Punter recognized on preseason watch list

When junior kicker Ron Doherty lines up for snaps this season he’ll have a few extra keen eyes looking on. The junior was selected by the Augusta Sports Council for the Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List on July 11.

Doherty joins 24 other kickers vying for the award given annually to college football’s best punter.

Last season the Klein, Texas, native pinned Jayhawk opponents behind their own 20-yard line 15 times, and finished 27th in the country with a 42.8-yard punt average.

The list of 25 candidates will be narrowed down to 10, and then again to three, finalists
