A trip to the Final Four is on the line in the 109th meeting of "Lacrosse's Greatest Rivalry" when Maryland meets Johns Hopkins Saturday in Annapolis.Notes from Clemson coach Dabo Swinney
Source: ACC Football Blog
AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. -- The story of the spring at Clemson was the development of receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who looked like a different player on the field for the Tigers. All you need for proof is what he did in the first quarter of the spring game -- five catches for 100 yards. Coach Dabo Swinney called him the MVP of the spring, and said during the ACC spring meetings that he could not be prouder of Hopkins' development. "Part of it goes back to the fact that he hasn’t had an offseason as an athlete," Swinney said.W. Lacrosse. #3 Terps Seek Final Four Bid Saturday

Here's a look at those who made names for themselves, those who fine-tuned some strengths and those who burst onto the scene this spring in the ACC. WR DeAndre Hopkins, Clemson: Hopkins had seven catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers' spring game, including five for 100 in the first quarter. Coach Dabo Swinney called him the team's spring MVP, and he and Sammy Watkins could form the top receiver tandem in the nation. RB Rolandan Finch, Boston College: Finch will have to carry a bigger load with Montel Harris off the team, and he stepped up in the spring game when the three men ahead of him were all banged-up, rushing for 196 yards on 27 carries.Introducing Maryland's Incoming 2012 Freshmen: Sam Cassell Jr.

Denver vs #1 Loyola Saturday 2:30 at Annapolis
A game I am really looking forward to watch. I have a lot of problems with Denver even making the tournament. Without Denver’s win over Duke on “rewards” night where is their quality win. 2 shots to beat Loyola in the Mile High City and no victories. If Dalton and his wings can go 50-50 with Chase Carrero at he X position, Loyola will win again and Justice will be served. As great as Loyola’s season has been believe me nobody remembers who the quarterfinal losers are. Loyola 15 Denver 11
#3 Duke vs Colgate
Maryland was chastised by Inside lacrosse and the rankings guys for losing to to Colgate on the road. What does that say for UMass? Well now Colgate is in the Elite 8. But it’s midnight for Cinderella. Duke is just too experienced and Danowski will figure out how to slow down Peter Baum. Costabile (who was just traded to the Lizards) will dominate at the X position. Rob Rotanz has been on fire and will certainly have a multiple goal game. Duke 12 Colgate 10
#5 UVA vs #4 Notre Dame
Kevin Corrigan is a great coach. Kevin Corrigan also plays a boring brand of lacrosse. The championship game with Duke 2 years back was virtually unwatchable. Please don’t bring up Maryland’s stall warnings. at least the Terps always look for transitions. But the X factor in this game is certainly the greatest player in the college game today and that of course is Steele. Nobody wants to play UVA. A totally different team come tournament time. UVA 8 Irish 5. I am yawning already.

Bayhawks Acquire Nicky Polanco for the Rights To CJ Costabile
Source: Terp Talk by Bruce
The Long Island Lizards have dealt perennial all-star Nicky Polanco to the Chesapeake Bayhawks in a deal that gives Long Island the rights to Duke long-stick midfielder C.J. Costabile, multiple sources confirmed to Inside Lacrosse.
The deal ends speculation about Polanco’s future, as the two-time MLL Defensive Player of the Year has not played in the Lizards’ two games this year. It also reunites Polanco with former defensive partner Brian Spallina, who this offseason was picked up by the Bayhawks.Polanco, a second-round Collegiate Draft pick in 2013, and a second-round Collegiate Draft pick in 2014 will go to the Bayhawks in exchange for the rights to Costabile and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2013 Collegiate Draft.
Comments: The tremendous play of Adam rand at the X position allowed the Bayhawks to trade the long pole specialist.
Maryland Basketball: Why Terps Will Beat out Temple, KU, Nova for Rysheed Jordan
Source: Bleacher Report NCAAB
When a highly-touted recruit from Philadelphia eliminates power programs such as Georgetown and Marquette from his list but keeps La Salle and Drexel, it only means one thing.
Location is a huge factor.
Rysheed Jordan, a 2013 point guard from Philly, has since cut both of those Philadelphia schools from his list. Nonetheless, their longevity as contenders for his services was a strong indication of his preference for staying close to home.
He attends Vaux Roberts High School in North Philadelphia, and plays for the AAU Philly Pride.
Temple has long been the favorite for Jordan's destination. He seems to attend the majority of Temple's home games and has strong ties to the Owls' coaching staff.
He lives within a very small proximity of Temple's campus and already carries the nickname, "Prince of North Philly." It's safe to say Jordan has plenty of reasons to take his talents to the newest members of the Big East.
Aside from Temple, Jordan currently lists three other schools, according to InsideMDSports.
Maryland is in second place for the Jordan sweepstakes. Villanova remains a legitimate potential landing spot. Kansas has also entered the race.
Rivals.com ranks the 6-foot-3 Jordan as the 12th best junior in high school basketball. He is also ranked as the third best point guard in his class.
Jordan had been aiming for a July deadline for his college decision to be made. Since Temple has not once fallen from the frontrunner title, all signs pointed toward the elite distributor selecting the Owls when he would have decided in under two months.
Now, Rysheed is thinking the whole process over.
According to InsideMDSports, a Maryland recruiting website, Jordan is not quite ready to make a decision yet.
“He was going to commit in July, but he’s really not ready for that yet," said Kamal Yard, the director of the Philly Pride AAU team. "He doesn’t entirely know what he wants to do. Does he want to stay close to home or does he want to [get away]? He hasn’t really decided yet, so he’ll probably wait a while,”
“It’s still Maryland and Temple at the top, and then you’ve got Villanova. Kansas is in there, too. It’s the same as before, pretty much. He’s a Philly guy and he’s got a really close relationship with his mother. He’s willing to go a few hours, but probably not too far. But you never know if that could change. Kids are so fickle.”
Jordan most likely would have chosen Temple had he chosen in July. Now that he is waiting until his senior season, ample time exists for Maryland to jump ahead of Temple.
Any college recruit desires to enter a winning environment, something that has recently existed at Temple and not Maryland.
With Maryland's outstanding recruiting class and development of current players, that's about to change.
If Jordan were to come to Maryland, his presence would create a deep and talented backcourt foursome with Seth Allen, Pe'Shon Howard, and Sam Cassell Jr.
Evaluators have consistently praised Jordan for being unselfish. He loves to dish the ball and will be able to do that efficiently with Evan Smotrycz, Nick Faust, and Jake Layman on the wings.
In addition, the Terps will have Charles Mitchell, Shaquille Cleare and most importantly, Alex Len. All three are productive forwards who will love to receive dump-downs from Rysheed Jordan.
Maryland's roster is built to succeed in 2013 when Jordan would be a freshman in college.
On the flip side, Temple's roster is on the decline. By 2013, the Owls will have lost their four best players from 2011-12 in Khalif Wyatt, Ramone Moore, Juan Fernandez and Michael Eric.
Temple is joining a power conference and will most likely struggle with their adjustment into stiffer competition. The Atlantic-10 has been strong, but the Big East is considered one of the top leagues in the entire country.
While Temple will be rebuilding and struggling to reach the upper half of the Big East in 2013, Maryland will have returned to the ACC's top tier.
Jordan is looking to succeed, and with the added decision-making time that he's taking, Maryland now has the opportunity to show Jordan that the Terps can succeed.
Temple seemed to be close to a lock for Jordan's services, but the circumstances have shifted.
Jordan has increased Maryland's chances by extending his decision window, and he may not even know it just yet.

Source: Terp Talk by Bruce
The first midfield of Drew Snider, John Haus and Mike Chanenchuk were terrific and played like warriors.
Snider played like a guy who wasn’t ready for his collegiate career to be over. The fifth-year senior scored two of his three goals in the fourth quarter to help the Terps erase an 8-6 deficit at the end of the third. But the goals were only part of the story as it is the “1″ in the stat line under the heading “GB” that really stands out. When Owen Blye’s shot with 1:29 left was turned away by Lehigh goalie Matthew Poillon (who stood on his head in this one, giving his team a chance to win) the ball was loose on the right side of the crease. Four Mountain Hawks had a crack at the groundball, but it was Snider, who knifed through the scrum and came up with it to retain possession for the Terps and eventually led to the final possession.
Comments—Drew Snider started excelling his Junior year around playoff time. There rarely have been wins in the past 2 years without scoring from Drew. In the MLL he is labeled as can’t miss due to his rep as purse offense. Look for Drew to step up big time on Saturday.
Chanenchuk has been on fire since going through a four-game goal-less streak and his effort on Sunday did nothing to cool him off. The redshirt sophomore had two assists, both coming on goals by Snider, including the first of his two goals in the fourth quarter, and a goal. That goal was exactly what we expected when Chanenchuk agreed to become a Terp. The original play looked to be going nowhere and he made a quick move down the right alley to get enough space for him to rip a shot around his defender and inside the left pipe where Poillon had no chance of stopping it.
Comments–The Hopkins defensive way is to rely on Pierce Bassett to stop the direct 12-15 yard shots. That might work with some of the Terps but it won’t work with Chanecnchuck. His shot seems as deadly as Grant Catalino’s. I’ll take my chances. Mike had a bit of a dry spell earlier in the year but he is back!!!!
Haus’ stat line isn’t one that would stand out to anyone, but stats often don’t tell the whole story. Haus was a threat the entire game and that eventually wore down the Lehigh defensive midfielders. Twice he broke through the Mountain Hawk defense and got off two great shots only to be victimized by equally great saves by Poillon. If you watch the replay the early slides Lehigh used in the first three quarters were not as quick to get there in the fourth and that could be because of the effort Haus showed throughout the games, wearing down Mountain Hawk defenders.
Comments—There never was a Haus who wasn’t a big time player. When Carolina released john’s father several years back, Maryland and dave Cottle received a true warrior. Now in his junior year, I really don’t believe the recent successes of Maryland would have occurred without #26. Unfortunately we lost his brother will to Duke. A run to the final four will include huge plays by John. This first midfield is special, even though you will hear much more about the opposition.

BREAKING NEWS: Ashton Pankey To Leave Maryland for Family Reasons

Ashton Pankey will leave the University of Maryland after the current semester due to family reasons, head basketball coach Mark Turgeon announced Tuesday. Pankey, a 6-foot-9 redshirt freshman forward from the Bronx, N.Y., told Turgeon he needed to find a school closer to home in order to aid his family. “My mom is the rock in my life and I promised her I would take care of her like she did for me,” Pankey said. “Therefore, I am choosing to put my family first and look for a school closer to home.
“I’m sad that I must leave the University of Maryland, as I have enjoyed my time here with my teammates and coaches who have been my second family. I would like to thank them for their support during this time. I’ve become a better person and player while at Maryland. “I thank my coach, assistant coaches and teammates, as well as the continued devotion of Maryland fans,” Pankey added. “Ashton was raised in a close-knit home; he and his mother are very close,” said Turgeon. “We support him in this difficult time. It was great to have Ashton as a part of our program; we appreciate the hard work that he put in academically as well as on the court.
