Jones-Drew’s Misplaced Optimism

Maurice Jones-Drew continues to make a splash by threatening to not make a splash in 2012. The running back wants a new contract, he wants to play for the Jaguars, and until he gets what he wants he is going to sit at home and not talk about it.
General Manager Gene Smith said the team expects Jones-Drew to fulfill his contract – two more years and $9 million. Smith had a hard line stance almost as strong as Spielman’s in Minnesota when wide receiver Percy Harvin left camp for one day. Smith doesn’t have the same strict “we negotiate with core players when they have one year left” approach as Spielman, but he made himself clear when he said Jones-Drew wouldn’t be getting what he wanted.
