Of the 258 yards Clemson gained Saturday in its 23-3 win at Virginia Tech, 133 came on five big plays. The Hokies gave up five plays that covered 20 or more yards, including both second-half touchdowns – a 32-yard pass from quarterback Tajh Boyd to tight end Dwayne Allen and a 31-yard run by tailback Mike Bellamy.
“You take (a few) plays out of it, and those guys got about a third of the total offense that they’d been running against other people,” Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster said. “I think we should have held them to 10 points when it was all said and done, but that’s neither here nor there. That’s behind us now.”
Tech has allowed 16 plays of 20 or more yards, and 15 of those have been passes.
