates from the NSAC meeting which will feature Vitor Belfort's application for license and Chael Sonnen's disciplinary hearing.
We will have live updates right here at Bloody Elbow today as the Nevada State Athletic Commission meets. While there are a number of items on the official agenda, the most interesting to MMA fans will be the application for a license for Vitor Belfort and the hearing of disciplinary complaint for Chael Sonnen.
Belfort failed a drug test ahead of his planned bout with Chris Weidman that
Not that Noad Lahat is looking past Steven Siler, whom he meets at UFC on FOX 12 in San Jose Saturday night…but Lahat is looking past Steven Siler. Not from a place of competitive superiority, but because he feels he has to.
Lahat is the UFC’s second Israeli-born fighter. With the recent outbreak of violence in Gaza, with missiles flying over his homeland and his family ducking for cover, Lahat is relegated to his most immediate commitment. That’s his Saturday commitment. That’s the fun and games part, the payoff to a long
Dana White explains why Chris Cariaso will get a shot at Demetrious Johnson while saying that fans will complain about Johnson no matter who he fights.
The reception to Chris Cariaso's flyweight title shot at UFC 177 has been far from positive. Cariaso is ranked number eight in the UFC's rankings and is sitting as a massive underdog to champion Demetrious Johnson. Given his low ranking and the fact that his current three fight win streak has come against fighters with poor UFC records, many fans and media members feel that Cariaso simply doesn't deserve a title shot.
Hendricks has had plenty of time to think about Georges St-Pierre and all other comers while recovering from a bicep injury.

EA Sports have rectified the snub, and has now added T.J. Dillashaw and two others to the roster of their UFC video game.
Newly crowned UFC champion T.J. Dillashaw wasn't in the original EA Sports UFC video game roster, as for some reason, they chose other bantamweights such as Mike Easton or Erik Perez over the Team Alpha Male star.
They obviously had no way to predict that Dillashaw would have that

A few updates on what's been going on in the MMA & UFC Twitterverse
Barboza wants another shot at fellow top 10 lightweight Cerrone inside the Octagon, and he feels he deserves one after stopping Evan Dunham in the first round at UFC Fight Night 45.
"My goal is to fight the best," Barboza told MMAFighting.com. "Every time I fight I feel more prepared. After my fight with Cerrone, I realized I’m at their same level. I can easily fight anyone (at the top 10). I want a well-ranked opponent,
A look at the whose place in the UFC is secure and who might be making a last-ditch effort at this Saturday's UFC on Fox.
Likely Cut with a Loss
Steven Siler (23-12, 5-3 UFC) - Siler has steadily slid down the rankings since his KO of Mike Thomas Brown, landing him this Saturday across from Noad Lahat (currently 0-1 in the UFC). I like Siler quite a bit, but I don't know where he could go within the division if he can't get past someone with so slight a promotional record. He's an action fighter and comes pretty cheap, so I don't think it's a foregone conclusion, but Siler is definitely at risk.
UFC lightweight Josh Thomson better keep his head on a swivel the next time he strolls into the American Kickboxing Academy. A training partner to UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and light heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier, Josh Thomson aparently doesn't think much of athletes competing in MMA's weightier weight classes.
Just what exactly did Chuck Liddell do for Zuffa when he retired and took a desk job with them? Find out in this lost interview from 2011, as well as his thoughts on Overeem and who Chuck wanted to fight before retirement!
The most anticipated fight card of the fall finally has a venue. UFC 178 is slated to take place on September 27, 2014 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, promotion officials announced on Tuesday.
In order to complete the booking, Kings of Leon, the popular American rock band who is scheduled to headline the upcoming Boulevard Brew Fest, agreed to shift their September 27 performance from the MGM Grand Garden Arena to The Lot, which is located along the Las Vegas Strip.
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will look to defend his title for a record eighth consecutive time when he rematches against top-ranked Swedish contender
A look at the August 23rd UFC Fight Night show in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Ben Henderson and Rafael dos Anjos meet in a five-round main event.
Next month the UFC heads to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a promising looking Fight Night card that features Ben Henderson and Rafael dos Anjos in a big lightweight affair. Rather surprisingly, Francis Carmont is matched up with Thales Leites, and that's been pegged as the co-main event. It should be noted though that the poster actually promotes Demian Maia vs. Mike Pyle, so take that for what it's worth.
The highlight of the main card is clearly Brandon Thatch against Jordan Mein, which is basically violence overload if you're a fan of both fighters. Featherweight prospect Mirsad Bektic
We all know the story by now. The once-UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has had arguably the worst luck of any fighter on the roster, at least in terms of physical health.
Not one, but two knee complications. Then a groin injury. All told, he'll have been away from competition for three years by the time he returns against Takeya Mizugaki at on September 27th at UFC 178.
Naturally, everyone wants to know: is Cruz finally ready to return? Is this it? Will he make it to the finish line ready to go? According to 'The
The one thing that was guaranteed after a massive crowd turned out for Conor McGregor Saturday in Dublin, Ireland, following weeks of frequently over-the-top trash talking that everybody and his brother would want to fight him if he won.
McGregor stopped Diego Brandao in the first round and, predictably, heard a lot of fighters calling his name.
Dustin Poirier, though, is the one who will get the call. The
UFC featherweight fighter Dustin Poirier joined Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour to discuss his opinion on Ireland’s Conor McGregor, as well as the hype and starpower he has generated over the past year.
Dustin Poirier is bitterly disappointed that fans are discussing a budding Irish talent instead of a proven WEC veteran for a potential featherweight title shot.
A longtime competitor in the UFC's featherweight division, Poirier has gone 8-2 since joining the promotion following the WEC merger, and has only lost bouts to Chan Sung Jung and Cub Swanson. He is currently riding a three-fight win
Days after headlining a UFC show in his home country, Irish featherweight Conor McGregor is headed for Las Vegas to make his PPV debut.
After Conor McGregor (15-2) dispatched Diego Brandao in the UFC Fight Night Dublin main event, the Irishman moved into the top 10 of the featherweight rankings -- well, technically 11th if you count the champion Jose Aldo -- and fans were left wondering what was next for the outspoken and highly entertaining prospect. It took only 3 days for us to find out the answer, as McGregor will face Dustin
Conor McGregor is getting right back to work.
McGregor (15-2) defeated Diego Brandao via first-round TKO on Saturday in Dublin. The win marked the Irishman's 11th in a row. McGregor has been calling out Poirier, among many others in the featherweight division, for several months, and after his win this weekend Poirier said he isn't impressed with McGregor's body of work.
Dillashaw recently gave a few moments of his time to the Brazilian press, and it sounds like he's all confidence ahead of his rematch with Renan Barao.
Months after his retirement in 2011, Chuck Liddell talks with fans about what is next for his career after hanging up the gloves and made predictions about fights - did they come true?
Back in March, 2011, I went to the UFC 128 weigh-ins in Newark, New Jersey to film them for my site. Before that got started, a special UFC Fight Club event was happening (for Fight Club members only), which was a question and answer session with Chuck Liddell. "The Iceman" had just recently retired only a few months earlier, and this was probably the first time he did an event like this since then.
In part two of this video series from 2011, Chuck discusses the Strikeforce & UFC merger, his favorite opponents to beat up, and if movies are in his future!
The fiery Featherweight missed his chance to silence Conor McGregor when he had to pull out of their UFC Dublin bout with an injury, so let the trash talk continue.
UFC Featherweight Cole Miller was supposed to fight Conor McGregor at UFC Dublin this past Saturday. Unfortunately a hand injury got in the way and with McGregor rocketing into the UFC top 10 it seems like Miller's shot at the Irish star has passed.
Five years ago, Tom Egan was the first (true) Irishman to fight in the UFC. His debut coincided with the UFC’s inaugural visit to Dublin, the capital city, at UFC 93. When Egan came out for his fight with Brit John Hathaway, he was given a hero's welcome from the partisan crowd. Until then, and even after, Irish MMA presented itself in the surrogate form of Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis, an American.
And in a sense, the UFC’s return to Dublin this past Saturday at UFC Fight Night 46 had at least a little -- and possibly everything -- to do with Egan and the pop he got that night in January 2009.
The then 20-year old Egan didn’t beat Hathaway;
UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem suggested that Fabricio Werdum may edge Cain Velasquez in their title fight at UFC 180, and that he would be interested in re-matching the Brazilian for the heavyweight strap.
UFC 180 will mark the UFC's inaugural trip to Mexico and will feature a heavyweight title fight between the division's champion Cain Velasquez and Brazilian contender Fabricio Werdum. The title fight headliner is a compelling and competitive contest that has fans and pundits mulling over the outcome. Even
UFC women’s bantamweight competitor Amanda Nunes revealed that she believes she will be ready to face Ronda Rousey with a solid performance against the returning Cat Zingano at UFC 178.
Although UFC 178 will mark the long-awaited return of top women's bantamweight competitor Cat Zingano, Brazil's Amanda Nunes will look to halt her opponent's title aspirations with an upset victory in their three-round contest.
Paul Daley might get what he was hoping for.
"I think I'm going to get a tough first fight, beat that person, and then I think I'll be in a position to fight Douglas Lima," Daley told Ariel Helwani. "That's not contracted, that's not been discussed or anything. But the way I see it, coming back to Bellator, I think a big win over one of their
