An explanation of how Logan Thomas' game-winning touchdown run happened

I came home after Virginia Tech’s wildly entertaining 38-35 shootout win over Miami on Saturday and immediately flipped on the DVR. Norm Wood of the Newport News Daily Press and I were curious to see exactly how Logan Thomas’ game-winning 19-yard touchdown pass unfolded.
Quarterbacks coach and play caller Mike O’Cain didn’t attend media interviews after the game, so we couldn’t ask him what he saw in Miami’s defense that made him decide to change that fourth-and-1 play from a short pass to a Thomas keeper.
This much remains obvious: The play unfolded perfectly and was fitting of Thomas’ almost flawless day.
