Now the A's made a switch Friday night, however temporary or permanent -- time will tell -- putting Adam Rosales at SS, Lowrie at 2B and leaving Eric Sogard in a role he is better suited to playing: Utility accountant and part-time elf. With any luck, this switch will coincide with an A's surge. Texas shows signs of vulnerability, with Matt Harrison and Alexi Ogando currently on the DL to create a rotation that is 3/5 Tepesch, Grimm, and We'll See.

In the sixth, though, Oakland struck with just enough to ruin the second fine Royals pitching performance in as many nights, with Brandon Moss' RBI triple providing the difference in Oakland's 2-1 victory at the sold-out Coliseum.
Eric Sogard had one of the A's first two hits off Santana, but he was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double in the third inning.
Santana walked the next batter, Coco Crisp, and Jed Lowrie tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center.
A's starter Tommy Milone wasn't at all efficient, yet he was fairly effective anyway in ending his career-high five-game losing streak.
Chris Young was back in Oakland's lineup after missing 18 days with a strained left quad, and to make room on the roster, the A's designated first baseman Daric Barton, the team's longest-tenured player, for assignment.

Why hello there, Miss .500. Don't you look particularly fetching tonight. We certainly have missed you.
It wasn't as pretty and flashy as last night's start, but Tommy Milone's gritty, gutsy and ultimately wildly successful six innings helped lead the A's to their second consecutive victory, and their first two-game win streak in the month of May. Believe it or not, it's the first time the A's have won back-to-back games scoring two runs or fewer since May 14-15, 1993.
Milone had runners all over the bases tonight, including the bases-loaded, no outs jam in the second inning, but he managed to scatter his five hits and three walks in a most opportune fashion. The only run Milone allowed today was in the very first inning.

Josh Reddick took dry swings for the first time Saturday since going on the disabled list with a sprained wrist.
A’s manager Bob Melvin commented, “so far so good,” in response to how the session went. It is a good sign that he has not suffered a setback considering that he commented that surgery was not out of the question for him less than a week ago.
Reddick is currently batting .152 with one homer and 14 RBI for the A’s. He had been playing with the injured wrist for most of the season though, having originally injured it while sliding into a wall in foul territory against the Houston Astros on April 7 in the first week of the season.
The A’s would like to see him return to the form he showed in 2012 when he led the Athletics with 32 homers and displayed Gold Glove worthy defense in right field.
He is eligible to come off the disabled list on May 24, when the A’s play the Astros in Houston.

A's manager Bob Melvin put Young into the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Young, who had been out with a strained left quad, batted seventh and was in right field.
An offseason acquisition from Arizona, Young has struggled in his first season with the A's. He was batting just .172 with 15 RBIs in 23 games before getting hurt.
To clear room, Oakland first baseman Daric Barton was designated for assignment. Barton hit .143 with one home run and three RBIs in eight games with the A's.

The Athletics made a pair of roster moves Saturday afternoon, activating outfielder Chris Young from the 15-day disabled list and designating first baseman Daric Barton for assignment to make room on the 25-man roster.
Prior to going on the disabled list on May 4 (retroactive to April 30), Young had been batting .172 with 15 RBI in 23 games with the A’s. Ten of his 15 hits are for extra bases, including five doubles, one triple and four home runs.
Young went 1-for-1 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base while starting in center field in his only rehab game with Sacramento against Oklahoma City on Thursday. He was with the A’s on Friday and put on an impressive power display during batting practice prior to being activated for Saturday’s game.
Barton, batting .143 with a homer and three RBIs in eight games, was selected from Sacramento on May 8 and added to the 40-man roster as well as the 25-man roster. His designation opens a spot on the 40-man roster.

The good news: Chris Young is a step closer to returning to the lineup, as the A’s reinstated the outfielder from the DL on Saturday. The bad news (well, for one person): the A’s had to once again designate first baseman Daric Barton for assignment to make room for Young.
In eight games since returning to the A’s on May 8, Barton, what’s new, hit a woeful .143/.217/.286. Young’s return and Barton’s departure means Brandon Moss, who had been playing in right field as outfielders were dropping like flies, can return to first base.
Barton will have to clear waivers before being sent down to Triple-A. He was previously DFA’ed after spring training this year. Nobody else wanted him. So continues the sadz face that has been Daric Barton major league voyage.

That's correct. Prior to the White Sox 3-0 win over the Angels Friday night in Anaheim, there was a "milk the cow" competition right down on field between Chicago reliever Nate Jones and Los Angeles reliever Ryan Brasier.
That's Brasier (pronounced brey-zher), not brassiere as Tom "Wimpy" Paciorek hilariously (and perhaps intentionally) states during the clip. You know Tom.
Anyway, Brasier ended up getting his hand raised in the "milk the cow" competition, which we're sure served as a tremendous warmup for both pitchers had they been needed for an appearance later (they weren't). But the highlight of the entire clip really comes around the 1:16 mark when Hawk Harrelson begins to recall the time he rode Charlie-O the Mule, which was the Kansas City Athletics and Oakland A's mascot from 1963 to 1976, around Yankee Stadium.
Without spoiling too much of the story, we can tell you that yes, there is a picture. We can also tell you the story involves Roger Maris, a fungo bat, a bucking mule, Hawk swallowing his chaw, $25, and is definitely worth the two minute investment of your time. Trust me.

The A’s had an amazing 2012 season culminating in an AL West Crown. Their recipe was simple yet executed to simplistic perfection; pitching, defense, and clutch hits from the entire lineup, 1-9. Fast forward to this season. The Green and Gold have been hit hard by what is seemingly the injury plague in 2013. This forces the lineup to be altered nearly daily to make the best possible match ups occur. However, one part of the lineup continues to struggle and it could cost the A’s their chance at October baseball this season if it does not change their production quickly.
