Giants seek power boost by adding Pence
The Giants sent three players to the Phillies for Pence just ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline: top catching prospect Tommy Joseph, outfielder Nate Schierholtz and Class A pitcher Seth Rosin, who is not considered a high-level prospect.
The Phillies also will send the Giants $500,000 to cover part of the roughly $3.8 million left on Pence's 2012 contract.
Manager Bruce Bochy said Pence will bat fifth, behind Posey, until Pablo Sandoval returns from the disabled list.
Though the Giants considered dealing for Pence as far back as last summer, general manager Brian Sabean acknowledged that the team's current five-game losing streak, particularly the three-game sweep at the hands of the
