Greetings from Camden Yards, where the Orioles will try to snap a five-game losing streak. The O’s are 3-7 over their last 10 games, which his the first time they’ve had such a rough stretch since June 30-July 13 of last year.
*Wei-Yin Chen will leave for Sarasota, Fla. tomorrow and get an early start on his rehab. He will start on the stationary bike and hopes to progress to running at some point next week. Chen, who has a Grade 2 oblique strain, will not pick up a ball for a while with manager Buck Showalter saying today he’d feel “fortunate” if Chen was a week away from a throwing program.
*J.J. Hardy is batting third today, which Showalter said is more of a product of trying to provide the toughest lineup

COMMENTARY | Pitch No. 128 was upcoming for the 22-year-old left-handed hurler from Puerto Rico. The game was far from in doubt as the Milwaukee Brewers led the Baltimore Orioles 7-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning, yet no one in attendance at Memorial Stadium had left the ballpark.

Rick Peterson looked on from the Bowie Baysox’s dugout as Kevin Gausman stated his case. The Orioles’ prized right hander decimated the Trenton Thunder over six innings, strike outing ten and allowing few well hit balls. With Baltimore four games behind the American League East division leaders and their rotation in shambles, expect Gausman to earn a promotion after the super-two deadline passes in mid-June. In eight starts with Double-A Bowie, Gausman has been nearly untouchable. He’s third in the Eastern League in FIP, and owns a 25.7% strikeout rate and a 2.6% walk rate.
The high-waisted 6’3″ right hander has a long, lean frame and he’s listed at just 190 lbs. There is plenty of room for growth throughout his body, if he should choose to cultivate mass. In the windup, Gausman has a high leg kick. He brings his left leg to his hands, which rest chest high at takeaway before he delivers the ball from a high three quarter arm slot.

Rotation
Freddy Garcia
Remember when it seemed great that the O's had a bunch of guys that could easily plug into the 5th starter role and give a decent outing? Those days seem part of the distant pass as Garcia is manning the 3rd spot in the rotation and getting flat-out hammered. Wednesday proved to be his worst start of the season, as he was tagged for 4 runs in less than 4 innings. Tonight, he gets the nod against C.C Sabathia. Who will own it? I can take a guess.

I thought this was a misprint, or an Oxycontin flashback from 2011. Freddy Garcia is pitching against us tonight. Yes, that Freddy Garcia. The Chief. He's still alive. He's still pitching.Listen, I have nothing but respect for The Chief. He pitched well for us - in fact, one of his best outings came in a must game against Baltimore. But two years ago, he was on his last legs. How old can the guy be? A hundred? He's going against C.C. Sabathia. I'm telling you, this is scary. Some of these guys, they're like zombies - they just keep walking and snarling, and until somebody shoots them in the brain, they'll eat your liver. If we lose tonight, it's like losing to Houston. It's like losing to yourself. It's five losses, bottled up into one. It's not Freddy Garcia. It's Freddy Kruger.

The Orioles needed a bat since Ryan Flaherty was demoted to the minors.
I feel bad for Flaherty, but it was a long time coming and the second base position offensively has become a black hole.
I would think that Buck Showalter and the Orioles will give Yamaico Navarro a chance at second base. Honestly, he could not do much worse than Flaherty with the bat..

Ryan Flaherty today was demoted to Triple-A Norfolk. The fans' wishes have come through. I was at the game on Wednesday, and boy, was he railed bad by them.
Buck Showalter gave him every chance to succeed as his name was penciled more often than it should have been. Flaherty was just not hitting, and while the offense has done it's part throughout the season so far, the bottom of the lineup has been struggling. Sadly, Flaherty was a major part of it.
Once Flaherty starts hitting at the lower level, he'll be back. He came through big at points last season and Showalter seems to like him; however, right now, he seriously needed a change of

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Matt Moore pitched seven innings of five-hit ball to stay unbeaten, Luke Scott and Matt Joyce homered and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 Sunday for a three-game sweep.
Moore (8-0) gave up one run, struck out three and walked one. The left-hander has won nine straight decisions, breaking the franchise record of eight set last year by David Price.
The Rays' ninth win in 11 games put them a season-high three games over .500 (23-20) and lifted Tampa Bay into a third-place tie with skidding Baltimore in the AL East. The Rays had been in fourth since April 20.
Adam Jones had two hits, stole two bases and drove in a run for the Orioles, who have dropped five straight -- all at home.

The Baltimore Orioles have now lost five straight games courtesy of a sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays, including a 3-1 loss yesterday afternoon. It is the first time the Rays have swept the O's since May 6-8, 2011.
Pitching was not the issue yesterday as it has been the past few games, as Orioles starting pitcher Chris Tillman (3-2) pitched very well, and certainly well enough to win the game. Although he allowed two solo homers, including one to former Oriole, Luke Scott, Tillman executed his pitches for the most part in yesterday's outing. He ended up tossing six innings, while allowing three runs on five

Let’s be frank about one thing; a controversial home run call did not have a direct impact on the Baltimore Orioles losing to 3-1 to Tampa yesterday afternoon, their fifth straight loss. Norfolk 3, Durham 2: If you squint, you can take away some positives from Zach Britton's start. He only allowed one earned run and his sinker worked to great effect (ten groundouts), but he walked five Bulls in six innings. Travis Ishikawa hit another home run and Little Jerome went 2-3 with a double. If you're wondering how Zelous Wheeler's been doing since he moved up to Norfolk, I'll tell you all he does is get base hits. No extra bases, no walks, no strikeouts. After getting hits in six straight games since going hitless in his Tides debut, Brandon Wood was hitless and had an error. Russ Canzler and Buck Britton were held hitless as well.
...a trend we shall see repeated.

Here at the end of a 5-game losing streak, Orioles fans are beginning to wonder if the time has come to hit the panic button. To that I would say, “Make note of where the button is, but don’t smash it just yet.”
The past five games have been painful indeed. However, two of them were pitched well enough to have most often been a win (if there was run support), and two of them had sufficient run production to have most often been a win if there was reasonably solid pitching. My guess is that the poor pitching will be more remembered than the games with poor hitting.

The Hickory Crawdads held the Delmarva Shorebirds to one hit on Sunday, over 14 frames. Hickory who is the Class-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers used a total of five pitchers to frustrate the minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
C.J. Edwards allowed one hit in a compete game victory in the first game of the double dip before four pitchers combined to hold Delmarva hit-less in the second game.
In the second game Luis Para pitched the first three innings in his debut for the Crawdads before Keone IKela, Ryan Bores and Alex Claudio finished out the final four innings. Brady Wagner of the Shorebirds was saddled with a tough loss after allowing just one run.

Exactly one year ago to the day, Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect and Bowie Baysox ace, Kevin Gausman was gearing up for the SEC tournament as the anchor of the rotation for an LSU baseball program that has established expectations of excellence; where anything less than booking a trip to Omaha for the College World Series is deemed a failure. Gausman went out last May 18 against the number one team in the nation, the University of South Carolina in a match-up of two of the NCAA’s premiere baseball institutions. The flame-throwing right hander, who is no stranger to hitting triple digits on the radar gun, out-dueled the Gamecocks ace, Michael Roth, that afternoon and delivered one of the bookmark starts of his young career; a complete game victory to propel his Tigers and ultimately his standing as the most attractive arm in the MLB Draft.
