On Monday night (May 14) I was subjected to several texts, Facebook messages, and even my own dad asking me what was up with "my" Los Angeles Lakers. Well folks, I'll tell you what's up with my Los Angeles Lakers; they got absolutely spanked by Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and the rest of the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1.

2012 was mostly forgettable for the Golden State Warriors.  A rash of injuries plagued the
pride of the Bay Area.  Franchise player Monta Ellis was dealt to Milwaukee for center Andrew Bogut, who has yet to debut for the Warriors.  First-year (and first time ever) head coach Mark Jackson failed to change the fortune of the ne’er do well Warriors. 

Last but not least, the team allegedly tanked down the stretch to give themselves the best possible chance of keeping their draft pick.  Golden State’s first round pick will go to Utah unless it falls within the top seven picks.  In what seemed to be the only break that went the Warriors way this year, the team won a coin flip with Toronto and is slotted to pick seventh barring any major draft lottery shakeups. 

Assuming Golden State hangs onto their own pick, they'll have a tough decision to make between several deserving players, and will also look to free agency to replace departing players and to upgrade weak positions.  Here are Golden State’s biggest targets both in the draft and in free agency.

The NBA playoff season is in full swing with the Golden State Warriors out of the playoff picture.

Sometime in mid-March, or maybe even last December 25, the Warriors were simply playing out the season because they had to, but that’s not to say the season wasn’t full of intriguing storylines.

The daunting, shortened campaign saw countless injuries to key players. There was the official changing of the (shooting) guard before the trading deadline, and ultimately the preseason playoff predictions slowly waned into tank mode in order to bone up for next season.

The torturous end to the Warriors’ season brought about a slate of final grades for the frontcourt and backcourt players. But who was the team’s best player this year? Who was the team’s worst? And who was the Dubs’ biggest surprise?

Let’s hand out some awards to the Warriors for the 2011-2012 campaign.

NBA Rumors: Breaking Down Teams That Should Trade for Ben Gordon

With the 2012 NBA season getting close to the end, there is already rumors of trade talks.

Bulls’ insider Sam Smith tells Bulls.com about the possibility that former Chicago star shooting guard Ben Gordon could be on the move:

Ben’s in. I’ve been hearing that the Pistons believe they’ll have something going for Ben this offseason.

There are plenty of teams on the market that will be looking for a stellar shooting guard, and Gordon may be the kind of player that could be great again under a different system.

His career is dying in Detroit.

 

Chicago Bulls

While it would take some salary cap work, the Chicago Bulls would love to get back the shooting guard in Ben Gordon that should have never left. That’s what big money does to a person’s judgment.

Like a jilted lover that comes back to the arms of the person they left, Gordon would love to become part of a Bulls team that desperately needs help at shooting guard.

Add in the possibility that Derrick Rose may not be ready to start 2012, and trading for Gordon does not seem as far-fetched as it did when he originally left the team in 2009.

 

Los Angeles Lakers

Besides Kobe Bryant, there is no depth at either guard position for the Lakers. With more than one expendable contract, Los Angeles has the pieces and desire needed to get a deal done with Detroit for Gordon.

Gordon could walk onto that Lakers team from Day 1 and be the bench player that could take pressure off Kobe Bryant and keep the points coming when the Los Angeles star is on the bench.

The fans also cannot forget that Gordon has played some point guard in his career and could help run the offense with Kobe on the floor late in games. If anyone can benefit from the Bryant double teams, it’s Ben Gordon.

 

Golden State Warriors

The perfect fit for Ben Gordon would clearly be the Golden State Warriors, but it will be interesting to see if they could hammer out the financial details of this trade.

Golden State needs a shooting guard, but the new regime would also like one that can defend the position. Gordon fills both roles very well.

With a very young team in Golden State, Gordon would walk on and be one of the on-court leaders and main focal points of the offense. That much pressure would force Gordon to bring his A-game every time.
