One of the Falcons stated goals this off-season was to add toughness and resume control of the line of scrimmage. As Michael Aprile detailed in his Offensive Line report, the pick of Jake Matthews along with the signing of Jon Asomoah signaled their commitment to keep the offensive side of the line well protected, but what about the defensive side of the line?

Did the Falcons upgrade their pass rush?
Will they do better against the run?
Well, it depends.
The Falcons certainly added some much needed mass to the center of the DL with the signing of massive tackle Paul Soliai. Soliai is a space-eater who will play tackle in a 4-3 set and nose tackle in a 3-4. Another big signing (figuratively and literally) was Defensive End Tyson Jackson who left the Chiefs to come back South. The former LSU stud comes to the Birds as a qualified run-stopper, but with no reputation for being able to get to the quarterback.
That role will fall to veteran Osi Umenyiora, who will see time mostly on passing down
