The New York Giants' short-handed defense performed about as well as could be expected. Their typically potent offense sputtered. The Giants didn't score after halftime Sunday in a 28-14 season-opening loss to the Washington Redskins that had coach Tom Coughlin literally throwing his hands in the air.
