This was survival mode for Virginia Tech.

The Hokies gave their fans a scare and the most disappointing performance since the loss to Clemson, but because Duke made more mistakes, Virginia Tech was able to squeak out the win. On paper, Virginia Tech is still the team to beat in the Coastal Division. But anyone who watched this game knows the vulnerabilities that exist, and that anything can happen in the next two games against Georgia Tech and North Carolina.
As for Duke, one of the most glaring stat lines from the box score is the 1-of-4 field goals. Those are points Duke is going to be aching to have in retrospect. And the four turnovers? Can't beat a top 25 team like that. Virginia Tech had nine penalties and two turnovers, but Duke couldn't get it done in the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils continue to torture their fans with close-but-not-quite performances.
Virginia Tech's lead on the Coastal Division race? Feels about as secure as its lead over Duke in the fourth quarter.
