Irene maintains speed, approaches Norfolk, Va.

MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say Hurricane Irene is maintaining its 80 mph speed and has re-emerged over the Atlantic Ocean to about 35 miles southeast of Norfolk, Va.
Irene's sustained winds remain at hurricane strength as the bulk of the powerful storm passes over the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
The National Weather Service said Saturday evening that the storm was moving north-northeast at 16 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph and higher gusts.
