Jarell Eddie looking forward to moving past a rocky freshman season

There is no question about Jarell Eddie’s talent. The Virginia Tech sophomore wing player is the third-highest rated recruit ever landed by coach Seth Greenberg. Rivals.com rated Eddie the No. 70 overall recruit in the Class of 2010 and the No. 14 small forward. His other scholarship offers included a late pitch from Kentucky.
But Eddie had a rocky freshman year in Blacksburg. He played just one minute in a Jan. 25 loss at Georgia Tech – and freshman guard Ty Garland didn’t play at all – because Greenberg said they failed to “fulfill academic commitments.” Less than a month later, after Tech’s Feb. 15 home win over Maryland, Eddie was arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
