Right-hander Jered Weaver retired the first 14 batters he faced Tuesday night and took a shutout into the seventh inning as the Angels beat the Texas Rangers 6-2.
The Angels have now won four of their past five games against the Rangers (all in the past two weeks). The back-to-back wins in Texas to start this week’s four-game series allowed the Angels to move within three games of the first-place Rangers, the closest they have been since June 14.
Albert Pujols and Mike Trout supplied the offense to support Weaver.
Pujols had home runs in the fourth and sixth innings off Rangers starter Derek Holland. It was the first multi-homer game for Pujols as an Angel — but the 43rd of his career. He now has 465 career home
