A rare scholarship kicker at Virginia Tech, Cody Journell is repaying Frank Beamer's confidence

Frank Beamer doesn't give out scholarships to kickers often, but he felt Cody Journell was well worth the investment. Journell, a sophomore from Ripplemead, about 30 minutes from Blacksburg, is the Hokies' first kicker to sign a national letter of intent since Shayne Graham in 1996. (Technically Nic Schmitt signed one in 2002, but he would only punt at Tech).
