On May 8th, 2006 the Oshawa Generals used the second pick in the OHL draft to select 16 year old defenseman Michael Del Zotto.
In midget hockey heading into the draft Del Zotto, on a team with Steven Stamkos, put up 30 goals and 90 assists along with 90 penalty minutes.
The Oshawa Generals GM said of Del Zotto before the draft that he is “a strong skater with great vision who’s calm with the puck, makes the first pass, can shoot and has a nasty streak when he needs it. In other words, he’s exactly what the Generals have been lacking and will need if they hope to turn the corner.
