The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, given annually to college football's best quarterback, has released its preseason watch list, and four players from the Big 12 made the cut on the 38-man list.
Those are pretty clearly the four quarterbacks in the Big 12 who have established themselves as the top passers in the league. The O'Brien Award folks were having none of the possible upside of quarterbacks at Texas Tech or Missouri.
Griffin and Jones were two of the 16 semifinalists for last year's award.
Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy won two of the last three awards. Auburn's Cam Newton took home the trophy last year.
Oklahoma's three award-winners are the most in the Big 12, but BYU has the most of any program, with four. Texas has had two winners.
- Robert Griffin III, Baylor
- Landry Jones, Oklahoma
- Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M
- Brandon Weeden, Oklahoma State
