Before Saturday’s 23-3 loss to Clemson, Beamer had only lost his conference opener once – 1995, when the Hokies fell to Boston College in the first game of the season. They lost the next week to Cincinnati, but rebounded with 10 straight wins, including the Sugar Bowl.
If these Hokies are going to do anything similar to that (or last season’s 11-game winning streak and ACC title after an 0-2 start), they are going to need solid – though certainly not spectacular – play from first-year starting quarterback Logan Thomas.
