New York Giants rookie safety Cooper Taylor was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, a rare illness with the electrical pathways in the heart while in high school.
He had the condition corrected via surgery, which caused his heart to race and black out.
The Giants medical team feel confidant that issue is fixed and he's safe to play the game.
That's important because the team is trying to work out the safety position and this is a great opportunity for Taylor.
A fifth round pick, Cooper figures into the competition, but he first had to convince a NFL team he was healthy enough to play.
Cooper didn't know if he would even be able to play football, let alone live a normal life, but he has overcome the setback, and is eyeing competing for a position on the Giants.
He feels lucky to get a second chance, and looking to take full advantage.
"When it comes to heart conditions," he told Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, "it's ...

Clouds and rain in the forecast here in the Big Apple today. If you’re wondering what the Giants are up to, here it is. They will be at TPC for OTA sessions on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Scheduled OTAs (voluntary): May 22-23, May 29-31, June 3-7
Mandatory minicamp: June 11-13
Don’t expect WR Victor Cruz to be at TPC anytime soon. Although there have been reports that he and the Giants are close to contract agreement, Mike Florio of PFT reports things between the two are “moving slowly”:
Cruz, who has not yet signed a one-year, $2.879 million restricted free agency tender, has been staying away from the team’s offseason

New York Giants linebacker Aaron Curry believes he can be the impact player the Giants need at linebacker.
“I’m very optimistic about the future,” Curry said, via the New York Daily News.“I really believe I have the ability to be an impact linebacker on this defense. I feel like I can affect each play that I’m in the game.”
Currry explained why he’s had a hard time making an impact so far during his career.
“I wouldn’t say I was physically able to play,” Curry said. “I was being an athlete and compensating for movements and things, so it made it rough. There were some other things that were going on.”
Curry is looking to resurrect his career in New York.
“The goal is to be the best Aaron Curry that I’ve ever been,” he said. “I have a different mindset on life and football and in general, so I think I’ll handle the situation a lot better than I have before.”

The Giants General Manager Jerry Reese bolstered the offensive line with the 20131st round draft pick OT Justin Pugh to the right of OG Chris Snee. To the far left of recently repaired tough guy C David Baas, OT Will Beatty re-signed for 5 more years ($38.75 million). New York native and standout run blocker OG Kevin Boothe also re-signed for another year on the Giants O-line for the 2013 season.
In addition to reinforcing the O-line, Reece replaced TE Martellus Bennett (who opted for the Bears via free agency) with Oakland’s 2012 leading receiver TE Brandon Myers. Myers finished with 79 catches, 804 yards and 4 touchdowns last season in Oakland and was the primary downfield target of Raider QB Carson Palmer. Dallas Cowboys: LB Sean Lee
Lee has been a breakout defensive star for the Cowboys the past two seasons, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy. A wrist injury limited him after a raging hot start in 2011, and after another hot start in 2012 he injured a toe in Week 7 and missed the remainder of the season. The Cowboys' defense is different when Lee is on the field and at his instinctive, playmaking best, and it misses him terribly when he's not.

The Dallas Cowboys' signing of defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove on Thursday got buried under the at-long-last resolution of the Doug Free matter. But as Calvin Watkins writes on ESPNDallas.com, it says something about where the Cowboys are in terms of their defensive line. As Dallas transitions to a 4-3 front this year, there has been some concern raised about depth. The starting quartet of DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Jason Hatcher and Jay Ratliff appears very good, but should one of those guys get injured or need a rest, things get dicey behind them.

Newly acquired linebacker Aaron Curry has a lot to prove to himself, and the NFL.
He’s now in crop of ‘draft busts’ and he wants to remove his name from the list. Curry was widely believed to be the best linebacker available in the 2009 NFL Draft and was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks fourth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft.
He’s only had 5.5 sacks since and hasn’t shown the heart or instincts required to be an elite player. Curry wants to change that perception in the Big Apple, under the bright lights, he wants to reclaim his career and guide it in the right direction.
“I’m very optimistic about the future,” Curry said, via Ebenezer Samuel of the New York Daily News. “I really believe I have the ability to be an impact linebacker on this defense. I feel like I can affect each play that I’m in the game.”

He began his career entering into a losing situation in Seattle (they were coming off a 4-12 season in 2009) and then was shipped off to another franchise in dire straits: the Oakland Raiders, who have not had a winning season since 2002.

The Doug Free situation has finally reached its resolution. According to Calvin Watkins, Free has accepted a pay cut and will remain with the Dallas Cowboys in 2013. ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Free agreed to a 50 percent cut, which would reduce his 2013 salary from $7 million to $3.5 million and save the Cowboys room against this year's cap. Ed also reports that Free is now scheduled to be paid $3.5 million in each of the next two years, with only this year's salary guaranteed.

Newton is an interesting story. He is a 6-foot-4, 240-pound tight end from the University of Kentucky who spent most of his career at quarterback before losing his job and converting to tight end early in his senior season. Newton never
