Bridgewater says no to Heisman hype

After leading his team to a Sugar Bowl victory last season, Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is considered, at the very least, an early candidate in the running to win this year's Heisman Trophy.
Bovada currently gives the junior 12-1 odds of taking home college football's most prestigious personal award. That puts him tied for fourth among the betting favorites behind reigning Heisman winner Johnny Manziel (9-2).
For most 20-year-olds, that kind of preseason recognition would be pretty cool, not to mention a good launching-off point for a Heisman campaign.
But Bridgewater isn't most 20-year-olds, and rather than having the university go out of its way to tout his Heisman candidacy, he's done the opposite: He's asked them not to mention it at all.
"I don't pay attention to it. I'm all about this team," Bridgewater told WDRB-TV in Louisville . "I'm all about the team having success. I'm all about my teammates becoming better players. The Heisman is

The college football is upon us closer than many have expected, as college football fans around the nation prepare to buy their new team gear and fire up the grills for what is to be an exciting football season with the all new playoff format setting. You cannot just sit back and smile even if your team has not won the national title or a bowl game in a decade you have to jump for joy that the NCAA finally has gotten rid of the huge computer system that even had the President of the United States spilling his two cents in on the broken system.
But instead this year you will see many old football teams making their name even bigger with a deep run and at the same time you’re going to see a Cinderella team that we all have grown to adore like many of the men’s basketball teams, Instead I want to cover the Army Black Knights football program. Yes I know they haven’t made a name for their program for they are a military academy and yea their bowl game is the Army Navy game. ...

You know how we know Michigan and Ohio State have arguably the greatest rivalry in North American sports? The schools never seem to run out of creative ways to take shots at one another. The Buckeyes and Wolverines have brought us countless epic battles on the field over the years, but the way the schools express their hatred for one another off the football field and basketball court is equally entertaining.
Take the ball you see above, for example. Michigan wide receiver Bo Dever showed us the team’s new footballs on Tuesday, which as you can see feature an inscription that reads “Made in USA, not in Ohio”
The Wolverines have gone to great lengths to renew their hatred for their fiercest rival since the end of the season. Between their new pigskins and that jersey quarterback Devin Gardner wore during the spring game, they have already fired several offseason shots. Your move, Buckeyes.

Jake Golic is the son of Mike Golic. Like his father, Jake played at Notre Dame. Unlike his father, Jake is not going to play at Notre Dame his whole college career. His father announced it on his radio show today, but Jake also tweeted the news that he is transferring to Cincinnati.
That screen cap is from the linked ESPN piece.
Jake is able to play at Cincinnati right away, as he has already graduated. Golic participated in 5 games at ND, 3 of them in 2010 and 2 of them last year. He had no stats as a member of the Fighting Irish.
Jake Golic is listed as a tight end. Will he be a tight end at Cincinnati? Will he contribute stats? Will he play more than 5 games? We don't know any of these things. Jake probably came to Cincinnati in hopes that he will be able to do all of those things and do them very well. I hope that he does because UC has a hole at tight end with Travis Kelce being on an NFL roster and all.
Best of luck to Jake Golic.

Stoops was quoted as saying “Just thinking of all these, so, so many families that are devastated,” Stoops said. “This will be a long-term effort to get everyone back on their feet.”
Monday’s tornado has claimed more than 24 lives, including children. It has been initially rated as an EF4, with winds between 166-200 MPH. The city of Moore has been hit twice before in recent history with great damage and loss of life. Officials are still trying to come up with an accurate death toll for this tragedy.

Teddy Bridgewater tells Louisville he doesn’t want Heisman campaign, wants focus on team

Heisman Trophy campaigns by schools don't make sense, or at least they shouldn't.
Voters shouldn't be swayed by football cards or billboards or other kooky items (Kansas State sent out band-aids to pump up Collin Klein's candidacy last year). They should be swayed by watching players, analyzing numbers and making correct decisions on who to vote for. Anyone who needs a promotional item mailed to them to know who to vote for the Heisman Trophy shouldn't have a ballot. But, the campaigns for individuals roll on anyway.
Just not at Louisville this year.
Cardinals quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is one of the best players in college football, told Louisville he does not want a Heisman campaign,

The Military Bowl is getting a venue change, and a slightly more appropriate one at that. With the announcement Monday that Conference USA added a tie-in to the Military Bowl came the official news that the bowl would be moving from RFK Memorial Stadium in Washington D.C. to Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis where the Naval Academy plays…

Accidents can be costly.
Just ask the newest owner of Alabama's broken 2011 BCS Championship trophy.
The crystal ball (or what is left of it) -- it was shattered after being knocked off its stand by the father of long snapper Carson Tinker -- was put on auction Sunday afternoon at the school's celebrity golf tournament. It was valued at 30,000 when insurance replaced it.
So, naturally, it sold for much, much more when the bidding wars started among the Crimson Tide faithful.
The final reported price: 105,000.
That's triple the trophy's actual value.
So instead about being a good-natured punchline for the rest of time -- after all, insurance covered the whole ordeal -- Mr. Tinker can, in fact, claim yet another contribution to the athletic department.
As if anything could go wrong for Alabama football lately, Nick Saban's program can throw another six-figure bonus into the equation.
This is yet another reason athletic departments utilize these types of events to market "historic&

The Pac-12 North Division is set to be one of the most interesting conference title races in 2013.
Stanford and Oregon could both rank in the top five of some preseason polls and should be the top-two teams in the Pac-12 for 2013.

Notre Dame had a disappointing end to the 2012 season, but the loss to Alabama in the BCS Championship shouldn’t overshadow what’s taking place in South Bend.
The Fighting Irish have made major strides under coach Brian Kelly, and there’s plenty of talent on the roster to make another run at a national championship in 2013 and 2014.

1. I thought from the get-go that Florida offensive line coach Tim Davis's reference to Alabama coach Nick Saban as “the devil himself” sounded like a measure of respect wrapped in a throwaway joke. I think that’s how it should have been taken. The way I hear it, when Gator coaches hear that Alabama is looking at a recruit, they watch the recruit’s video very carefully. They don’t afford that level of respect to any other staff, whether the head coach has horns or not.
