Suter talks an important step

Defenseman Ryan Suter and the Predators talked yesterday — and they will continue to talk in the upcoming week. By all accounts the discussions were positive.

The Predators and Suter did not come to terms on a contract, but the fact that they are talking should be considered a good sign for Nashville. Suter could have just said ‘no’ and then Nashville would be looking to trade his rights to another team, likely for a draft pick.

From my understanding the timing of these talks had nothing to do with Nicklas Lidstrom’s retirement
