We wanted to try something new, and put together a special Dog Days edition of the Bulldog Blog newsletter, packed with information to help you get started on the right foot at Fresno State. We included descriptions and links to everything from the tutoring opportunities here on campus, to how to get involved in clubs and Greek Life. So to all those checking out the blog for the first time, welcome!

The Fresno State Bulldogs were back to work on Monday, on the field bright and early for the start of the first day of their strength and conditioning program following a three week break. They ran, then they lifted, and they will continue through leading up to the start of fall camp and a season that comes with high expectations after winning the Mountain West Conference a year ago.

Angie Cates Moore stepping down as women’s golf coach

Fresno State women’s golf coach Angie Cates Moore is stepping down from her position after serving nine years as the only head coach in the program’s history.

Cates Moore, who has been the Bulldogs’ coach since their inaugural 2004-05 season, is stepping down to spend more time with her family. Her resignation will become effective on Aug. 1.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my coaching career and will miss being affiliated with Fresno State. It was an honor to originate the women’s golf program over nine years ago and I have been blessed with many incredible student-athletes that brought pride and success to our program,” said Cates Moore.

“We were also very fortunate to be surrounded with a wonderful support staff and a community that was so generous with their support and time. While I will sincerely miss coaching, I look forward to more time at home to be with my husband and raise our young daughter.”

In her time with the Bulldogs, Cates Moore led Fresno State to the 2008 WAC Championship and a NCAA West Regional appearance, 17 All-American Scholars along with two WAC individual champions.

Cates Moore was the 2005 and 2008 WAC Coach of the Year.

Fresno State will start an immediate national search to find a new women’s golf coach.

Fresno State will open fall camp on Aug. 1, likely without offensive tackle Kolby Drew, a transfer from Palomar College and one of six offensive linemen in its 2013 recruiting class. According to sources, the 6-foot-5, 280-pound Drew is unlikely to enroll in school because of a family issue.

Drew was an intriguing prospect for the Bulldogs, who have depth issues in their offensive line. Despite playing for a team that went only 4-6 and 2-4 in the Southern Conference, he was a first-team all-conference and all-state selection by the California Community College Football Coaches Association.
