Former Packers DB Charles Woodson
After another lengthy stint on the free-agent market, former Packers defensive back Charles Woodson has signed a one-year contract to return to the Oakland Raiders, according to the team’s official Twitter account.
Woodson was the No. 4 overall pick to the Raiders in the 1998 NFL Draft. He played eight years with Oakland but had no serious suitors when he became a free agent in 2005.
Late in the free-agent process, Woodson signed a seven-year contract to play in Green Bay where he would go on to play seven seasons. He was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and was a four-time All-Pro selection during his seven years with the Packers.
Versatility and instincts made Woodson a turnover machine at the peak of his career. His post-game speech, in which he urged the team to have “one mind, one goal, one purpose and one heart” after defeating the Chicago Bears in the 2010 NFC Championship Game, is referenced on the team’s rings for Super Bowl X...

The Green Bay Packers lost a promising rookie -- perhaps for the season -- on the first day of their organized team activities (OTAs), according to multiple reports. Offensive lineman J.C. Tretter, a fourth-round draft pick who was being trained at multiple positions, broke his ankle and tore ligaments during Monday's opening OTA. His agent believes he will miss six months.
Monday's practice was closed to the media but reporters noted that Tretter was not in attendance Tuesday.

For the past nine years, the only home Josh Sitton has known has been the right side of the offensive line.
That changed this offseason with Packers coach Mike McCarthy and his staff's decision to swap right tackle Bryan Bulaga and Sitton with left guard T.J. Lang and left tackle Marshall Newhouse in an effort to fortify a line that contributed to 51 sacks of Aaron Rodgers last season.

There's something to be said about taking an opportunity and running with it.
Sometimes it can be as simple as being in the right situation at exactly the right time, while other times it involves more knowledge and overall skill.
Nevertheless—no matter which way you spin it—success nearly always starts and can be defined by this one simple saying from Seneca:
"Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It was a successful few months for the Green Bay Packers' front office, locking in long-term deals with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and outside linebacker Clay Matthews. But one player whose contract the team hasn't addressed yet is Sam Shields, and the 25-year-old cornerback let his dissatisfaction be known when he decided not to show up for the Packers' offseason training activities.
"I wish Sam was here," coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday. "He's not here for his specific reasons that I'm sure if he wants to answer them, he can answer them. It's about the opportunity to compete and our secondary is very competitive.
"I wish he was here."
Shields was given a second-round tender as a restricted free agent in March that is worth 2.023 million for the 2013 season.
It may be a difficult battle for Shields to win in contract talks with the Packers. Working in Shields' favor is that he started eight games last season and intercepted three pas

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- One year after being released from prison, Johnny Jolly is one week away from continuing his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers.
As the Packers began their offseason training activities this week, Jolly was absent. But as Green Bay went through Tuesday's practice, Jolly sent a tweet to a Packers fan saying that he would rejoin the team on May 28.
Though coach Mike McCarthy did not confirm that date as being Jolly's arrival in Green Bay, the now-30-year-old defensive lineman will soon be competing on the field for the first time since January 2010.
"When Johnny's situation, his process is completed, when he gets up here, then I'll have more information for you," McCarthy said. "He is still going through the process."
Jolly was indefinitely suspended by the NFL in 2010 after being arrested multiple times. Jolly was first arrested in 2008 for possessing at least 200 grams of codeine. After the 2009 season, Jolly was arrested on another drug charge, which

Raider Nation is doing their best to woo Charles Woodson to come home.
Woodson is currently a free agent, making the rounds visiting potential NFL teams, but Raiders fans have done their best to convince the Pro Bowl defensive back that Oakland will always be his home. Woodson was drafted by the Raiders in 1999 and spent the first part of his career there before signing with the Green Bay Packers. A healthy Desmond Bishop is likely to be the biggest boost to the 2013 Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers drafted two running backs in the first four rounds of this year’s draft after many had been calling for the team to find more production in the run game. With the addition of draftees Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin, some would argue that each will end up playing a key role in the 2013 Packers’ storyline.
With Packers GM Ted Thompson having once again been very quiet in free agency, the draft was seemingly the team’s biggest chance to add to their existing roster. Those draft picks, along with a few undrafted free agents, have garnered a lot of attention. Actually, they have seen nearly all of it this off season, minus a few tiny contract situations that were recently ironed out.
Lost in the shuffle of all that is new, it’s what is “old” that I am anticipating will make the biggest difference when the smoke clears and the 2013 season is in the books.

I really thought that this year was going to be different. I thought that after all the bad luck with injuries that the Green Bay Packers had over the past few years (and in 2012 in particular), this was going to be the year when the breaks evened out and the team stayed unusually healthy for a full season. The read option that shredded the team’s defense last January scarred coach Mike McCarthy and defensive coordinator Dom Capers into changing the personnel to adapt to the growing trend.

This week, the NFL owners have gathered in Boston for their annual meetings. On the agenda were the issues of where to hold the next two Super Bowls to be awarded: Super Bowl L after the 2015 football season and Super Bowl LI which decides the NFL Champion for the 2016 season.
Miami, San Francisco, and Houston were all in the running but as the voting approached over the last few weeks, Miami's bid took a major hit when the Florida government did not give the Dolphins the necessary money for the stadium renovations. When that came to light, it became more or less a formality that San Francisco and Houston would get the bids they sought, but that has now been made official:
